The heavy oak doors of the main dining hall had long since closed, and the quiet stillness of midnight settled over the estate.
In the private study tucked away in the west wing, the low rumble of the grand hearth cast a deep, honey-gold glow across dark velvet armchairs, thick sheepskin rugs, and walls lined with ancient leather-bound tomes. Outside, the winter wind whistled softly against the glass, but inside, the air was thick with the scent of aged cedar, sweet tobacco, and spiced wine.
Cassian sat comfortably on the plush velvet loveseat, his bare feet curled beneath him as he rested his head against the soft cushions. To his left sat Lucien, his broad shoulder pressed firmly against Cassian's, one long arm wrapped securely around Cassian's waist. On Cassian's right, Sora leaned back with uncharacteristic ease, his long dark, glossy hair draped over Cassian's shoulder, his pale fingers loosely intertwined with Cassian's free hand.
Between them sat a short obsidian table holding a decanter of dark, oak-aged spirit alcohol and three half-empty crystal tumblers.
For once, the sharp edges of parental care and duties, also old grievances, and buried grief had completely dissolved.
"They are all asleep,"
Lucien murmured softly, his low voice vibrating against Cassian's back.
"Caelen tried to stay up to drink all of the the alcohol in the shelves but thankfully Tristan practically dragged him off to the his."
"Tristan has become remarkably assertive," Sora noted, a faint, fond smile touching his lips as he stroked the back of Cassian's hand with his thumb.
"And Aurelian–... I haven't seen my son sleep through the night without trouble since he was a child. But tonight, he fell asleep by the fire before the candles were even doused."
Cassian let out a low, contented chuckle, closing his eyes as he absorbed the warmth of both men surrounding him. "They're healing. All of them."
"We all are,"
Lucien corrected gently, leaning down to press a warm, lingering kiss to the crown of Cassian's head before shifting his gaze toward Sora.
"Even us."
Sora looked up, meeting Lucien's eyes across Cassian.
Sora swirled the dark amber liquid in his glass before setting it down on the obsidian table.
"Now that everything is back in place, shouldn't we focus on the most important task to fulfill?"
Lucien and Cassian now focused on him. Confused.
"And what task is that?" Cassian asked.
"For you to ask the Emperor to prepare the high temple,"
Sora replied simply.
And Cassian blinked, a soft flush rising on his cheeks.
"Sora..."
Lucien chuckled, a deep, rich sound that echoed in his chest. He tightened his grip on Cassian's waist, pulling him back against his chest until Cassian could feel every steady beat of his heart.
"He is right, sweetheart. We've spent fifteen years living in fractured pieces—separating our lives, our duties, and our hearts. But now that we are whole–.."
"All three of us," Sora whispered, leaning forward until his forehead rested gently against Cassian's temple.
"Not two separate unions. Not a alliance of convenience. A single ceremony, bound by the ancient rites of fire and silver—a triune marriage, between the three of us."
Cassian's breath hitched in his throat. He looked between Lucien's fierce, unwavering devotion and Sora's quiet, eternal love. For so long, he had believed he would have to choose, or that the weight of their world would tear them apart. Yet here they were, settled together in the dark, weaving their lives into a single, unbreakable cord.
"A triune marriage..." Cassian repeated softly, the words feeling sweet and heavy on his tongue.
"The council will be scandalized."
"Let them be scandalized," Lucien murmured against Cassian's neck, trailing soft kisses up his jaw, making Cassian shiver with delight.
"The realm will adapt to whatever we decree for them. The ones to be against it will have to fight us."
Sora smiled—a rare, radiant expression that lit up his pale features—and leaned in close. He cupped the back of Cassian's head, tilting his face up to press a tender, lingering kiss to Cassian's parted lips. Cassian melted completely into the kiss, a quiet sigh escaping his chest as he reached up, cupping Sora's smooth cheek and feeling the rising warmth of his skin. The taste of Sora was intoxicating, sweet and familiar, pulling Cassian deeper into a haze of sensory bliss.
When Sora pulled back slightly, his breath hot against Cassian's chin, he turned his head and offered a respectful, intimate nod to Lucien. Lucien reached across Cassian's lap, his large, calloused hand sliding over Sora's fair fingers and lacing them firmly together right above Cassian's thighs.
"We marry at once," Sora said softly, his raven eyes burning with absolute conviction.
"Before the winter thaw."
"Before the winter thaw," Lucien agreed smoothly, pressing his lips to the back of Sora's knuckles before returning his dark, heavy gaze to Cassian.
"What say you, my heart?"
Cassian looked down at their joined hands resting over him, feeling the combined strength, intense love, and absolute protection of the two men who held his entire world together. A deep, radiant heat spread through his chest, washing away the very last lingering shadows of his long absence.
