Chapter 106 - Royal Scheme

Down below—

The Abyss moved.

Not naturally.

Not chaotically.

It gathered.

Beasts of all sizes and power levels drifted toward the same point like they were being pulled by an unseen force. Smaller creatures crawled over jagged terrain, mid-tier predators stalked in uneasy silence, and even the larger, more territorial beasts abandoned their domains without resistance.

They didn't fight each other.

Didn't hunt.

Didn't stray.

They gathered.

Like livestock being herded.

And behind them—

Stood the ones doing the herding.

Three figures.

Human in shape.

Not in presence.

The first male leaned lazily against a warped stone outcrop, one hand resting against his jaw like he was already bored. His hair was a deep ash-gray, falling loosely over sharp, narrow eyes that glowed faintly with a sickly violet hue. His skin was pale—too pale—and faint cracks of dark energy pulsed beneath it like something alive was trying to break through.

"…They're slower than I expected," he said, voice light, almost amused.

The second male scoffed.

"Or you're just impatient, Veyr."

Unlike the first, he stood upright, arms crossed, his posture rigid and controlled. His hair was pitch black, tied loosely behind his head, but his eyes—his eyes burned with a deep crimson glow that didn't waver. His presence was heavier. Sharper. Like a blade constantly pressed against the throat of the world around him.

Veyr smirked without looking at him. "Still talking like you're in charge, Kaelith?"

Kaelith's gaze hardened slightly.

"I don't need to talk like it."

The air between them tightened.

Subtle.

But real.

And then—

A soft voice cut through it.

"…You're both being loud."

They went silent instantly.

The female stepped forward slightly.

Her presence was… different.

Not heavier.

Not sharper.

Just deeper.

Her hair flowed like liquid silver, faint streaks of crimson running through it like veins. Her eyes were calm—too calm—an unnatural shade of deep blue that seemed to reflect nothing. Her skin held a faint glow, almost like moonlight, but the shadows around her bent subtly, as if they belonged to her.

She didn't raise her voice.

Didn't need to.

"…We're not here to argue."

Veyr straightened slightly, the lazy amusement in his expression sharpening into something more focused.

"…Of course, Seraphel."

Kaelith didn't speak.

But the tension in his posture eased.

Only slightly.

Seraphel's gaze drifted upward.

Toward Blood Peak.

Toward the ascending figures.

"…So these are the ones."

No excitement.

No curiosity.

Just observation.

Kaelith followed her gaze. "…The selected candidates."

Veyr chuckled softly. "Selected, guided, pushed… however you want to put it."

A pause.

"…They climbed faster than expected."

Seraphel's eyes narrowed slightly.

"…Not all of them."

Her gaze lingered on a specific point along the mountain.

Far above.

"…But some are… interesting."

Veyr tilted his head slightly. "You've been watching that one too?"

Kaelith's eyes flickered once.

"…The one that kept getting pushed?"

Seraphel didn't answer immediately.

Then—

"…Yes."

Silence followed.

Because they all understood what that meant.

Veyr's smirk widened.

"…So the 'hunt' wasn't just for thinning numbers."

Kaelith's voice was colder.

"…It was selection."

Seraphel nodded faintly.

"…Refinement."

Her gaze shifted again.

This time—

To the mass of gathered beasts below.

"…And now…"

The ground trembled slightly.

Not from the creatures.

From something deeper.

"…We test the result."

Veyr pushed himself off the rock, stretching slightly like he was finally interested.

"…Finally."

Kaelith stepped forward, his presence flaring slightly as his crimson gaze swept across the gathered horde.

"…The first layer's awakeners."

A pause.

"…Pathetic."

Seraphel didn't agree.

Didn't disagree.

"…Some will break."

Her voice was calm.

Certain.

"…Some will die."

Another pause.

"…And a few…"

Her eyes lifted again.

Toward the higher steps.

Toward the ones still climbing.

"…Will be worth taking."

Veyr chuckled. "…Taking?"

Kaelith's lips curved slightly.

"…Now that's the real reason we're here."

Silence stretched for a moment.

Then—

Seraphel turned.

"…Begin."

No raised voice.

No dramatic motion.

Just a single word.

And the Abyss obeyed.

The gathered beasts stirred.

Then—

They moved.

Not aimlessly.

Not wildly.

They surged forward.

Toward the base of Blood Peak.

Toward the ascending awakeners.

A controlled tide of monsters.

And behind them—

The three royals watched.

Not rushing.

Not engaging.

Not yet.

Because this—

Was only the first wave.

And far above—

Unaware or not—

The climb continued.

Step by step.

Toward the peak.

Toward judgment.

And now—

Toward war.
