Chapter 104 - Adaptation

Translator: AnubisTL

While the entire Elosia Plane buzzed with activity due to the massive bounty, Jieming and his companions were still traversing the desolate mountains.

Jieming's advancement to first-tier wizard had exceeded his initial expectations. The Ring of Truth's amplification of mental power and acceleration of cultivation speed proved astonishingly potent.

Moreover, the amplified mental power could be converted into tangible cultivation progress through the inner circulation and refining essence into qi cultivation methods.

In recent days, Jieming's qi refining cultivation and meditation speed had both surged to new heights, creating a self-reinforcing cycle of rapid advancement.

As all three members advanced to first-tier wizard, they encountered a common problem: imprecise control over their newfound power.

Fortunately, this issue proved easily resolved.

During their long journey to the wizard stronghold, they transformed the non-threatening enemy units they encountered along the way into training grounds for "clearing" and "familiarizing themselves with their power."

Jieming led the way, his mental power constantly connected to the Five Aggregates Rainbow Transformation Mirror.

Through years of deliberate cultivation, the mirror's spirituality had grown sufficiently robust to process the massive influx of information from the Glimmering Eye network, including data from the scouting eyes.

As they traversed a forest shrouded in dense fog, the Five Aggregates Rainbow Transformation Mirror issued a warning.

"Ahead, a group of small Forest Spirits," Jieming whispered. "Approximately thirty in number, relatively weak, but their energy fluctuations are peculiar."

Victor and Amy immediately understood, preparing their respective offensive spells.

"The shaman's soul contained no information about the spirits in this area. Stay vigilant!" Amy cautioned.

Jieming and Victor nodded silently.

Throughout their journey, they had not only grown familiar with their own powers but also witnessed the unique innate talents of the native creatures of this plane.

Many of these creatures' abilities might sound insignificant, but under unfamiliar circumstances, carelessness could lead to dire consequences.

Just like the orcs they had encountered while destroying the shrine earlier.

The orcs were known for their extraordinary resilience, but only after facing them firsthand did they realize their vitality was so tenacious that even with their bodies riddled with holes, they retained the capacity to retaliate.

The so-called "Monsters" were a unique form of natural spirits found on the Elosia Plane.

Their inherent nature—whether benevolent or malevolent—and their innate talents would adapt in response to changes in their natural environment, making them some of the most difficult enemies to gather intelligence on.

As the trio approached the camp, a malevolent shriek pierced the air.

Dozens of Forest Spirits, each with a unique form, materialized from the dense mist. Some resembled twisted branches, others resembled moss-covered stones, all radiating a faint green glow.

They moved with astonishing speed, their sharp claws and mandibles lunging at the trio from all directions.

But Jieming was faster. Before they could strike, he unleashed a barrage of energy bullets.

Yet the attack proved almost entirely ineffective.

The white, stream-like energy bullets tore through the Forest Spirits' bodies, shattering them into fragments. Yet the creatures continued their assault as if completely unharmed.

"Watch out! This outer shell isn't their real bodies!" Jieming shouted immediately.

He had keenly observed that these Monsters continued to function regardless of physical damage. Some even had their bodies completely suspended in mid-air, yet remained unaffected.

This meant the visible forms were merely illusions.

Based on the energy bullets' performance, the Forest Spirits' true bodies likely existed in a phantom-like state, impervious to physical attacks.

Having lost the initiative, the monsters pounced in the blink of an eye.

Yet Jieming showed no sign of panic.

The moment the monsters attacked, his mental power surged within him, instantly activating the defensive rune-imbued magical artifact that had been dormant.

The monsters' previously swift movements suddenly slowed to a crawl, as if they were mired in thick, viscous mud.

This was Jieming's outermost layer of defense—the Deceleration Field.

A powerful energy field enveloped the area around Jieming, causing any monster that entered to move with agonizing slowness, as if trapped in slow motion.

Some monsters, unwilling to be deterred, circled around the Deceleration Field, searching for gaps in the energy field.

But they soon discovered that their target was beginning to blur and distort.

This was the effect of the second layer of defense—the Refractive Light Mirror.

The air around Jieming was being refracted by some unseen force, severely distorting the monsters' vision. Those few who managed to endure the Deceleration Field and close in found their attacks deflected, striking empty air or hitting their own allies.

Before the monsters could devise a countermeasure, two more layers of defense activated around Jieming.

Four "Force Field Shields" materialized around him, their surfaces shimmering with glowing runes. These sturdy force fields, constructed from talisman seals, offered limited coverage but provided exceptionally strong frontal protection.

The final layer of defense was the most fundamental and intimate: the "energy shield."

A transparent membrane of light enveloped Jieming's body, resembling a translucent eggshell.

This multi-layered defense system rendered the monsters' attacks utterly ineffective.

After carefully observing for a moment, Jieming confirmed the monsters' true nature.

"Completely immune to physical attacks, yet highly vulnerable to energy. Even the energy field of the Deceleration Field can inflict significant damage... They possess a characteristic similar to 'Etherealization,' making them specialized creatures adapted to physical attacks..."

He slightly raised his wrist, and the bracelet rapidly rotated, revealing the rune-imbued magical artifact embedded within.

"Fortunately, I came prepared."

The rune-imbued magical artifacts on his wrists were each attuned to different types of attacks.

The talisman seal on his left wrist unleashed pure kinetic energy bullets.

The talisman seal on his right wrist unleashed pure elemental erosion energy blasts.

"Elemental erosion," Jieming thought, focusing his mind.

In the next instant, the rune-imbued magical artifact on his right wrist began to spin rapidly. Ten finger-thick beams of white light shot out like lasers, precisely striking the Monsters still struggling within the Deceleration Field.

The high-intensity elemental erosion force bypassed the Monsters' Etherealization, seeping into their intangible bodies like ink spreading through water and directly damaging their energy cores.

"Screech!!!"

The Monsters emitted piercing shrieks as their bodies were forcibly materialized from their ethereal state. They rapidly withered, collapsing into pools of steaming, black-smoke-emitting green liquid.

Turning his head, Jieming saw Amy and Victor swiftly dispatching the remaining scattered monsters, preventing their escape.

With all the monsters annihilated, the forest floor was now covered in pools of green liquid.

"Tsk, tsk, tsk... You're getting more impressive by the day," Amy remarked, shaking her head in admiration as she looked at Jieming.

Victor sighed, "I thought mastering offensive spells would close the gap between us, but it seems like you're pulling further ahead."

"That's only natural," Jieming replied with a grin. "After all, as you said yourself, I'm the top dog in the alchemy department."

After days of fighting together, the group's camaraderie had deepened significantly.

Just as Jieming was about to say something more, his brow furrowed.

His scouting eye had detected a small team of transcendents emitting a unique energy signature, entering his "vision" fifty kilometers ahead.
