Chapter 6 - The Throne That Judges

Chapter 6

The chamber sealed completely.

Stone ground against stone as the spiral entrance fused shut. Ancient sigils along the pillars flared to life, rotating in layered concentric halos around the vast circular arena.

At the center—

The Throne Formation awakened.

It was not ornamental.

It was constructed from interlocking black monolith segments suspended in midair, orbiting a hollow core of compressed gravitational light. Lines of Sovereign script flowed across its surface like living circuitry.

It was waiting.

Not for strength.

For legitimacy.

The corrupted claimant stood between Kael and the Throne.

Up close, the damage was clearer.

His right arm was crystallized from shoulder to fingertips, veins glowing with fractured crimson Aether. Sovereign sigils had been forcibly grafted into his armor—misaligned, unstable, parasitic.

He had stolen resonance.

But he did not embody it.

"You're late," the man said calmly. "I was beginning to think the structure would settle for me."

His Authority flared outward aggressively.

Unlike Kael's contained pressure, this was oppressive. Jagged. Unrefined.

The pillars trembled slightly in response.

Kael stepped forward.

He said nothing.

The man smiled.

"I'll introduce myself properly before I take what's beneath your feet."

He extended his crystallized hand.

"Professor Lucien Rhyss. Former Sovereign Studies Division."

Ah.

An insider.

Not an invader.

Lucien tilted his head.

"You feel it, don't you? The call."

"Yes."

Lucien's smile widened. "Good. Then you understand. This isn't about destruction."

He gestured toward the Throne.

"It's about succession."

The Throne pulsed once.

A deep gravitational thud reverberated through the chamber.

The Dominion Protocol activated sharply.

Hostile Claimant Authority Index: 14

Synchronization with Structure: 23%

Host Authority Index: 7

Synchronization: 36%

The structure preferred Kael.

But preference was not dominance.

Lucien's crystallized arm expanded, plates extending into jagged blades.

"You're young," Lucien said calmly. "Which means the structure is reacting to your potential."

His Authority surged again.

"But potential is meaningless without conquest."

He moved.

Not recklessly.

Not wildly.

His speed distorted the air in a crimson streak as he crossed the chamber in a single breath.

Kael rotated his Aether channels immediately.

Void-Phase Step.

He vanished.

Lucien's blade carved through the space Kael had occupied, slicing the floor open in a perfectly straight line that extended twenty meters.

Reality shuddered.

Lucien turned instantly.

Predictive.

Experienced.

"You phase well," he admitted.

Kael reappeared behind him, palm already striking toward Lucien's spine.

Entropic Requiem.

The blow landed.

Lucien's armor cracked—

But did not collapse.

Crimson Aether surged violently from his crystallized arm, wrapping around his torso and stabilizing the damage.

Lucien spun, elbow slamming toward Kael's skull.

Kael leaned just outside impact radius.

The elbow grazed his mask.

The mask fractured slightly.

Lucien grinned.

"Good."

He slammed both feet into the ground.

The chamber shook as gravity inverted in a localized sphere.

Kael felt the distortion instantly.

Not wide.

Focused.

Lucien wasn't trying to overwhelm the room.

He was isolating Kael.

The gravitational field intensified sharply.

Floor cracked.

Air compressed.

Lucien extended his crystallized arm forward.

"Submission Protocol."

Crimson sigils flared around Kael in a tightening ring.

They weren't purely gravitational.

They were Authority-binding constructs.

Stolen from the Throne.

Kael's breathing slowed.

He did not resist immediately.

He observed.

Lucien's Authority projection was externally anchored to the Throne's outer sigil layer.

Meaning—

He was drawing from it.

Not generating independently.

Flawed.

Kael lifted one hand slightly.

"Authority."

The word was quiet.

Contained.

But the chamber responded.

His Authority Index flared from 7 to 9 instantly.

The pillars shifted orientation.

Not toward Lucien.

Toward him.

The binding sigils hesitated.

Lucien's eyes narrowed.

"Interesting…"

Kael shifted his Aether flow inward, compressing it into a micro-singularity within his Eidolon Core.

