Chapter 105 - Chapter 105: Stress Response, The Journey Ends

After descending the Eiffel Tower, they strolled along the Seine River and visited the Louvre Museum.

Amanda followed Hermione Granger and Mr. and Mrs. Granger, visiting all the famous sights in Paris.

She saw polluted rivers and relics that had been plundered from all corners of the world.

She saw the true nature of humanity, something never mentioned in books.

"Hermione," Amanda said flatly, thinking of the Seine River she had seen yesterday as they left the Louvre Museum, "I just ran a calculation."

Hermione, who was holding her hand, turned her head and looked at her suspiciously, "Calculated what?"

"Calculated whether Earth could develop more stably and sustainably if humans did not exist."

Amanda tilted her head to look at Hermione, her eyes filled with an inorganic indifference and coldness.

"The result is yes. Without humans, the planet's total resource consumption would decrease, and the harm caused by human factors like conflict and the greenhouse effect would also be reduced."

Hermione stopped walking and cupped Amanda's cheeks, "So?"

Amanda's vacant eyes blinked, "Therefore, the best conclusion is the disappearance of humanity."

"If humanity disappears, the future of resource depletion will naturally vanish, and the harm inflicted upon the Earth will be greatly reduced."

"This world will no longer have to experience everything my original world went through."

Taking a deep breath, Hermione suddenly felt a heavy burden pressing down on her shoulders.

The words she was about to speak might very well determine the future and direction of humanity.

"Amanda, you suffered greatly before."

Gently rubbing Amanda's cheek with her finger, Hermione gazed at her affectionately.

"Although you haven't fully developed emotions yet, I know that you feel disgust toward humanity and are filled with hatred for everything that happened."

Pointing toward the Louvre Museum in the distance, Hermione directly addressed the greed inherent in human nature.

"The fact that you reached this conclusion is logically sound to an extent, and no one has the right to blame you, including me."

"But why don't you consider this."

Hermione smiled and pointed to herself, "Me, Mum and Dad, Harry, Ron, everyone in Ravenclaw—we are all human, and we live in this world too."

"But we aren't like those people, are we?"

Amanda nodded mechanically. Indeed, according to the calculation, if the vast majority of people thought and acted like Hermione and her friends, the future of Earth with humans would be better than without them.

"But this is not enough to influence the calculation result. Reality will not follow this trajectory. That unknown variable in the equation will push all results back to the starting point."

"No! I promise it won't!"

Hermione closed her eyes and hugged Amanda, "Give me some time, okay? Give me some time, and I will work hard to make the world a better place."

"Give me time, give yourself time, and give humanity a little time."

"Don't deny everything from the start, just like you shouldn't easily deny yourself."

"Sometimes calculations cannot derive all outcomes."

Embraced by Hermione, Amanda felt the mental turmoil she had experienced since arriving in France gradually subside.

She didn't know why her thoughts drifted in that direction; she hadn't even actively tried to contemplate those issues.

But her mind, which felt like it was boiling, simply calculated on its own accord.

Formula after formula, result after result continuously appeared, and each one made her brain boil even more intensely.

This intensified a voice deep within her mind: destroy everything, destroy everything before anything happens.

She vaguely sensed that her state was wrong, so she used absolute rationality to suppress the mental turmoil and shared her conclusions with Hermione.

Sure enough, after talking with Hermione, the boiling sensation in her mind subsided.

She returned to her usual indifferent and calm demeanor and boarded the plane back to England with Hermione.

Sitting on the plane, Hermione looked at Amanda, who had her eyes closed, guessing that she must be reciting the contents of that book again.

To be honest, Amanda's words after leaving the Louvre Museum yesterday truly frightened her.

She was such a gentle and kind person subconsciously, yet she spoke such terrifying words.

She knew this was a sign that Amanda's emotions were awakening; she had started to hate.

Hating the things she had experienced, hating the evil in human nature that caused her to experience them.

Her benevolent nature made her worry about the future of this world; she didn't want everything she had gone through to reappear in this world's future.

