Chapter 59: The True Form of the Faceless Man
King's Landing, Ruins of the Dragonpit
"Thud, thud, thud..."
Deep within the gloomy ruins of the Dragonpit, the sound of heavy objects striking the ground echoed through the space.
Jaqen H'ghar appeared to be in a very sorry state. The Undead Warriors summoned by Jon were relentlessly attacking him from three different directions.
If not for Jaqen H'ghar's exceptionally powerful physical body, he likely would have been killed long ago. Unsure of the Undead Warriors' true nature, Jaqen H'ghar hadn't dared to counterattack.
Had he known their secret, he probably would have been fuming with rage. These Undead Warriors were incredibly fragile; as soon as their armor was struck, they would vanish instantly.
"If you keep this up, you're very likely to die!"
Jon found Jaqen H'ghar's constant dodging somewhat amusing. At first glance, the Undead Warriors were indeed intimidating, but once their weakness was found, they were nothing more than paper tigers.
"A man... ah..."
Because the Undead Warriors' attacks were so swift and fierce, Jaqen H'ghar couldn't afford a moment's distraction. After dodging several times in succession, he failed to move in time and was slashed on the left arm by one of the Undead Warriors.
"Hiss, hiss..."
As the wound opened, wisps of black gas began to seep out. Noticing this, Jaqen quickly covered the wound with his right hand.
"The boy plays with fire. The wrath of the many-faced god... huff, huff... cough, cough..."
The attacks of the Undead Warriors, imbued with potent death energy, seemed to trigger some terrifying presence within Jaqen's body. Countless plumes of black gas surged from the wound like a flood breaking through a dam.
In a short time, Jaqen transformed into a horrifying entity resembling a giant slime. He—or rather, it—was covered in a black, ink-like fluid of energy.
The monster stood about three meters tall, looking like a lump of poorly kneaded dough. Various protrusions emerged all over its body, and from time to time, things resembling human faces would surface upon it.
"Hiss, hiss..."
At this moment, all those faces stared at Jon and his Undead Warriors with expressions of extreme rage, as if expressing displeasure at Jon's offensive behavior.
"Plop, plop, plop..."
"Hiss, hiss, hiss..."
With a twist of its body, the creature projected a large amount of jelly-like liquid. When this liquid hit the Undead Warriors, it punched holes through their armor like a hornet's nest.
Furthermore, this jelly-like liquid was terrifying, seemingly containing a substance akin to sulfuric acid.
After the Undead Warriors vanished, their armor quickly turned into foul-smelling iron plates under the effect of the liquid.
The creature seemed to daze for a moment upon seeing how easily the Undead Warriors were defeated, but soon, an even more furious roar echoed through the ruins.
"Hahaha, fun, isn't it? There's even more fun to come!"
Seeing the opponent preparing to attack again, Jon channeled the power of the Magic Stone within his body.
Soon, black liquid-like substances spread out from around Jon, forming one pillar after another in front of him.
They began to slowly transform into human-like shapes. Much of the dust and debris on the floor of the Dragonpit consisted of the remains of corpses from the era of the "Great Spring Sickness."
After being sealed for over a century, the souls of those terrifying creatures, along with their remains, were summoned by Jon in a very bizarre state.
"Hiss, hiss..."
Accompanied by the sound of corroding objects and the hissing of strange creatures, several giant spiders, about the height of a man, appeared around Jon.
At first glance, their appearance was somewhat similar to the ice spiders beyond The Wall, but these two types of monsters belonged to entirely different systems.
The summoned Giant Poison Spiders came from a game Jon enjoyed playing back on Blue Star. They were also a type of magical beast, with combat power and defense significantly higher than that of the Mo Sha Hounds.
If the Mo Sha Hounds were compared to scouts, then the Giant Poison Spiders were heavy cavalry. These creatures had a skeletal structure over their entire bodies, and their massive spider claws could instantly pierce an enemy's armor.
Once these creatures evolved into Magic Poison Spiders, their claws would be coated in toxins. As long as an enemy was wounded, the toxin would continuously deal damage to them.
Jon summoned a total of five Giant Poison Spiders this time. Although the first one summoned was attacked by the monster Jaqen had transformed into, its thick bone armor managed to withstand the acid's corrosion.
