Chapter 359 - Chapter 358: Target: Golden Mansion, Renya Karasuma

Morning light struggled to squeeze through the high transom window of the cell, casting a few pale patches of light on the floor. Kuroba Chie slowly opened her eyes; the look in them was completely different from yesterday.

Those eyes, which once burned with the fire of vengeance and later solidified into cold indifference, now rippled with a complex and submissive moisture. The hatred hadn't completely vanished, but it was overlaid by something deeper and more primal—the awakened forbidden memories, the forcibly branded sense of belonging, and the soul's submission before absolute power.

The energy chains had quietly loosened when she awoke. She supported her sore body to sit up, and everything that happened last night flooded back into her mind. Shame, anger, self-loathing... but these emotions had strangely settled into a placid resignation, and beneath that placidity, a trace of pathological attachment to That Man, one that scared even herself.

The cell door slid open silently.

Kanjuro did not appear. Instead, two women entered—Kudo Yukiko and Eri Kisaki. They carried delicate meal trays and clean clothes, their faces wearing gentle, knowing smiles that Kuroba Chie couldn't quite comprehend.

"Sister Chie, you're awake?" Yukiko's voice was light, her blonde hair shining in the morning light. "Eat something first. Father instructed us to take good care of you."

Eri Kisaki placed the clothes aside, her gaze sharply sweeping over the ambiguous marks on Kuroba Chie's neck. A complex emotion flashed in her eyes, but it quickly dissolved into gentle acceptance. "Hot water is ready. Do you need help?"

Kuroba Chie stared at them blankly. These two women, one the former apprentice of her elder Brother, the other the queen of the legal world, were now addressing her as'sister' and appearing with such docile deference.

She opened her mouth, her voice hoarse: "You... why?"

Yukiko and Eri Kisaki exchanged a look, their smiles carrying a hint of unspoken mutual understanding.

"Why?" Yukiko tilted her head, her eyes momentarily unfocused. "Because... we can't forget. That night eighteen years ago, that tremor of being swallowed by darkness yet connected to supreme power... After that, everything else became pale."

Eri Kisaki sighed softly, her tone unusually calm: "I once thought it was a nightmare, trying to cover it up with law, reason, and career. But the more I suppressed it, the clearer that branded feeling became. Only when I saw him again... did I realize some connections cannot be severed."

"We struggled, Chie," Yukiko knelt down and took Kuroba Chie's cold hand. "But in the end, we understood that resisting this attraction originating from the dark source only brings suffering. Accepting it, embracing it... brings a strange peace instead."

Kuroba Chie felt the warmth in Yukiko's palm as she listened to them calmly recount their inability to forget Kanjuro and their eventual submission. The last barrier in her heart crumbled.

So... she wasn't the only one.

That throbbing for forbidden power that had been awakened, the intertwining of hatred and attraction—it wasn't her unique weakness.

"I..." Kuroba Chie's voice trembled, "I also... can't forget. Eighteen years ago... and last night..."

Saying those words brought her a strange sense of relief, as if she had finally confessed a long-held secret.

Yukiko smiled, and Eri Kisaki also showed a gentle expression. They helped her up and changed her clothes with movements as soft as true sisters. During this process, Kuroba Chie felt a twisted sense of belonging—here, her'shame' needed no hiding, and her 'abnormality' was fully accepted.

After Kuroba Chie finished washing up and changed into a dark purple dress prepared by Yukiko, she was led to the main hall of the Mansion.

Kanjuro was lounging on his ornate chaise lounge, idly playing with a piece of black crystal. Akako, Aoko, and the other women stood or sat quietly around him, the entire scene resembling a dark court painting.

When Kuroba Chie arrived, all the women's gazes fell upon her. There was no hostility in those looks, only calm acceptance, and even a hint of welcoming warmth in a few—in this twisted family, another'sister' had arrived.

Kanjuro looked up, his gaze sweeping over the newly refreshed Kuroba Chie, whose eyes held a completely different expression, a faint, half-smile playing on his lips.

"It seems you rested well?" His voice was flat, yet carried an unmistakable tone of control.

Kuroba Chie walked to the center of the hall, slightly lowering her head, her voice clear and steady: "Yes, Father."

As she uttered that title, her heart ached momentarily, yet it felt strangely smooth—as if it were meant to be.