Her meticulous calculations informed her that no matter what research she conducted, even if she solved the resource problem, she could not prevent that future.

Hatred, worry, helplessness—all these factors combined led her to the final conclusion.

To end everything before it arrived.

But luckily... this girl's nature truly is kind. Just comforting her and making a promise was enough to stabilize her.

Otherwise, Hermione truly dared not imagine what earth-shattering chaos Amanda could cause in this world once her magic became stronger and she reached adulthood.

Also breathing a sigh of relief along with Hermione was an Invisible Entity high in the distant sky.

Sure enough, this child has a strong Stress Response.

So many years of abuse and oppression caused her emotions to generate such a violent reaction just as they began to grow back.

This was only after seeing environmental pollution and the cultural plunder at the Louvre Museum.

If she had seen more... the Invisible Entity silently released a surge of energy, slowly repairing the cracks beneath Paris.

Others didn't know, but it did. If it weren't for the fact that Amanda's kind nature was still intact, prompting her to speak to Hermione in time.

Paris would have been completely flipped over and dropped from the sky yesterday.

"Looking" toward Hermione, the Invisible Entity "clasped its hands," thinking, 'It's up to you, Hermione Granger. You must steadily heal her.'

What you are facing now might very well be the fate of two worlds.

Back in England, Amanda and Hermione immediately received a letter from Harry.

As soon as Hermione put down her suitcase, she picked up the letter lying on the desk.

Seeing her read the letter, Amanda quietly and quickly unpacked her suitcase, organizing the laundry.

After putting away the items meant for the room and just as she was about to wipe the desk and mop the floor, she heard Hermione say, sounding both helpless and exasperated.

"Harry Potter! Causing trouble again... Honestly."

Amanda walked over, blinked, and asked mechanically, "Harry, what happened?"

Hermione closed her eyes in exasperation, "Harry's letter says he blew up his aunt, and now he's at the Leaky Cauldron in Diagon Alley."

She handed the letter to Amanda, "That aunt must have said or done something to Harry again."

"What a family, a whole family of nuisances."

Hermione tried to keep her language civil, "But Harry was impulsive; he might get punished."

Her tone was full of concern for her friend. Merlin, the Ministry of Magic strictly forbids Young Wizards from using magic during the holidays.

Who knows what the consequences of Harry using magic will be, but thankfully, judging from Harry's letter, the Ministry of Magic doesn't seem to be planning anything against him.

Amanda quickly finished reading the letter, and based on Harry's personality and his act of blowing up his aunt, she immediately drew a conclusion.

"Given Harry's personality, if she had only insulted him, he wouldn't have reacted this way."

"The most likely possibility is that his aunt made some inappropriate remarks about his parents."

"Then she deserved it." Hermione's face instantly turned cold, and any thought she had that Harry was a little impulsive vanished immediately.

If she really insulted his parents right in front of Harry, then whatever Harry did to his aunt was not excessive.

"I'll write Harry back. How about we go to Diagon Alley tomorrow? We can buy our books then."

Hermione picked up the other two envelopes on the desk and shook them; they were the new school year booklists sent by Hogwarts.

"Okay." Amanda replied in a flat tone, watching Hermione write the reply.

At the same time, she took the envelope addressed to her, opened it, and carefully checked the titles on the booklist.

After Hermione finished writing, she used the Owl they had rented before the holidays to send the letter to Harry. She turned around and saw Amanda reading the booklist.

"How is it? There aren't any titles similar to Lockhart's books, are there?"

"No." Amanda shook her head expressionlessly.

"That's good," Hermione let out a huge sigh of relief, then opened her own booklist to examine it carefully. "the monster book of monsters?"

"Required for Care of Magical Creatures class? That title is a bit strange."

Hermione scratched her head, then stopped dwelling on the book's slightly odd name. She picked up a pen and marked all the books she needed on the list.

Amanda looked at the booklist in her hand, guessing the content based on the titles and corresponding courses.

When choosing electives at the end of the last semester, she had originally wanted to take every class, believing that studying required full effort, achieving the best, and that no knowledge should be abandoned.

