Maybe it was because they had talked for so long that, when Hades took it upon himself to see him off, Kyle didn't feel particularly nervous.
Naturally, he knew the older man had accompanied him because there was something he wanted to say. Hades didn't keep him waiting for long.
"Kyle," he began, "there's a reason we only had one child, even though people from named clans usually prefer to have several, so they have more than one option when it comes to passing down authority."
"And that reason is my wife's fear." He let out a quiet sigh before continuing. "She was the target of favoritism her entire life. Her younger sister was always ignored while Martha received all the praise. It created friction between them. That's why Martha never wanted the same thing to happen to her own children. From her mother's perspective, she hadn't done anything wrong."
Kyle nodded in understanding.
He knew that feeling all too well.
