Chapter 406 - Anya

Translator: AnubisTL

The dizziness from the interplanar teleportation had not yet fully faded. Jieming and Viola's feet had just touched solid ground, and before they could even take in their surroundings, a fierce wind, accompanied by a piercing whistle, came crashing down upon them!

"Hmm?!"

"Watch out!"

Both were battle-hardened veterans, remaining calm despite the surprise.

Almost the same instant they sensed the danger, Jieming formed a sword-hand gesture. A highly condensed space distortion force field surged upward like an invisible barrier.

Viola was even faster. Without even looking up, she simply swung her hand upward. A shockwave imbued with her unique Law Power struck first!

BOOM!!

A massive meteorite, over five meters in diameter and wreathed in scorching flames and earth elements, was struck by both forces simultaneously less than ten meters above their heads. It instantly shattered into countless fragments of rock and sparks, raining down like a brief meteor shower.

Only then did the two have a chance to observe their surroundings.

They found themselves inside a building that resembled a laboratory or an observation station, but the building's dome had been smashed open, leaving a jagged, gaping hole.

Through the hole, they could see that the sky outside was not the serene and peaceful one they had expected, but a chaotic battlefield where various energy beams crisscrossed and explosions flashed incessantly.

Fortunately, the protective magic arrays carved around the laboratory seemed to be stubbornly functioning, emitting a steady energy glow.

Even if they hadn't reacted in time, that meteorite would have most likely been deflected or blocked by this protective force field.

"What the hell is going on?!" Viola's brows furrowed in anger. She exchanged a glance with Jieming, and in a flash, they both shot out of the hole in the dome and hovered in mid-air.

Once outside, the sight before them left them both stunned.

Not far away, a sphere of light—constantly shifting between crimson, azure, and ochre while radiating violent elemental fluctuations—was locked in a fierce battle with a giant Demon Flower. The flower was a twisted mass of countless thick vines, its crowning bloom emitting ripples of psychic pollution.

The sphere of light spewed Lava Rays and Frost Storms, while the Demon Flower lashed out with its thorn-covered vine whips and continuously exhaled clouds of spores capable of corroding energy shields.

The shockwaves from their battle tore through the surrounding ground, leaving it a mangled mess.

And this was merely a tiny glimpse of the grander battlefield.

Jieming instinctively activated his "Scouting Eye" and a variety of other detection spells, his field of vision rapidly expanding.

Within his sensory range, the continent they were on seemed to be engulfed in an all-out war!

One side consisted of Photonic Lifeforms—beings of pure elemental energy in myriad shapes. The other side was a bizarrely diverse army of Animated Plants, as if imbued with a frenzied vitality.

Beams of energy clashed with explosive spores, and the dissonant sounds of elemental wails and snapping plants wove together into a chaotic and cruel symphony.

The appearance of Jieming and Viola, these "uninvited guests," was like a drop of cold water falling into a boiling pot of oil. It instantly drew the attention of many "residents" on the nearby battlefield.

Immediately, several "Flame Walkers" composed of flickering fire and a few "Howling Venus Flytraps" with sharp teeth and brandishing brambles all turned in their direction. They charged toward them, emitting incomprehensible spiritual waves and electromagnetic radiation!

Though he couldn't understand their specific language, Jieming clearly captured the meaning transmitted by both sides through his spiritual sense:

[ Light Elemental Lifeform ]: "Quick! Kill those two ugly, asymmetrical flesh monsters!"

[ Animated Plant ]: "Monsters! These two rootless, leafless, drab-colored flesh monsters are so ugly! Purify them!"

Jieming's mouth twitched slightly. He remained relatively calm in the face of such "insults" based on racial aesthetics.

But Viola, beside him, flushed crimson with rage the moment she clearly received the spiritual meaning of words like "ugly" and "monsters." Her silver-gray hair seemed to stir even without a breeze!

"Who... who are you calling ugly?!"

As they say, a maiden's blush is more powerful than anything. Without Jieming needing to lift a finger, Viola, in her fury, raised her hand and clawed the air toward the charging creatures!

There was no earth-shattering explosion, no brilliant elemental light.

Yet the Flame Walkers and Howling Venus Flytraps, which had been roaring and charging forward, froze instantly!

Then, they let out screams far more piercing and agonized than any they had uttered during the battle.

The flames on the Flame Walkers flickered and died, their forms twisting and dissolving as they emitted shrill electromagnetic shrieks. The vines of the Howling Venus Flytraps spasmed wildly, their sharp teeth snapping open and shut, radiating ripples of excruciating spiritual pain.

Even more terrifying was the fact that this pain seemed contagious.

In the distance, other elemental creatures and Animated Plants—those who had intended to reinforce their fallen comrades—suddenly plummeted from the sky or collapsed to the ground without warning, joining this silent yet utterly brutal assembly of agony.

For a moment, the frontal battle in this area came to a bizarre standstill.

