Chapter 155: The Moon Goddess and
Sheepstealer
The Vale, Mountains of the Moon
"Dragon King Aegon! This is the legendary Blood Sacrifice Valley. This is where the coming-of-age ceremony of our Burned Men tribe takes place. Back then, we were the strongest force in the entire Mountains of the Moon. If not for the Redsmith tribe, we would have unified these mountains long ago."
Before a mist-covered valley, Timett—now dressed in gleaming weapons and armor—smiled as he pointed the way for Aegon. Behind him, countless tribesmen warriors, equally equipped from head to toe, followed with excited expressions.
"Alright, we're heading in. Didn't you say you were gathering more men? Why are you still here?"
"Dragon King Aegon! We will wait for you here. I have already sent scouts to urge those fellows along. We will definitely gather an army of five thousand men for you."
Timett's voice carried complete confidence. Although he still did not understand exactly what Aegon intended to do here, Aegon's miraculous abilities had utterly won him over. In Timett's eyes, Aegon was now practically a god, so he had no concerns regarding Aegon's safety within Blood Sacrifice Valley.
"Dragon King Aegon! Ever since those idiots from the Redsmith tribe summoned the Moon Goddess, our ancestors never saw the Fire Witch and her dragon again. If you can awaken her..."
"She is probably long dead, and the dragon likely died alongside her. Otherwise, you little fellows wouldn't even be enough to fill its stomach."
Jeyne Arryn's words immediately caused Timett's enthusiasm to plummet. He had heard from the tribal elders that the Burned Men had once been the most powerful force in the Mountains of the Moon. Under the Fire Witch's protection, their influence had once spread throughout the entire High Road region.
"Then remain here. We're going inside. Come on, Jeyne Arryn!"
Leaving behind those words, Aegon led Jeyne Arryn and the others into the place known as Blood Sacrifice Valley. According to Timett, this place had been cursed by the Moon Goddess.
Many tribesmen had entered the valley and never returned. To prevent more people from dying here, the elders described it as a land inhabited by demons.
"Caw! Caw! Caw!"
As Aegon and his group stepped inside, the ravens perched on the giant trees at the entrance of Blood Sacrifice Valley began cawing noisily, as if trying to drive them away.
"Awooo..."
As Aegon and the others ventured deeper, the howls of wild wolves echoed from the depths of the valley. Because no one had disturbed it for so many years, the forest here had grown into an incredibly dense woodland.
"Huh! I can't seem to Skinchange here. Jeyne Arryn, what about you?"
After entering the valley, Aegon instinctively attempted to Skinchange into nearby animals, but as his consciousness expanded outward, it felt as though it had struck some invisible barrier.
"Same here. Some force seems to be interfering with me. I can't use Blood Magic either. This is truly incredible. Is that Moon Goddess really this powerful?"
"I don't know. Let's go further in and see."
After hearing Jeyne Arryn's answer, Aegon continued leading everyone forward.
Step, step...
Years of fallen leaves had accumulated here, turning the ground soft like a carpet. The sensation of stagnant dampness filling their nostrils left everyone feeling uncomfortable.
At that moment, Dark Sister suddenly appeared in Aegon's hand. After a series of twists and transformations, Dark Sister shifted into its scepter form.
Boom!
"Whimper..."
As a fireball suddenly appeared, a forest wolf the size of a bear was struck directly. Strangely, after being hit by the attack, the wolf merely whimpered before fleeing.
"What was that thing?"
"I don't know. A wolf, perhaps? But it doesn't look like Dragon King Aegon's Ghost!"
After seeing the creature, Frodo and the others spoke in low voices. They had already entered a state of high alert, waiting for enemies to emerge.
"Awooo..."
At that moment, terrifying wolf howls suddenly erupted from the distant forest.
The sound was low and drawn out, as if countless wolf packs were howling beneath the night sky at once. Their cries echoed through the silent valley, sending an indescribable chill through everyone.
"Prepare defensive positions!"
Frodo's voice rang out like the beating of war drums. Following his command, the Paladins immediately drew their weapons and gathered around him.
Very quickly, the Paladins accompanying Aegon clustered together and formed a solid defensive formation.
