After being driven away by the guards, Icarus circled the plantation a few times. Once he saw that the timing was about right, he headed toward his assigned location—the No. 6 wheat field.
After asking around, he finally found it.
"What a sight… these fields…"
Before him stretched a vast sea of golden wheat, swaying gently in the wind like waves.
Seven or eight farmers in work clothes were busy in the fields, but Icarus barely glanced at them.
His attention was fixed on a middle-aged woman in an Agriculture Department uniform, resting under a tree.
That must be the client.
---
"Hello, ma'am! I'm the trainer who accepted the mission!"
Icarus stepped forward, presenting his mission voucher and trainer ID.
"Oh? Just you?" The woman looked him up and down with clear doubt.
After all, over twenty Rattata plus a Raticate wasn't a small problem—and he looked far too young.
"Not just me," Icarus replied quickly. "My partner will be here soon. And my Weepinbell is mid-tier Normal level."
To reinforce his words, he released his Pokémon.
"Bell~!"
"Boom!"
At his signal, Weepinbell slammed a Poison Vine into the ground, leaving behind visibly corroded marks.
---
The woman's expression shifted as she saw the damage.
"Alright… that'll do."
She nodded and signed the mission certificate.
"And don't call me 'ma'am.' Just call me Sister Tao."
"Of course, Sister Tao!" Icarus immediately adjusted, smiling. "Must've been the sunlight earlier—I didn't realize how young you look up close."
He kept going, laying it on thick despite his own reluctance.
For him, information was worth it.
The more precise the intel, the better his control over the situation later.
---
"Hehe, you've got quite the mouth," Sister Tao said, clearly pleased. "But don't get any ideas—I've got a husband."
"Ahem… honesty is my best quality," Icarus replied smoothly, steering the conversation back. "Could you tell me the details?"
---
"Right, the details." She pulled out a hand-drawn map.
"The Rattata nest is about 600 meters from here. Around this time, you should be able to spot their burrows if you look carefully."
"There are over twenty Rattata, plus a Raticate leader at mid-tier Normal level. There's also another Raticate, low-tier."
"We're short on manpower, so it's up to you two."
She looked at him seriously.
"As long as you bring back two Raticate and materials from at least twenty Rattata, I'll mark the mission complete."
---
"Understood."
Icarus nodded, memorizing everything.
"I'll wait for my partner over there. We'll head out once he arrives."
Without giving her another chance to continue chatting, he quickly excused himself and moved away.
---
Time passed slowly.
At exactly 1:18 PM, Takashima came running over, drenched in sweat.
"Icarus-kun! Sorry I'm late! I waited at the gate for a while but didn't see you, so I came here instead!"
"It's fine," Icarus said casually. "I should've told you the exact meeting spot."
Takashima visibly relaxed.
This captain really is easy to work with…
---
"Ready to go?" Takashima asked.
"Yeah. Let's move."
---
Once they left the plantation's boundary—
"Come out, Weepinbell, Pidgeotto!"
Icarus released his Pokémon, positioning them on either side.
"Come out too—Geodude, Machop!"
Takashima followed suit.
---
Icarus quietly observed.
The Geodude was clearly undertrained—smaller, duller than average.
But the Machop…
"This one's different."
Its muscular frame was well-developed, its red eyes sharp and alert as it scanned the surroundings.
Close to mid-tier… maybe even about to break through.
---
So the real threat is the Machop.
Icarus adjusted his plan slightly.
I'll need to pay special attention to that one.
---
Without another word, the two trainers moved deeper toward the wild area—toward the Rattata nest… and toward what was really waiting there.