"I say," Cassian whispered, a brilliant, tearful smile breaking across his face, "—that I am ready to marry both of my lords."
Lucien laughed softly, the sound low and resonant. He leaned in, pulling Cassian into a deeper, breathless kiss that consumed every thought, his tongue tracing Cassian's lower lip until Cassian yielded with a quiet gasp. Simultaneously, Sora rested his forehead against Cassian's shoulder, his fingers tightening in Lucien's grasp while his free hand slid down Cassian's side, pulling the loose fabric of his robe aside to stroke the warm skin at his waist.
The three of them remained tangled together in the quiet, firelit room, wrapped in an embrace of a future finally claimed.
"By the way..." Sora smirked, raising his hand to tease Cassian's chin. His thumb hooked over Cassian's swollen lower lip, tugging it down playfully before leaning in to lick the sensitive seam. "Are you still not healed enough to make love to your mate by now?–"
"It has been fifteen years, you know?" Lucien added softly, a low chuckle vibrating against Cassian's back as his lips slid down Cassian's neck to gently bite his earlobe, pulling the soft flesh between his teeth.
Cassian groaned softly, sandwiched between the relentless heat of both men. His breath hitched as Sora's hand dipped beneath his robes, tracing slow, burning circles over his hip, while Lucien's large hand pressed firmly against his stomach, holding him flush against his rising hardness.
"Lucien... Sora..." Cassian gasped, his head falling back against Lucien's chest as crimson flushes crept up his skin. "I–... I think I am healed enough."
"Good," Sora whispered against his jaw, his dark eyes darkening with long-denied desire as he unfastened the belt of Cassian's robe, opening it to the cool room air while Lucien's hands immediately moved to cover him with warmth.
"Because we have waited long enough."
The heavy silk of Cassian's robe pooled around his hips, slipping completely away under the eager, practiced hands of the two men holding him. The cool night air of the chamber touched his exposed skin for only a fraction of a second before Lucien's searing chest pressed flush against his back, anchoring him in place.
Cassian gasped, his head tilting back onto Lucien's broad shoulder as Lucien trailed heavy, open-mouthed kisses along the sensitive curve of his throat. Every point of contact burned. Long years of ache, grief, and separation seemed to condense into the singular, overwhelming reality of their skin pressed together.
"You're breathing so fast, my Prince," Sora purred softly.
Sora hovered over Cassian from the front, kneeling between his legs on the plush mattress. His dark eyes flickered with a raw, possessive intensity as he reached out, his long fingers mapping the contours of Cassian's chest and ribs. Sora leaned down, pressing his lips to the steady thrum of Cassian's pulse at his collarbone, then lower to bite on his nipples, pulling a sharp, breathless whimper from Cassian's throat.
"Sora..."
Cassian rasped, his hands scrambling across the bedsheets before reaching up to clutch at Sora's back, pulling the elf closer.
"Lucien..."
"We have you," Lucien whispered against his ear, his deep voice a low rumble that vibrated straight through Cassian's spine.
Lucien's broad hand slid down Cassian's flat stomach, his large palm heavy and warm, tracing the line of his hip before pressing down firmly. Simultaneously, Sora moved his mouth up, catching Cassian's lips in a deep, agonizingly sweet kiss. Sora's tongue teased Cassian's lower lip open, exploring him with a frantic, hungry desperation that matched the years they had spent apart.
Cassian melted, completely sandwiched between them. Lucien's strong arms wrapped securely around his waist, lifting Cassian slightly into his lap while his hands explored every inch of Cassian's trembling thighs. Whenever Cassian felt overwhelmed by the sheer intensity of Sora's kisses, Lucien was there to catch his cheek, pressing warm, steadying kisses to his jawline, reminding him he was grounded, safe, and utterly cherished.
Sora broke the kiss with a soft gasp, his chest heaving as he looked down at Cassian's flushed face and dark, dazed crimson eyes. Sora's hand moved down, lacing his fingers through Lucien's broad hand over Cassian's stomach, their combined weight pressing against him.
"Look at us, Cassian," Sora breathed, his voice thick with devotion.
"No more missing years and no more empty bed. Doesn't that sound so nice?"
"Indeed," Lucien growled softly into Cassian's skin, his lips biting gently into the junction where Cassian's shoulder met his neck, eliciting a loud, unrestrained groan from the prince.
Together, Lucien and Sora guided Cassian down into the center of the vast bed. The world outside the master suite dissolved entirely—the estate, the lingering debts of the past, the realm's expectations—leaving only the rhythm of their shared breaths, the rustle of silk sheets, and the slow, heat-flushed rejoining of three souls who would never be parted again.