However, this choice was jointly vetoed by the three senior students: Penelope, Cho Chang, and Marietta Eckmore.

Ravenclaw has "mass-produced" top students for many years, and quite a few people have chosen to take all the classes.

Thus, they knew what was required to take all the classes: a time-turner.

A powerful magical item that can manipulate time—useful, but extremely dangerous.

Risking one's life to use a time-turner for just a few classes was clearly not worth it.

Furthermore, some of those electives were completely unnecessary for Amanda to take.

Muggle Studies. Currently, the Wizarding World's understanding of Muggles is still stuck in the Middle Ages.

Amanda already knows a lot about Muggles, both in this world and her original one, so she absolutely doesn't need to take this extremely outdated class.

Divination. This class relies too much on talent, and Professor Trelawney, the Professor, also seems a bit unreliable, so it holds little value for taking.

After the three seniors' analysis, combined with Hermione saying she wanted to take electives with Amanda when she woke up and chose her schedule.

This completely convinced her to give up Muggle Studies and Divination Class, making her timetable look normal.

Hermione and the three seniors all breathed a huge sigh of relief about this; none of them wanted Amanda to push herself too hard.

And obviously, studying using a time-turner definitely fell into that "pushing too hard" category.

After a night's rest, when they arrived at Diagon Alley the next day, Hermione looked pale and needed Amanda's support to recover for quite a while.

Amanda pulled a Coke out of her bag and handed it to Hermione, "Have some, it will help a lot."

"Thanks." Hermione rubbed her chest, took the Coke, and guzzled a large mouthful.

She covered her mouth and burped several times before finally suppressing the feeling of nausea.

The knight bus... riding it is truly unbearable. If it weren't faster than the Subway, Hermione would have taken the Subway.

Once she had recovered sufficiently, Amanda followed Hermione into the Leaky Cauldron.

Upon arriving at the Leaky Cauldron again, Amanda's eyes quickly scanned everything inside.

It was no different from the last time she visited, she quickly concluded.

"Hermione, Amanda, over here."

Harry swallowed the fried egg in his mouth and waved at the two girls.

"Good morning, Harry."

Amanda and Hermione walked over together, sat down, and greeted him.

"Good morning," Harry nodded with a smile, "Have you two had breakfast yet?"

"We have." Amanda said in a voice as deep and steady as a dark pool.

"Harry, why did you... why did you blow up your aunt?"

Hermione looked at Harry, hesitant, but finally asked the question.

Harry didn't mind Hermione's question, but his face showed his displeasure toward the Dursley family.

"She insulted my parents."

"Amanda was right," Hermione sighed. "She absolutely deserved it. Well done, Harry, and luckily you weren't punished."

"I know," Harry shrugged. "I was wondering myself why I didn't get any punishment."

"I thought there would at least be a warning."

"But Hermione, what did you just say Amanda guessed correctly?"

"Amanda said that given your personality, you wouldn't likely do that to your aunt just for insulting you, so the most likely scenario was that she insulted your parents." Hermione briefly explained Amanda's analysis.

Harry thought carefully about what he would do if his aunt only insulted him... He rubbed his nose and nodded, "Amanda is right. If she had only insulted me, I probably would have just ignored it."

"Although I've said it before," Harry looked at Amanda with admiration and awe, "Amanda's analytical and thinking ability is truly amazing."

"Thank you for the compliment. I still have many shortcomings."

Amanda nodded without any change in her expression.

After finishing breakfast, Amanda and Hermione followed Harry into Diagon Alley.

As Harry led the two toward the bookstore, he spoke over his shoulder, "Ron also wrote to me yesterday. He'll be coming to Diagon Alley this afternoon."

"If you two aren't in a hurry to leave, you can see him this afternoon."

"That's fine," Hermione nodded. "We don't have anything urgent."

"Great." Harry gave an okay sign.

Following behind Hermione and Harry, Amanda's gaze kept drifting toward a corner not far behind them.

In that dark corner was a large black dog that had been following them ever since they entered Diagon Alley.

It had been following them continuously and was now almost at the bookstore.
