Chapter 90 - The Death God Project

The Time Variance Authority (TVA) is a special department dedicated to overseeing, adjusting, and ultimately balancing the countless timelines within the multiverse, which is filled with infinite variables.

When a problem can't be solved, they usually eliminate the person causing it.

But for special reasons, the three Time Guardians dare not touch Han Shaoqing, so they can only order their subordinates to try and fix the damage as best they can.

You could also see this as the Marvel Universe's narrative correction force at work.

Yet Han Shaoqing's actions only grew bolder with each attempt, and destruction proved far easier than creation.

Han Shaoqing's constant actions kept the three Time Guardians on their toes, chasing their tails.

*One word from the leader, and the subordinates are running themselves ragged!*

Originally, TVA employees were tasked with apprehending time criminals. These criminals were usually quite troublesome, but they were rare, so the employees enjoyed a relatively relaxed work schedule.

But ever since Han Shaoqing appeared, their standard nine-to-five routine had been replaced by a brutal 24/7 system. They worked tirelessly, constantly patching up the damage, and were overwhelmed by the chaos.

If it weren't for the periodic resets of the timeline, the TVA employees would have gone mad or sought to kill Han Shaoqing, the culprit behind their misery.

But every action has its consequences.

Some people suffer misfortune, while others are fortunate.

After the Cuban Incident, temporal interference intensified, rendering the survivors of the Titanic no longer targets of the Time Variance Authority.

The "Death God Project" was consequently terminated.

In effect, Han Shaoqing had once again saved Rose and Jack's lives.

It's worth noting that the Time Variance Authority had been ruthlessly executing the "Death God Project" just days before.

Due to Han Shaoqing's unintentional actions, over 1,500 people who should have died on the Titanic survived, altering the original course of fate and creating numerous timeline branches.

To protect the Sacred Timeline, Time Variance Authority agents began using time-manipulating devices to meticulously design "coincidences" to eliminate these survivors.

Their goal was to minimize the destabilizing effects of the butterfly effect and maintain the integrity of the Sacred Timeline.

But the outside world remained oblivious to the concept of timelines. All they saw were repeated "accidents."

The survivors of the Titanic, in particular, became like startled birds, constantly on edge.

Their deaths varied wildly: some were struck by cars while walking, others slipped on banana peels and fell down stairs, some were crushed by falling signs, some perished in house fires, some were shot by stray police bullets, and others were mauled by wild animals while camping. It was a veritable encyclopedia of bizarre and gruesome deaths.

Moreover, these deaths all appeared to be accidental, with no trace of foul play.

The more one thought about it, the more chilling it became.

After all, the survivors of the Titanic were all wealthy elites, with the exception of the lower-class laborers and Jack, who had sneaked aboard.

If there had been only one or two accidental deaths, one might have dismissed it as coincidence.

But in the past few months, over a thousand such "accidents" had occurred, all involving Titanic survivors. Anyone with a modicum of sense would have noticed something was amiss.

During this time, Rose and Jack had heard rumors and even encountered several "accidents" themselves.

Fortunately, they were both tough and survived with only minor scares.

But Rose's former fiancé, Carl, wasn't so lucky.

Ever since Jack had stolen Rose's heart, Carl had harbored a deep resentment and constantly sought to trouble Jack.

However, he temporarily suppressed his anger because Jack and Rose had joined the Monarch Organization.

But as the Time Variance Authority implemented the "Death God Project," more and more people died in bizarre accidents, sometimes dragging their loved ones down with them. As a result, the former survivors began to be seen as bad omens by others.

Driven by self-interest and a sense of responsibility to the Monarch Organization, Dr. Randa waved his hand and had Jack and Rose arrested.

After all, the Monarch Organization was at the height of its power and didn't need two amateurs.

Such was the brutal nature of the capitalist world.

Upon hearing the news, Carl was overjoyed. Without delay, he gathered a group of men and set out to teach Jack a lesson, to show him the harsh realities of society.

But just as they spotted the dejected Rose and Jack, a cat fell from the sixteenth floor, landing squarely on Carl's head.

*Thud!*

The offending feline made a swift getaway, completely unscathed. Carl, however, suffered a fractured cervical vertebra and lay clinging to life.

The sudden turn of events caught Jack and Rose completely off guard.

Carl's men scrambled in panic, fumbling to call an ambulance.

The ambulance arrived quickly, and the seriously injured, unconscious Carl was placed on a stretcher.

But as they loaded him into the ambulance, the doctor carrying the front of the stretcher, distracted, didn't notice his elbow bump a hook on the vehicle. His arm went numb, and the stretcher slipped from his grasp.

*Crash!*

Carl's head struck the ground. He had been barely clinging to life, but this final indignity extinguished it completely.

His death was utterly pathetic.

For Jack, Carl's demise was a stroke of good fortune.

But Jack couldn't bring himself to be happy.

Because none of them knew who would be next.

In the days that followed, Rose and Jack lived under the shadow of death, their days filled with constant anxiety.

Meanwhile, after being fired from the Monarch Organization, they lost their only source of income.

Rose had already cut ties with her family after eloping with Jack. Jack, a struggling artist, was too preoccupied with his daily fears to even think about painting.

With no financial resources, they lived on the brink of starvation, often going three days without a proper meal. There was no room for romance, and no way to sustain it!

Jack was relatively well-adjusted; he had always been poor and was accustomed to hardship.

Rose, however, was a pampered young lady from a wealthy family, accustomed to luxury and comfort. She had never experienced such hardship before.

At first, Rose found a certain novelty in this life. But as time passed, physical discomfort gradually gave way to psychological distress.

Sweet words and solemn vows might be moving, but they couldn't fill an empty stomach!

Under the pressure of life and death, the once passionately in love couple began to clash constantly, their nerves frayed by even the most trivial matters.

When you love someone, even their nose-picking seems elegant.

But when you start to loathe them, even their breathing becomes an offense.

Life isn't just about poetry and distant horizons; it's mostly about the mundane realities of daily existence—food, shelter, clothing, and transportation.

Love is a powerful force, capable of making those in the throes of passion abandon everything, even their lives, without hesitation.

But "love" can fade.

True love might withstand the blade, but it can be gradually eroded by the relentless grind of everyday life.

Sometimes, people are swept away by love, like moths drawn to a flame, throwing themselves into it recklessly.

But how long can such passion last?

After the Time Variance Authority canceled the "Death God Project," Rose and Jack were fortunate to survive. Yet their love had already reached its end.

The shadow of their unexplained near-death experience would haunt them for the rest of their lives.

Whether this was a blessing or a curse, it's hard to say.