Kanjuro chuckled softly, placing the crystal down and leaning slightly forward. "Then, tell me, Chie. That protective affection you held for that child, Kuroba Kaito... where is it now?"

The question was like a cold dagger, striking directly at the most contradictory point in her heart.

The hall fell silent, all eyes focused on Kuroba Chie.

She raised her head and looked directly at Kanjuro. Struggle and pain flashed in her eyes, but ultimately settled into a kind of twisted clarity.

"Last night..." Her voice trembled slightly, yet was exceptionally firm, "Didn't I already prove my loyalty and... my love for you?"

When uttering the word "love," her cheeks flushed slightly, yet she forced herself to continue, "Compared to my feelings for you, everyone else... means nothing."

She paused, taking a deep breath, "Kaito... is not my son. I protect him, I care for him, only because he is Toichi-nii-san's bloodline, a responsibility I owe to the Kuroba family. What I cannot tolerate... is your act of turning him into a human torso; it is too cruel, too..."

Her voice dropped, genuine pain surfacing in her eyes, "But if you needed proof that my loyalty to you surpasses everything else... then I have proven it. Kaito, in the end, is not my child."

These words echoed in the hall, cruel and undeniable.

Yukiko sighed softly, Eri Kisaki looked away, while Akako and Aoko remained expressionless—did they not each harbor similar conflicts and choices in their own hearts?

Kanjuro quietly observed Kuroba Chie, watching her for a long time. Then, he slowly leaned back in his chair, a genuinely pleased smile spreading across his face.

That smile was not mockery, but a satisfaction of having achieved his desire.

"Very good," he murmured approvingly, "You finally understand what is most important."

He gestured, and Kuroba Chie obediently walked forward, kneeling on the cushion at his feet—just like Akako, Aoko, and the others.

Kanjuro reached out, gently stroking her hair, the movement almost tender.

"Welcome home, Chie," he said, "To the real home."

Kuroba Chie closed her eyes, feeling the warmth of the hand on her head, tears silently streaming down her face.

In those tears lay farewell to the past, guilt towards Kaito, self-loathing, but more than anything... a desperate calm born from giving up the struggle after sinking into the abyss.

She had finally submitted completely.

And Kanjuro's dark kingdom had acquired another precious and highly destructive collectible—a collectible that knew all of Kuroba Toichi's weaknesses, someone who had once been his most trusted person.

The game was progressing in an even more brutal and unpredictable direction.

Kuroba Chie's complete submission was like the final crucial puzzle piece, fitting into the dark blueprint Kanjuro had meticulously constructed. The atmosphere within the Mansion shifted subtly; the new'sister' brought new stability but also implicitly foretold the approach of a greater storm. Kuroba Toichi, still anxiously plotting overseas, remained completely unaware of the drastic changes happening to his sister, and this information gap became another invisible card in Kanjuro's hand.

Kanjuro did not linger long in the pleasure of acquiring a new collectible. He knew well that the true power game was never confined to a single city or territory. In the morning, he stood alone on the observation terrace of the Mansion's top floor, looking down over the awakening Tokyo, his gaze seemingly piercing through the clouds to land upon a more distant, darker chessboard.

Just then, a special encrypted communicator he carried quietly lit up; there was no ringtone, only a barely perceptible energy vibration. The screen displayed a codename—Vmouth (Vermouth).

Kanjuro's fingertip slid across the screen, connecting the call.

"Lord Kanjuro," came Vermouth's lazy, magnetic voice from the other end, though a slight, undetectable tension could be discerned upon close listening, "I hope I haven't disturbed your morning."

"Speak," Kanjuro stated concisely.

"The Boss's movements have become clear," Vermouth's voice lowered, carrying the precision unique to intelligence operatives. "He is currently at the Twilight Mansion—you know, that legendary 'Golden Mansion.' His accompanying personnel are minimal, but the Mansion's own defense systems and those 'old relics' cannot be underestimated. This might be the moment he has been most 'exposed' recently."

A gleam flashed in Kanjuro's eyes. The Twilight Mansion, that labyrinth constructed of gold, the legendary core ground of the king of crows' army, and one of the most probable lairs for 'That Man' who had hidden for over half a century.

"Source of the information?" Kanjuro asked.

"Whispers leaking from Rum's side, verified through my own channels. The credibility is very high," Vermouth replied, then added, "He seems eager to complete some kind of... 'verification,' or 'transformation' within the Mansion. The activity was greater than usual, which is how the slip-up occurred."

