Chapter 67 - Chapter 67: A Possible Solution

This little guy calling himself "Prince of the Night" had piqued my curiosity, so I started chatting with him.

Me: How old are you?

Prince of the Night: My girlfriend and I are sophomores in college, twenty years old.

Me: Getting into this kind of stuff at such a young age?

Prince of the Night: Never tried it before, just curious.

Me: Your girlfriend is so pretty, you should cherish her. This isn't something for people your age. You should focus on studying and improving yourself.

Prince of the Night: I really want to try swapping. My girlfriend doesn't know yet, so I was thinking of joining as a single male first. I've asked a lot of couples, but none of them accept. Brother, can you let me join you once?

Me: You're thinking too wishfully. No one would agree to such a lopsided deal, and I can't accept it either.

Prince of the Night: Oh, I see. Looks like I'll have to bring my girlfriend along after all. But she's pretty introverted, and I don't dare bring it up directly.

Me: That's your business, I shouldn't interfere. But I still think you're too young for this. Go study. I have things to do.

Prince of the Night: Don't go, brother! I really want to experience it. I have an idea—can you help me out?

Please.

Me: What idea?

Prince of the Night: Brother, I'll give you my girlfriend's WeChat. You add her and try to seduce her, make her like you. Then I'll come clean to her, and maybe it'll work out.

This guy really could come up with anything. I shook my head and smiled, about to refuse outright, when I suddenly thought of my wife. A flash of inspiration struck me—this might actually be a solution.

I pondered it carefully in my mind, and the more I thought about it, the more feasible the kid's idea seemed. So I quickly replied: Then you have to help me with something too.

Prince of the Night: Sure, sure, brother! Whatever you need, just say it. As long as you're willing to let me join, I'll do whatever you ask.

I laughed at the kid's pitiful demeanor. I'd been that age once too, and I understood the curiosity and longing for sexual games during adolescence.

I sighed and replied, "Taking you along depends on whether you have the skills. My wife isn't open to new swaps right now. If you want to try your method, add my wife on WeChat. If you can charm her, there might be a chance. If you can't, then there's nothing I can do."

Prince of the Night: "Really? That's great, brother! I'm willing to give it a try. I'm confident I can make your wife like me."

Me: "Get lost. You can only flirt with her physically, not emotionally. You have to make her accept the swap without falling for you, or this is off the table."

Prince of the Night: "I understand, I understand. I'll definitely find a way to stir up your wife's hormones."

On a whim, I agreed to this kid's idea, but I still felt hesitant. After all, letting another man flirt with my wife was risky. What if she ended up developing feelings for him?

Watching Prince of the Night continuously sending messages on the computer, I couldn't make up my mind. I decided to smoke a cigarette to calm down and think it over.

I picked up a cigarette and headed to the smoking area. As I enjoyed the numbing effect of nicotine, I pondered the feasibility of this plan.

After much thought, I decided it was worth a try. I trusted the bond between my wife and me. If she could be so easily swayed by some young guy, she would have been taken away long ago, wouldn't she?

Besides, if my wife showed even the slightest interest in this guy, I could immediately come clean with her, and maybe things would work out.

More importantly, the other party was just a student, driven by curiosity rather than ulterior motives, so there wouldn't be much risk in terms of safety.

Everything seemed suitable, so I finally made up my mind. I crushed the cigarette butt and returned to the office.

Prince of the Night, thinking I had changed my mind, had already sent over twenty messages, begging me repeatedly. He kept insisting he wouldn't involve emotions and praised his girlfriend endlessly, saying how wonderful and gentle she was.

His desperate demeanor made me laugh. Young people are so impatient—no wonder the experienced couples in the group ignored him. He was far from mature, and those seasoned players would never take him seriously.

I didn't reply to his messages. Instead, I sent him my WeChat ID. In less than ten seconds, my phone rang.

I opened WeChat and accepted his friend request. His profile picture showed a handsome young man with sharp features, a clean buzz cut, and a confident look. No wonder he managed to land such a beautiful girlfriend.

Judging from the photo alone, they were a perfect match—a couple that would make every lonely soul on campus envious.

Prince of the Night: "Brother, this is my girlfriend's WeChat. She's a bit shy, so please be patient with her."

As soon as we connected, he eagerly sent me his girlfriend's WeChat contact.

I sent him my wife's WeChat as well and emphasized again: "Only physical flirting. If I find out you're trying to involve emotions, I'll block you immediately."

The kid was immediately intimidated and promised repeatedly that he wouldn't bring emotions into it. He even pledged to send me the chat logs with my wife every day. Only then did I share my wife's WeChat with him.

Just then, my phone rang—it was my father calling.

I quickly sent a reply to the Prince of the Night saying I was busy and would contact him later, then closed WeChat and answered the call.

My relationship with my father isn't great, and he rarely calls me. Whenever he does, it's always because something's up.

Sure enough, after a few awkward pleasantries, he got straight to the point: "You know, your second uncle's third nephew's youngest son from the east end of the village just graduated with a master's degree and can't find a satisfactory job. He came to me for help, hoping you could lend a hand."

My head started spinning. Second uncle? Third nephew? I had no idea who he was talking about.

That's just how it is in the village. Everyone lives in the same place, so even if there's no real connection, they'll find a way to create one. People who aren't relatives will go to great lengths to claim some distant kinship, and the more they try to connect the dots, the messier the relationships become.

When older folks introduce someone to the younger generation, they always use descriptions like "your so-and-so uncle's such-and-such person." Almost no young person can make sense of it.

Our village is especially like this. Almost everyone shares the surname Liao, and the tangled web of relatives is even more confusing. If you trace it back a dozen generations, maybe there's some relation, but by our generation, even a blood test probably wouldn't show any connection.

"Dad, just tell me the name. All this talk of second uncles and third nephews—how am I supposed to know who you mean?" I said irritably.

"It's that guy, Liao Wen. The one who used to follow you around when you were kids. When he got bullied, you helped him fight back. He even came to your wedding. Remember now?" my father said.

"If you'd said that from the start, I would've known. Why bother with all that second uncle, third nephew nonsense?" I grumbled.

"As long as you remember. Well, Liao Wen graduated with a master's degree this year and can't find a job. He brought gifts to our house, and I agreed to help. You figure something out," my father said.

"You really are my biological father. Don't you know what your son is capable of? How am I supposed to arrange this?" I was instantly furious. How could he just agree to something like this without thinking?

This is just setting me up for failure.

"I'm not counting on you. Have Su Nan arrange it. She's been part of the family for years, and I've never asked her for anything. This time, let her do something to make our Liao family proud. It'll give me more face in the village," my father said before hanging up, leaving me no chance to refuse.
