My breath was still ripping out of my throat in ragged, uneven gasps, my palms tightening against my chest to keep my heart from exploding.
The taste of her tears coupled with sweet taste of her lips still burned against my lips, making my wolf pace around in the deepest part of my mind.
''What are you—''
''Shut up, Max! I'm trying to think!'' I snapped at me, interrupting his next words as the word I had said to Vivienne kept replaying in my head over and over and over again.
A mistake.
My heart hammered frantically in my chest.

The sudden calling of my name accompanied with the clearing of throat made me flinch.
My head snapped up, my hand instantly dropping from my chest and my back and face straightening.
''Cassian?'' My voice was barely above a whisper as I eyed him from head to toe.
He stood a few feet away from me, his dark brow pinched together in a furrow, his jaws locked tight as he assessed me.