At the center, Aegon and Jeyne Arryn were firmly protected. The shields carried on the Paladins' backs were unslung and arranged into an impenetrable wall.
"Awooo..."
As the wolf howls drew closer, battle fever surged within every Paladin. Their eyes shone with determination, their grips tightened around their weapons, and everyone prepared themselves for the coming fight.
Soon, forest wolves the size of calves appeared before them. In the center of the pack stood a giant gray wolf staring fixedly toward Aegon's position. Burn marks covered its fur; it seemed to be the same one Aegon had attacked earlier.
The wolves shifted through the distant forest, their eyes glowing with green light. Amid the mist-covered landscape, they resembled stars in the night sky—except those stars carried hatred and bloodlust.
"Awooo..."
Suddenly, another howl shattered the silence. Immediately afterward, the wolf pack burst from the woods like a black torrent, charging directly toward the formation Frodo had organized.
Their claws carved deep furrows into the ground, their eyes glimmered with cold light, and their mouths opened wide to reveal razor-sharp fangs.
The Paladins gripped their shields tightly, their expressions steady and fearless.
Since Frodo had not yet received Aegon's order to attack, he could only shout loudly:
"Hold the line! Do not fear! We are unbreakable!"
Boom!
Crack!
Screech!
"Whimper..."
The wolf pack soon slammed into the front of the formation. They bit frantically at the shields, attempting to tear open even the smallest gap. Sounds of impact, scraping, and growling merged together, forming a savage battle hymn.
Although the wolves attacked with desperation, the Paladins' line remained unmoving like a mountain. Not even the slightest tremor appeared.
Their shields glowed beneath the sunlight with a golden radiance, resembling an unbreakable wall of light. Whenever a wolf leaped forward, a soldier struck with a longsword, while Aegon and Jeyne Arryn launched magic from the center.
The assault continued for some time, but the Paladins' line remained firm. Gradually, the wolves began to tire and their attacks weakened.
"Break them!"
Seeing the opportunity, Aegon immediately issued the order. Upon hearing his command, Frodo and the others charged out at once.
Squelch!
Frodo swung his longsword through the air in a deadly arc. Wielding his steel greatsword, he split a forest wolf in half with a single strike.
The other Paladins also rushed forward after hearing Aegon's command. For a time, the forest wolves seemed to have thrown themselves into a meat grinder as Frodo and the others massacred them with terrifying efficiency.
"Whimper..."
Witnessing Frodo and his men's overwhelming power, the remaining forest wolves whimpered and fled. The giant wolf monster also retreated with low growls.
"Follow them!"
After hurling another fireball that incinerated one of the wolves, Aegon issued his order.
Beside him, Jeyne Arryn also cut down a charging forest wolf with her blade. She used the silver sword Aegon had given her; in Jeyne Arryn's opinion, this weapon was exceptionally sharp and easy to wield.
The suddenly appearing wolf pack had done little besides waste some of Aegon's time. These forest wolves could not be tainted by the power of the Magic Stone, which Aegon found somewhat strange.
After passing through the dense forest, Aegon and the others finally reached the center of the valley. Here, the trees were much shorter than those in the surrounding area.
There were traces of human activity scattered around the ground. Eventually, Aegon discovered a place called the Stone Platform, where an enormous dragon skeleton appeared before everyone's eyes.
Beside the giant dragon skeleton, they also discovered a human skeleton. Time had reduced the clothing on the body to dust, but Aegon noticed a necklace hanging around its neck.
"Valyrian steel!?"
Seeing the distinctive rippled pattern, Aegon immediately identified the material.
"To my beloved Nettles!"
After reading the inscription on the necklace, Aegon seemed to have guessed the identity of the skeleton's owner.
"Watch out!"
At that moment, Jeyne Arryn's warning suddenly rang out. Immediately afterward, Aegon felt a gust of wind carrying a foul and fishy odor.
"Grrrr..."
A terrifyingly fast figure suddenly lunged out from beside the skeleton. Sensing its hostile intent, Aegon immediately threw a punch toward the shadow.
Thud!
"Whimper..."
After being struck, the figure whimpered and retreated. Aegon shook his slightly aching hand.
He could not help feeling somewhat surprised. This creature had actually managed to withstand a punch from his monstrous strength.
