In the castle's birthing chamber, the atmosphere was heavy. The King paced, his cape sweeping the stone floor. Suddenly, a cry pierced the air not one, but two.
The midwife looked up, eyes wide. "Your Majesty... it is a double blessing."
The King rushed into the chamber, sweaty and anxious. He walked briskly toward his wife, the Queen.
"My love. Ha! You did it. Finally, the heirs of this kingdom have been secured," he said, cuddling his wife. "Sister Abbie, can I see my children?"
Sister Abbie stepped forward, her movements stiff. She was only holding one bundle. The King reached out, his hands finally steadying as he took the boy. He stared down at the small face, a grin breaking across his beard.
"Look at him," he breathed, turning so the Queen could see. "He's got my face. Even the hair... it's as golden as mine. There's no mistaking it. This is my blood."
He laughed, a deep sound that rumbled in his chest, pressing his forehead against the infant's. "Aww, this is my child. My boy."
He stood there for a second, lost in the moment, before his head snapped up. He looked at the Sister, his eyes narrowing as the room went quiet.
"Wait a moment," he said, his voice dropping. "You said a double blessing. Where is my other child?"
Sister Abbie's face went pale. She opened her mouth, but nothing came out at first, just a dry, clicking sound in her throat. She looked at the Queen, then back at the King, her hands trembling against her habit.
"I... Your Majesty, I..." she stuttered, her voice failing her.
She didn't finish the sentence. Instead, she turned and walked back to the small wooden cot in the corner. She picked up the second bundle, moving much slower this time. She walked back and held the baby out.
The King looked down. The silence in the room changed. It wasn't the happy kind of quiet anymore; it was heavy.
The golden hair wasn't there. This child didn't look like the first one at all.
"What is this?"
[Before birth]
"I-I'm I a live?"
"where is this place"
"Why is it dark in here"
"Hello!? Is anyone here? Hello!"
"Mhmmmmma nya wh-why is this place so tight mmmhhhhmmaa aahhh ahhh mhhhh"
Mmhhh aaaaaa finally wooo comfortable
Your Majesty... it is a double blessing."
"Huh?! Blessings? Majesty?!
"Wait where I'm I yo!"
Look at him," he breathed, turning so the Queen could see. "He's got my face. Even the hair... it's as golden as mine. There's no mistaking it. This is my blood.
"Where I'm I what's going on please can someone give me"
Step step step
"Yo who's there I can hear ur steps"
"Mhhmmm, let me go! yo let me down!"
[Silence]
"What is this!"
"what's this blasphemy" the voice exploded
"nya! My king let me see" the queen adjusted herself on the bed.
The king stared at her his eyes now looking like a beast ready to devour his prey.
"Take this curse out of my presence" he roared
"Please let me see my child, please don't take him away" she cried, ready to go and look at the child.
VROM-TCH!
In an instant, a spear of purest white light appeared on her neck.
"move an inch and ur head will be rolling down the floor " his eye reflecting his fury
"I wouldn't even hesitate." breathe steam out of his mouth
The Queen's breath hitched, the skin of her throat reddening against the heat of the light spear.
the baby's mind raced, trapped in the weak, uncooperative body of an infant.
"Did he just say her head would roll? Yo, is this guy crazy? Who is he talking to?!"
"My King... please," Sister Abbie whispered, her voice trembling as she held the 'curse' farther away from her own body. "He is just a baby. He hasn't even opened his eyes."
"Please I beg of you please let me see my child" she pleaded.
"The only child you'll be see is our child not this one, my child" he said it with a firm voice
"guards! Get in here!"
"Your Majesty!" the lead guard barked, bowing his head quickly. "Why have you called? Is there a threat?"
"Take this thing away," the King commanded.
The guards hesitated for a split second, confused by the order to seize a newborn. The King's eyes flashed with a dangerously. "Now! Put it in the cellar. Lock the door and stay posted. I will decide what to do with it tomorrow."
As the guards stepped forward to snatch the bundle.
"Please don't"
"Captain Vern please" the queen said in a low voice.
"sorry my queen I can't.." Captain Vern said
As they took the infant and left the room the queen watched on with teary eyes.
"Look on the bright side you gave birth to another child that's perfect don't think about the other one it's a hindrance" they said leaning in and hugging the queen and kissing her on the forehead and dissipating the spear.
"..." the queen just didn't say or do anything he just kept quiet.
[Knock knock]
The King didn't let go of the Queen. He leaned in closer, his breath hot against her ear, his eyes still fixed on the door. He spoke in a low tone, "Think about that curse and I'll ensure it wouldn't see the light of day. Do you understand?"
"Come in" he commanded, still holding the queen.
As the door creaked open a man entered looking like one of Sister Abbie's assistants.
"Who's this?" the king asked in a low terrifying way.
The man bowed his head "Y-your majesty pl-pls I'm an assistant of Sister Abbie. I apologize for arriving late I had an emergency pls I apologize"
King stood no longer holding his wife now analyzing the new arrival "Abbie is this one of your people".
"Yes, your majesty, Eric, one of my disciples."
"okay, young man did u hear anything" the king asked
"no your majesty, I just got here" he responded head still low
The king analyzes his dress looking like something pulled out of the laundry.
"Good good" putting his hand on the assistants head "raise your head" smiling and rubbing Eric's white hair "Good if I might ask what's your Blessing"
As Eric raises his head and responds
"winter"
The King's smiled, but not wide. "Winter. A cold blessing haaa it takes me way back don't you say
"haha!."
He patted Eric's head one last time hard before turning his back on everyone. "Abbie, clean this mess up. Make the Queen presentable. The kingdom is waiting to see their prince. Not a weeping woman, hurry up I'll be waiting."
Without another word, the King swept out of the room.