The elemental creatures and Animated Plants that still retained the ability to move acted as if they had encountered an entity of ultimate horror. They screamed frantically via spiritual waves.

[ Light Elemental Lifeform ]: "Beware! It's a hideous flesh monster that spreads invisible pain! Go back and report to the Elder!"

[ Animated Plant ]: "Horrible! The hideous monster is making us tie ourselves in knots! Run! Go find the Mother of the Forest!"

They retreated in a panicked rout, ebbing away like a tide and leaving this region—now filled only with "pain"—to Jieming and Viola.

Jieming raised his hand, summoning several Black Giant Priests. He pointed to the "captives" on the ground, who were twitching uncontrollably as their forms neared collapse, signaling the priests to restrain and collect them for later soul-searching to extract information.

Only then did he turn to Viola, who was still seething. His tone held a hint of oddity. "Senior Viola, your friend here... her usual 'ecological environment' maintenance is quite a unique hobby, isn't it?"

By now, Viola had composed herself. Hearing his words, she looked utterly bewildered and innocent, shaking her head vigorously. "It wasn't me! The last time I came, Starfall's 'Hundred Flowers Garden' was clearly a beautiful, harmonious place! It was full of glowing, gentle mushrooms and singing flowers, and even cute little elves! It was nothing like this apocalyptic nightmare!"

Jieming began to seriously doubt. "Senior, are you sure you didn't enter the wrong teleportation coordinates? Did we accidentally barge into some strange, war-torn plane?"

"How could I have entered the coordinates wrong?!" Viola fumed, her anger manifesting in a sharp chop to Jieming's head. A dull thud echoed through the air.

Immediately after, she winced, cradling her own hand and grimacing in pain. Jieming's head, tempered through countless battles, was as hard as high-tier mana-conductive metal.

Seeing Viola's reaction, Jieming rubbed the top of his head—which hadn't felt a thing—and scratched it in confusion.

The coordinates must be correct. This is definitely Viola's friend's plane.

But this scene...

"Could a legion from another plane be invading?" Jieming speculated.

As the thought crossed his mind, he couldn't help but hiss in excitement, his eyes instantly igniting with an irrepressible brilliance.

An invasion?

For a wizard with a private plane, what was this? This was like walking down the street and having military merits, rare materials, and research specimens fall from the sky!

It was practically a feast!

Still, Jieming knew that such "windfalls" were astronomically rare. His immediate priority was to figure out exactly what was happening here.

Once the Black Giant Priest brought the prisoner back, they could search his soul. Then, everything would be revealed.

However, before the Black Giant Priest could return, Jieming and Viola both stiffened, their expressions turning grim as they sensed a powerful life aura hurtling into their vigilance range!

The two immediately went on high alert, their energy secretly condensing.

But soon, they relaxed.

Though the aura was powerful, it bore no resemblance to any of the chaotic creatures they had sensed before. Its energy structure was stable and orderly, carrying the distinct signature of a wizard.

Moreover, Jieming felt that this energy structure... held a faint hint of familiarity?

The next instant, a blazing red light streaked across the sky, descending like a meteor!

The red light rapidly approached, revealing its true form—a massive, powerful elemental sprite composed entirely of pure fire element, its shape bearing a strong resemblance to a Western dragon!

It radiated a heart-stopping heat, evaporating the moisture in the air wherever it passed.

The Flame Dragon Elemental Sprite slammed into the ground, causing it to tremble slightly.

But upon landing, its massive body swiftly shrank and solidified. In the blink of an eye, it transformed into a small dragon, no larger than a palm, carved from exquisite ruby, and hovered obediently in mid-air.

The figure that had been protected within the core of its elemental body now appeared clearly.

She was a petite young woman with silky silver hair that seemed woven from moonlight, and deep blue eyes as clear as a mountain lake.

Her power radiated a profound affinity for life and nature.

Several small spirit bodies and elemental sprites of various forms, shimmering with a soft light, circled her joyfully like loyal guardians and companions. Their presence formed a stark contrast to the war-torn ruins surrounding them.

Seeing this familiar face, Jieming blurted out without thinking:

"Anya?"

The newcomer was none other than Anya Starfall—one of the Tier 10 Talent Super Geniuses he had met several times during the Elite Trial at the Noren Workshop years ago.

She was a prodigy who excelled in summoning and commanding elemental spirits and demonic beasts, possessing an extraordinary perception and understanding of life and the soul.

Viola leaned in, glancing between Jieming and Anya in surprise. "Huh? You two know each other?"

Jieming nodded. "We met a few times during the graduation trial."

He then looked at Anya with even greater confusion. "But, Wizard Anya, what are you doing here?"

Viola patted Jieming's shoulder, her tone tinged with the sentiment that "it's a small world." "No need to guess. Let me introduce you. Anya is the direct descendant of my friend, and she's also her primary assistant and student."
