"If you went into labor today," Dr. Martinez explained during rounds, "we would attempt to save Daniel. His chances wouldn't be great, maybe 30-40% survival with significant risk of complications but he'd have a chance."
Emma stared at her barely visible bump, processing. Twenty-two weeks. Daniel could potentially survive outside her body now, though the cost would be steep—months in the NICU, possible disabilities, a lifetime of complications.
But a chance.
For the first time since losing Sarah, Emma allowed herself to feel a tiny spark of hope. Not much. Just enough to get through another day.