Kanjuro fell silent for a moment. The Black Organization, this dark empire spanning half a century with deep roots, its ultimate control had always been part of his plan. Controlling the organization meant controlling countless resources, talents, technology, and tentacles hidden in the shadows worldwide. This satisfied his craving for 'absolute control' far more than controlling a few important women or dealing with one or two legendary Magicians.

And the Boss, that mysterious 'king of crows,' was the final and greatest obstacle to the throne.

"The timing is indeed appropriate," Kanjuro spoke slowly, his tone devoid of emotion. "We just welcomed a new member to the household; it's time to find some grander industries for the 'family'."

Vermouth seemed to let out a light chuckle on the other end, a complex and inscrutable sound. "You always have such foresight. Then, what do you need me to do? Act as backup inside the Mansion? Or..."

"You remain on the periphery. With the Boss suddenly so 'active,' there must be other ambitious individuals stirring within the Organization," Kanjuro instructed. "I will handle the matter of the Mansion personally."

"Understood," Vermouth responded, pausing for a moment, her voice rarely betraying the slightest hint of concern belonging to 'Chris Vineyard' rather than 'Vermouth.' "Please be careful. That Mansion... is like a living monster itself. Moreover, the Boss has been running things for decades."

"A monster?" A cold arc curved on Kanjuro's lips. "That is precisely what I excel at dealing with."

The communication ended.

Kanjuro turned, his gaze seeming to pierce through the walls, seeing the women waiting quietly downstairs in the hall, their fates now bound to his. Akako, Aoko, Chie, Yukiko, Eri, Ran, Sonoko... they were his collection, the extension of his power, and the foundation and ornamentation of his dark reign.

He walked slowly downstairs. As he appeared, all hushed conversations in the hall ceased, and all eyes focused on him.

"I need to be away for a few days," Kanjuro's voice was not loud, but it clearly reached everyone's ears. "To handle some... expansion of 'family business'."

The women's expressions varied, but none questioned him. Kuroba Chie looked up, a complex emotion flickering in her eyes—concern, bewilderment, perhaps even a trace of anxiety for the unknown fate her Brother was about to face. But this trace of worry was quickly suppressed by her, transforming into obedient silence.

"Akako, Aoko," Kanjuro named them.

The two girls stepped forward.

"Oversee the daily affairs of the Mansion," Kanjuro's gaze lingered for a moment in their shadowed eyes. "If any 'visitors' arrive... such as that anxious legendary Magician, you know how to 'entertain' them."

Akako nodded slightly, and Aoko nodded expressionlessly. They knew who Kanjuro was referring to—Kuroba Toichi. This returning avenger was destined to face a seemingly empty nest, one actually filled with invisible shackles and deadly traps, and two of his former 'daughter' and'sister' who had completely defected.

Kanjuro's gaze swept over Kuroba Chie one last time, saying nothing, but that look was enough to make her heart clench, completely extinguishing any possibility of impractical thoughts.

Without further goodbyes or instructions, Kanjuro turned and walked toward the private passage deep inside the Mansion. It led directly to the hidden garage and helipad. A specially modified helicopter, capable of evading most detection systems, was already prepared to take him to the legendary Mansion built with gold and blood, hidden amidst the clouds and mountains—the Twilight Mansion.

A new hunt was about to begin. The target's level had escalated from individual rebels to the lingering emperor of a dark age.

Behind him, the Tokyo Mansion lay like a dark giant beast temporarily dormant, awaiting the next prey that walked into its trap, silently operating as a stable yet twisted rear base for his vast ambitions.

In the sky, the roar of the helicopter's rotors gradually faded, swallowed by the lead-gray clouds above the city. In front of the Mansion's massive floor-to-ceiling window, Kuroba Chie had appeared at some point, watching the direction the helicopter disappeared, her fingers unconsciously gripping the heavy curtain.

Behind her, Yukiko gently placed a hand on her shoulder, warm, yet impossible to shake off.

"He will return," Yukiko's voice held a hypnotic certainty. "And until then, we only need to wait, and... do everything he instructed."

Kuroba Chie closed her eyes and slowly released her grip.

Yes, they only needed to wait. For him, and for the coming... Brother.

The core of the storm had shifted, but its aftershocks would continue to echo in this city, in this 'home'.
