Chapter 69 - Chapter 69: Willing to Let You Live Off Me 18+

My wife had never drunk this much before. She was heavily intoxicated, vomiting and babbling incoherently for most of the night before finally falling asleep.

The next day when I got up for work, my wife was still sound asleep. It looked like she wouldn't even be able to go to work today.

I sighed, personally cooked breakfast for her, placed it by the bedside, and then left for the office.

By the time I arrived at the company, it was already 9:30—a full half-hour late. Strangely, Wang Di didn't scold me at all. Instead, she smiled and greeted me.

Naturally, I wasn't going to invite trouble, so I smiled back and quickly returned to my office. At the same time, I reminded myself to keep my distance from her. This woman's attitude toward me was too unusual, and I didn't want to get into any trouble.

As soon as I turned on my computer, QQ started flashing. "Night's Prince" had sent several messages asking why I hadn't replied on WeChat.

Last night, I had been too busy taking care of my wife to even look at my phone. I took out my phone and opened WeChat, only to see that Night's Prince had sent several messages around 2 a.m., saying he had added my wife but she hadn't accepted yet. He also asked if I had added his girlfriend.

I shook my head. Sending messages at 2 a.m.? Do young people nowadays stay up this late?

I replied to him, explaining that my wife had been drunk and suggesting he try adding her again today. I also told him I was a bit busy lately and would add his girlfriend once I had sorted things out.

I needed to deal with Liao Wen's matter first. Besides, I felt the difficulty of the exchange lay with my wife. As long as he could charm her, dealing with his girlfriend would be a piece of cake. After all, she was just a student and wouldn't be hard to fool.

About half an hour later, my WeChat chimed. It was a message from my wife: "The breakfast was delicious. Thank you, hubby."

Less than two minutes later, Night's Prince sent a message saying my wife had accepted his friend request. I emphasized once again: "Only charm her physically, not emotionally."

Night's Prince gave me all sorts of assurances and then excitedly said he was going to chat with my wife.

I felt a bit uneasy, as if I had sold my wife, but at the same time, I couldn't help feeling a strange excitement. The sensation was thrilling.

The boring day passed quickly. When I returned home, my wife was sitting on the sofa, dressed neatly and clearly having put in some effort to look good. She was dressed rather formally.

"Where are you going? Are you accompanying Li Ke to see that Lin Feng again?" I frowned.

"No, hubby. Lin Feng has already left. It was just an excuse I made because he was leaving Yuncheng. I said I wanted to thank him for supporting our company, so I managed to arrange a meeting with him." My wife stood up, brought over a suit she had prepared earlier from the sofa, and urged me to change into it.

"Then what's this for?" I asked.

"Yesterday, you wanted to treat me to dinner, but it got delayed because of Ke Ke. Today, I'm treating you—to make it up to you and thank you for taking such good care of me last night," my wife said with a smile.

"At least you have a conscience," I said, snatching the suit and changing into it right there in the living room.

My wife took me directly to the city's most upscale Western restaurant. Not only did she reserve a private room, but she also ordered a bunch of ridiculously expensive dishes. I roughly estimated that this meal would cost several thousand yuan—probably more than my monthly salary.

"Nannan, how much is this meal going to cost? Isn't it too extravagant?" I whispered.

My wife shot me a glance, her eyes tinged with reproach, and said helplessly, "Honey, we're a couple. Why do you always keep such a clear account with me? What's mine is yours, isn't it? Your wife can earn money and is happy to spend it on you. Why can't you just spend freely? What's with all the penny-pinching?"

"Well, in that case, I won't stand on ceremony. There's actually something I need your help with," I said. Since she put it that way, I figured I might as well take the opportunity to bring up Liao Wen's situation.

So, I explained in detail how my father had asked me to help arrange a job for Liao Wen.

My wife suddenly burst out laughing and said cheerfully, "You say your dad is stubborn, but aren't you just as stubborn? Your dad swore he'd never set foot in our home, and for over six years, he hasn't come once—not even letting your mom visit. And look at you—for over six years, you haven't spent a single cent of my money. You two are cut from the same cloth, putting pride before comfort."

I was momentarily speechless. Hearing her say that, it did seem to make sense. In a way, my temper was exactly like my father's.

"Nannan, what do you think about this…?" I asked softly.

"It's simple. After all, he's a master's graduate, so it won't be hard to arrange. But, honey, you have to promise me something first," my wife said.

"Okay, okay, tell me," I nodded repeatedly.

"From now on, let's not keep our finances separate anymore. Dividing things so clearly makes it feel like we're two separate families. If you don't agree, then you can go be stubborn with your dad. I'd actually love to see which of you is more stubborn," my wife said, covering her mouth as she laughed.

"But then I'd really be living off you," I said with a pained expression.

"Oh, honey, it's been six years. Can't you get past this? What matters is that we're happy together. Why overthink it? Besides, what's wrong with living off me? I'm happy to let you do it for the rest of your life. Who does it bother?" my wife said, wrinkling her nose.

I gritted my teeth, hesitating. What she said made perfect sense, and I agreed with it, but I just couldn't get past the mental hurdle.

"Well… alright then," I said through gritted teeth. No matter what, I'd deal with the immediate issue first and then slowly convince myself.

Hearing my agreement, my wife instantly lit up like a child, eagerly cutting my steak and pizza for me, her enthusiasm overflowing.

"By the way, did Li Ke manage to win over Lin Feng?" I asked.

"No, she didn't even get his phone number," my wife said with a laugh.

"Then why was she so excited? Look at how drunk she got you last night," I grumbled.

"That's just Ke Ke's personality. She was over the moon just having a meal with her crush. Before Lin Feng left, he said if he ever had the chance to come back to Yuncheng, he'd treat us to a meal. Ke Ke was so thrilled she dragged me out to drink and celebrate," my wife explained, still smiling.

I shook my head helplessly. Li Ke's carefree nature was truly something else.

Suddenly, I remembered the Prince of the Night and tentatively asked, "Nannan, what did you do at home today? Did you chat with anyone?"

My wife rolled her eyes at me and said, "Is the jealousy flaring up again? I really haven't been chatting with Brother Liu."

"I didn't mean it that way. It's just that when you said you'd let me live off you for the rest of my life, I was so moved that it suddenly clicked. You're giving me everything without holding back—how could I still have any doubts? Chat with whoever you want; I trust you," I said, brushing it off.

"Well, you said it. There actually was a cute guy who added me today. I was afraid you'd get upset, so I just exchanged a few polite words and ignored him. Since you put it that way, I'll go chat with him now—don't get jealous," my wife replied, covering her mouth with a laugh.

"No jealousy, as long as you don't run off with anyone," I chuckled.