Instead of expanding outward—

He increased density.

The gravitational binding shattered.

Lucien's smile faded slightly.

"You're not fighting me," he observed.

"No."

Kael stepped forward calmly.

"You're fighting the Throne."

The central monolith segments began rotating faster.

Lucien felt it too.

His synchronization flickered—23% dropping to 19%.

Lucien snarled and surged forward again.

This time—

He did not aim to bind.

He aimed to kill.

His crystallized arm elongated into a spear of condensed Authority and thrust directly at Kael's heart.

Kael activated Partial Dominion.

0.5 seconds.

The world slowed.

Lucien's movement decelerated slightly within the pressure zone.

Enough.

Kael stepped inside the spear's path.

He did not block.

He redirected.

With precise Aether modulation, he twisted Lucien's Authority vector three degrees off-axis.

The spear missed his heart by centimeters.

Kael drove his palm into Lucien's chest at the same instant.

Not entropic.

Not destabilizing.

Injecting alignment disruption.

Lucien staggered back.

The Throne pulsed violently.

Synchronization recalculated.

Host Synchronization: 44%

Hostile Claimant: 11%

Lucien's expression hardened.

"You think the Throne chooses morality?" he spat. "It chooses power."

He raised both arms.

Crimson Authority erupted outward wildly, flooding the chamber.

The pillars cracked.

Sigils destabilized.

Lucien forced synchronization upward through brute dominance.

His Authority Index spiked to 18 temporarily.

The pressure became suffocating.

Even Kael's breathing slowed.

Lucien roared—not emotionally, but mechanically—channeling everything.

The Throne's orbit destabilized.

Monolith segments shifted violently.

The chamber began collapsing.

Lucien laughed.

"If I can't inherit it cleanly, I'll force it!"

That was his flaw.

Force.

Kael's eyes sharpened.

He stopped resisting entirely.

He stopped fighting Lucien.

Instead—

He stepped toward the Throne.

Lucien blinked.

"What are you—"

Kael placed his hand directly upon the rotating gravitational core.

The contact was immediate.

Total.

The Throne did not reject him.

It synchronized.

Authority flooded upward—not explosive—

Inevitable.

Lucien's crimson energy flickered violently.

His synchronization plummeted.

Host Synchronization: 63%

The chamber stabilized instantly around Kael's frequency.

Lucien staggered backward, clutching his crystallized arm as cracks spread across it.

"You—" he hissed. "What are you?"

Kael looked at him calmly.

"Compatible."

Lucien screamed and charged one final time.

Desperation.

Authority burning uncontrollably.

Kael did not move.

The Throne did.

A gravitational vector shifted.

Lucien's body halted mid-charge.

Suspended.

Crimson energy flickered wildly as the Throne rejected his resonance entirely.

His crystallized arm shattered first.

Then the sigils embedded in his armor tore free violently.

Lucien's Authority collapsed inward.

He hit the ground hard.

Breathing.

Alive.

But empty.

The Throne's monolith segments settled into stable orbit.

The chamber grew quiet.

The Dominion Protocol pulsed deeply.

Authority Index: 12

Synchronization: 71%

Coronation Protocol: Pending

Kael stepped down from the Throne core.

He did not sit.

Not yet.

Lucien lay on the ground, barely conscious.

He laughed weakly.

"So it chose you…"

"Yes."

Lucien coughed blood.

"Then remember this…"

His eyes flickered with fading defiance.

"You weren't the only one who heard the call."

The chamber trembled faintly.

Not from below.

From above.

Multiple signatures.

Descending rapidly.

Kael's perception expanded upward through stone and metal.

Several Authority-level presences were approaching the sealed shaft.

Stronger than Lucien.

Organized.

Intentional.

The Dominion Protocol updated.

External Claimants: 3 Identified

Estimated Arrival: 90 Seconds

Lucien smiled faintly through broken teeth.

"You're not inheriting it."

The tremor intensified.

The sealed shaft above began cracking.

Kael turned his gaze upward.

His voice was calm.

"They're too late."

The Throne pulsed once more.

And this time—

It answered him completely.