Even though this Giant Poison Spider had half its head and half its body corroded away, the power of the Magic Stone kept it alive and well.
While its organs and parts continued to fall off as it moved, its fierce nature had been provoked by the attack.
"Boom... Crack..."
Under Jon's command, the Giant Poison Spiders surrounded the terrifying slime monster from all sides, while the monster charged rapidly toward the injured Giant Poison Spider.
"Gurgle... Hiss..."
Amidst a series of nauseating squelching sounds, the slime monster forced itself into the Giant Poison Spider's wound. After suffering this horrific attack, the Giant Poison Spider could only roll helplessly on the ground before falling silent a moment later.
Realizing that this Giant Poison Spider might be controlled by the enemy, Jon quickly ordered the remaining four Giant Poison Spiders to attack.
"Hiss, hiss..."
The Giant Poison Spider that had just died quickly scrambled back up from the ground and launched an attack on its own kind charging toward it.
It seemed that the slime monster Jaqen had become could only use this possession technique once, or perhaps there were other limitations. Otherwise, this single move would have been enough to instantly kill all the Giant Poison Spiders under Jon's command.
The slime monster's combat power seemed very high; as soon as it took control of the Giant Poison Spider, it could effectively use the spider's strength to deal with Jon's remaining four spiders.
Furthermore, since it didn't need to worry about the body's exhaustion or damage, it was even more fearless in its attacks.
Seeing that ganging up on it wasn't working, Jon immediately ordered the Giant Poison Spiders to adopt a suicidal fighting style. Two of the spiders fearlessly bit onto the one controlled by the slime monster.
The already battered Giant Poison Spider had two of its claws snapped off during the struggle. However, it desperately managed to plunge its remaining two claws into the heads of the two attacking spiders.
But Jon's other two Giant Poison Spiders had already closed in. Thus, the five spiders became entangled together, with Jon's two surviving spiders biting and tearing desperately.
"Hiss, hiss..."
Before long, a portion of the slime monster Jaqen H'ghar had transformed into flowed out like blood. Although some parts still showed "vitality," they seemed to have lost their initial ferocity.
Seeing that the timing was right, Jon quickly approached the slime monster. As Jon drew near, the terrifying creature suddenly lunged.
"Hiss, hiss..."
The soft-looking black substance suddenly expanded, much like Venom from Blue Star's movies. It lunged at Jon like a giant net, so fast that even the Giant Poison Spiders that had subdued it couldn't react in time.
"Hum, hum, hum..."
Just as the slime monster was about to reach Jon, a transparent crystal about the size of an ostrich egg appeared in his hand.
As the slime monster drew close, the crystal instantly erupted with a dazzling light.
"Hiss, hiss, hiss..."
Under the radiance of that golden light, the net-like slime monster seemed to have crashed into a spider web. It hissed, trying to pull away, but the golden light refused to let it escape.
The two forces grappled in the air. Although the slime monster exerted all its strength, its resistance was futile.
As the golden light continued to expand, the slime monster's body was compressed into the crystal bit by bit. Finally, after nearly a minute, the now-blackened crystal fell back into Jon's hand.
"Sealing Stone (Sealed State). Sealed Creature: A strange life form codenamed the many-faced god. Effect: Provides 1,000 points of life energy per month."
Essos, Braavos, House of Black and White, Pool
The House of Black and White is a temple dedicated to the many-faced god and is a very important power in Braavos. However, today, the House of Black and White was filled with a sinister and eerie atmosphere.
The pool, which was usually as tranquil as a mirror, was now like a pot of boiling water, bubbling with terrifying thick smoke and black gas.
"Hiss, hiss, hiss..."
At that moment, all the Faceless Men began to hiss. Their faces twitched and convulsed rapidly, eventually all transforming into the likeness of Jaqen H'ghar.
Many ordinary people who had come to pray were instantly frozen in place with fear upon seeing this bizarre scene.
"The offender must die. The power of the foreign god must be expelled."
Continuous words echoed through the hall. All the Faceless Men spoke this single sentence numbly, as if something were controlling them.
"Rumble..."
These words seemed to carry a strange magic, causing the entire House of Black and White to vibrate.
