Starday , 2020 AD.
Dearie me,
"Fuckkk the day I was born!"
Daniel grew up in a house where people would rather eat dog shit than say his name.
Sometimes, their silence felt like mercy to him, cos' it was better than the words they said to him.
"Love isn't absent in this god-forsaken family… It's not just for me. Do you any idea what it feels like to sit at a table full of people and still not be seen?"
Well, yeah! That was his reality.
"I know I'm not the talented one, and I not smart either. But really, I don't deserve this."
Daniel was something worse— irrelevant.
In his family, a person's worth is measured in results, by what he or she has achieved. And your guess is right … he had none!
"Everytime I'm compared, something in me changes. Everytime, "Why can't you be like—"
Yeah. He heard it so many times till those words stopped hurting him. They became… just words.
"Okay, this stops. I'm done. Cos' tell me, what exactly is the point of trying to be someone when nobody wants you around?"
Daniel hasn't always been against birthdays because they reminded him that he is a year closer to dying…
"At least, some goodnews. I'd be a year closer to death's cold embrace next weekend."
But, his 21st birthday was very different. It broke him totally.
"My Father has always preferred and loved my twin brother over me. And with every breath i take, I keep trying to prove to him that I also deserved his love…but no more."
He thought he was strong. Like he had finally grown this thick skin that nothing could pierce.
Well, jokes on him… It turns out that he just hadn't been hit hard enough yet.
