Chapter 70 – Yin–Yang Seal
Three months later, within the borders of the Land of Hot Water.
Inside a narrow mountain cave, Kakashi, Shisui, Ryuya, and Guy each leaned silently against the rock walls, resting without a word.
All of them were striving to recover as much as possible.
Since accepting the Third Hokage's mission, Konoha's Anbu Squad Eleven had been operating behind the battle lines between Konoha and Kumogakure, active in the Land of Hot Water, the Land of Frost, and surrounding regions. From time to time, they struck at Kumo's logistical supply lines.
After more than half a year of effort, Squad Eleven had achieved remarkable results. No fewer than eight Kumogakure supply depots and grain convoys had been destroyed—either directly or indirectly—by the four of them.
Because of this, even Yugito Nii, the Two-Tails' jinchūriki of Kumogakure, had personally led a guard unit in pursuit of Squad Eleven. Yet each time, the four managed to escape.
Now, across the shinobi world, the four members of Konoha's Anbu Squad Eleven had gained considerable notoriety.
Three months ago, after the fifth supply convoy was intercepted by Squad Eleven, Kumogakure began a relentless manhunt for Ryuya and the others.
At the same time, Kumo publicly revealed the identities of Squad Eleven.
In the underground black market, all four members were placed on the bounty list—and the prices were far from low.
Among them, Kakashi and Shisui were the most famous, both recognized as prodigies of Konoha.
However, since Shisui hailed from the Uchiha clan—and considering the overwhelming power of the Uchiha, Konoha's foremost noble clan—most bounty hunters did not dare provoke him. As a result, his bounty was slightly lower than Kakashi's.
Meanwhile, Might Guy, with the overwhelming explosive power he displayed after opening the Sixth Gate of the Eight Gates—the Gate of View—had carved out his own reputation in several battles, earning the title: Konoha's Blue Beast.
Of the four, only Ryuya appeared comparatively "ordinary." Although the Akimichi clan's secret techniques were formidable, they were clearly a notch below the other three in outward display.
Yet within Squad Eleven, Kakashi, Shisui, and Guy never underestimated Ryuya in the slightest.
After nearly half a year together, they knew full well that Ryuya's taijutsu and ninjutsu were both powerful. Coupled with his abnormal memory and intelligence analysis abilities, he was an indispensable member of the team.
Moreover, all three were aware that Ryuya possessed a powerful summoning beast.
With powerhouses like Kakashi, Shisui, and Guy in the squad, Ryuya rarely had the chance to fight at full strength.
Had he been placed in a weaker squad with more opportunities to act, Ryuya's name might have long since resounded throughout the shinobi world.
"A new ninjutsu has been generated. Please assign it a name."
Leaning against the cave wall with his eyes closed in feigned rest, Ryuya suddenly heard the pleasant notification of the biochip in his mind.
A faint smile immediately appeared on his face.
The imitation version of the Yin Seal he had envisioned was finally complete.
"Yin–Yang Seal."
Without hesitation, Ryuya gave it a name.
"Ninjutsu successfully named. Transmitting information."
As the prompt faded, a flood of data poured into his mind.
This was a reverse-engineered sealing technique derived from the effects of the Yin Seal. Its purpose was to increase the body's chakra storage capacity.
Ever since returning to Konoha from the Land of Rice Fields, Ryuya had devoted the biochip's full computational power to researching this imitation Yin Seal.
After more than half a year of analysis and development, the concept had finally become reality.
"I'm going out for a bit."
Suppressing the excitement in his heart, Ryuya stood up, informed the others briefly, and quickly left the cave.
Inside, the remaining three wore different expressions.
Guy looked confused.
Kakashi appeared thoughtful.
Shisui's eyes flickered with a subtle gleam.
In that fleeting moment earlier, Shisui had sensed a noticeable fluctuation in both Ryuya's chakra and emotional state.
Whoosh—
Under the cover of night, Ryuya leapt swiftly through the treetops, soon arriving in a dense forest far from the cave.
Standing in the secluded woods, he exhaled slowly and began forming hand seals at high speed.
As the sequence changed, a black formula about half a meter wide gradually materialized in the air.
When the final seal was completed, Ryuya pressed his right hand lightly against his body. The black formula instantly sank into him and disappeared.
At the same time, he vaguely sensed a space forming within his body—like a rotating Taijitu of black and white.
The moment his chakra entered this space, it was pulled apart by two opposing forces. The physical energy flowed into the white domain, while the spiritual energy entered the black domain.
The two energies were separated, unable to merge.
After carefully inspecting the condition within his body, Ryuya could no longer suppress his smile.
With the successful development of the Yin–Yang Seal, his chakra—previously stalled due to bodily limitations—could now increase dramatically once again.
This also cleared the path for his future study of Senjutsu.
Over the next hour, Ryuya devoured large amounts of rations stored within his sealing scroll. Using the Sealing Conversion Method, he transformed the nutrients into chakra and stored it within the Yin–Yang Seal.
After an hour, most of his food reserves had been consumed, and roughly one-third of the Yin–Yang Seal's storage capacity was filled.
He couldn't afford to eat all his emergency supplies, so the remaining space would have to be filled gradually over time.
According to the biochip's calculations, the newly developed Yin–Yang Seal could store up to five times his original chakra capacity.
Such an enormous chakra reserve would already place him among the upper tier of shinobi in the world.
The only drawback was that once the Yin–Yang Seal was released, all stored chakra would be unleashed at once. While this allowed for explosive short-term combat power, it lacked fine control and sustained endurance.
Improving this flaw would be his next optimization goal.
Satisfied after his tests, Ryuya returned to the cave.
But as he approached, he paused slightly.
Within his sensory range, two unfamiliar chakra signatures had appeared inside.
Entering the cave and seeing the two strangers, Ryuya's brows furrowed tightly.
The two newcomers were also dressed as Konoha Anbu.
One wore a mask, a black cloak, and dark sunglasses—someone Ryuya could recognize at a glance from memory.
Aburame Ryūma.
Clearly, both of them were Root operatives.
Toward this organization buried in Konoha's shadows, Ryuya had always harbored deep hostility and vigilance.
No matter the time or place, he could never appreciate Danzō's methods.
