Ema's
I sat in my first class of the day, but I was not really listening to anything the teacher said. My eyes kept drifting away from the front of the room. Again and again, my gaze landed on the third row by the window. That was where Lia always sat. Usually, she would be leaning back in her chair or doodling in her notebook while we whispered to each other. But today, her usual seat was empty. The chair looked strangely abandoned, and the surface of the desk was clean and untouched. My chest felt tighter with every passing minute of the lesson.
