Chapter 260 -  Shaping the Heart in Reverse

Every piece of common sense, every belief, every foundation of their worldview was being shaken to its core.

Naruto looked at their hollow expressions. There was no triumph on his face—only a heavy exhaustion, as if he carried the weight of the entire world… and a faint, almost pitying sorrow.

"Does it sound absurd? Impossible to accept?" he asked quietly, his voice low but piercing.

"That's normal. Because you—and nearly everyone in this world—have been immersed in the concept of chakra since birth."

"You breathe it. Use it. Depend on it. You treat it as something innate—like your own limbs."

"But…"

His gaze sharpened, cutting through the haze of history.

"What if chakra wasn't native to this world?"

"What if… in some distant, forgotten era… it descended here?"

"What if its spread and inheritance were part of a carefully orchestrated, thousand-year-long… act of parasitism and modification?"

Each "what if" struck like a hammer against Sasuke and Neji's defenses—and shattered the bedrock assumptions of the entire shinobi world.

The projection felt like a vortex dragging everyone deeper.

"Impossible!" Sasuke shouted, veins bulging at his temple. "You're spouting nonsense! Chakra was spread by the Sage of Six Paths to create the Ninshū—to allow people to understand one another! That's the origin of our history!"

Neji said nothing, but his pale face and tight lips betrayed his unease.

Naruto smiled faintly.

"Yes. The Sage of Six Paths founded Ninshū and spread chakra."

He tilted his head slightly.

"So how did he spread it?"

The question caught them off guard.

Textbooks and legends said he traveled the world, teaching people to harmonize spiritual and physical energy.

But how?

"Chakra seeds," Naruto said.

The term made their hearts clench.

"To divide chakra is to plant a 'chakra seed' within someone."

"If that person has the talent and training, the seed takes root. It grows. They become capable of molding chakra themselves."

"Passed down through bloodlines. Guided through master and disciple. Resonating and expanding generation after generation."

A simple metaphor.

Too simple.

A seed.

What was truly planted?

And what would it ultimately grow into?

Naruto's tone shifted.

"Here's the real problem."

His voice dropped.

"If chakra allows people to sense emotions and share thoughts—if it's a bridge for 'mutual understanding'…"

He locked eyes with Sasuke and Neji.

"Then what about the reverse?"

"Could chakra be used to influence… interfere with… or even shape someone's heart?"

Silence detonated.

Sasuke felt as if struck by lightning.

Influence the heart?

Interfere?

Shape?

Indra.

That will embedded within his chakra—the ancient consciousness that once lingered in his blood.

Wasn't that proof?

Neji's blood ran cold.

If Indra and Asura's chakra carried not just power—but inclination…

Then what about the original "chakra seeds" themselves?

Asura's chakra leaning toward cooperation and inheritance.

Indra's chakra leaning toward individuality and dominance.

Across the shinobi world, panic erupted.

"Is he saying the Sage's chakra influences us?"

"Reincarnation doesn't just pass on power—but personality too?"

"Are we ourselves… or vessels carrying ancient imprints?"

"If chakra can shape our emotions… how much of our hatred, love, ambition, and belief is truly ours?"

Fear spread like wildfire.

This wasn't about an external enemy anymore.

It was about identity itself.

Inside the Hokage's Office, silence pressed down heavily.

Tsunade held her forehead, dizzy.

Hiruzen Sarutobi stared blankly ahead.

He remembered his unwavering faith in the Will of Fire.

His compromises.

His decisions regarding the Uchiha.

How much of his conviction had been truly his own?

Or had something older been whispering through generations?

Back in the crater, Naruto continued.

"You think your beliefs are pure."

"You think your choices are yours."

"But chakra links minds. It resonates. It transmits."

"Over generations, subtle tendencies accumulate."

"Conflict between Indra and Asura didn't end with them. It perpetuated."

He looked at Sasuke.

"You hated me from the beginning."

He looked at Neji.

"You were bound by fate before you were old enough to choose."

"What if chakra didn't just grant power?"

"What if it carried will?"

"And what if that will was never humanity's to begin with?"

The weight of that possibility pressed down on the world.

If chakra was a foreign system—

If it subtly molded thought—

Then the shinobi world wasn't just built upon it.

It was shaped by it.

From the inside out.

Naruto's voice turned almost gentle.

"I'm not destroying freedom."

"I'm trying to return it."

"If chakra can shape the heart…"

"Then removing chakra…"

"Is the only way to make sure the heart truly belongs to its owner."

The implication was terrifying.

A world without chakra.

No ninjutsu.

No Kekkei Genkai.

No reincarnated grudges.

But also—

No shared resonance.

No easy empathy.

No superhuman protection.

Just ordinary humans again.

Sasuke finally found his voice.

"You're assuming influence equals control."

"Having potential inclination doesn't erase choice."

Neji's breathing steadied.

"Even if chakra carries tendencies… we still choose."

Naruto's eyes narrowed slightly.

"And how many generations of 'tendencies' does it take before choice becomes illusion?"

That question lingered like poison in the air.
