However, a day had already passed by this time, and the female lead had returned to normal; she was no longer the one possessed by the male lead's soul.
As she ladled out rice, she muttered, "Am I eating too much? Oh well, it doesn't matter..."
Seeing this, her grandmother couldn't help but say, "You're quite normal today."
"Yesterday was truly terrible," her sister teased with a smile.
"Wait, what are you talking about?" the female lead asked, confused.
The sound of the radio came on—it was the town office's morning announcement regarding the mayoral election. Before it could finish, however, her grandmother unplugged the radio.
The female lead picked up the remote and turned on the television.
The TV was broadcasting news about a comet that appears once every 1,200 years, stating that it was finally arriving in a month.
After breakfast, the female lead returned to her room, braided her hair, tied it with a hairband, and then went out.
Next, the camera continued to focus on the female lead, detailing her situation, such as her two good friends, Sayaka and Tesshi, with whom she had a very close relationship.
It also showed that she had a father who was the mayor, giving a speech early in the morning to campaign for the election. Her father was very strict; seeing her walking with her head down, he scolded her in front of everyone.
Also, regarding her sister saying "yesterday was really terrible," she hadn't thought much of it at first, but according to her friends Sayaka and Tesshi, she had been acting very strangely at school yesterday—some even suspected she was possessed by a fox spirit or had fallen under a spell.
When she arrived at school, the teacher mentioned that yesterday, she couldn't even remember her own name, and there was a page in her notebook that read: "Who are you?"
It wasn't clear whose handwriting it was, but it definitely wasn't hers.
She suspected Tesshi might have written it, but then thought that didn't seem right either.
Afterward, the narrative described the situation in Itomori, where the protagonist lives: small and cramped, with trains only arriving every two hours, convenience stores closing at nine, no bookstores or dentists, only two pubs, no job opportunities, no one willing to marry into the town, and limited sunshine.
A café?
Of course, that didn't exist either.
Only canned coffee was available from vending machines.
In short, it was so inconvenient that the protagonist had only one thought: hurry up and graduate, leave this town, and go to Tokyo.
However, the protagonist had another concern: her family ran a shrine, she and her sister were shrine maidens, and they had to perform the ritual dance on the night of the festival.
Originally, the ceremony placed a great deal of pressure on the main character. To make matters worse, she was seen by her classmates while preparing the kuchikamizake according to tradition, and was gossiped about as a result.
Her sister didn't care at all, but the main character felt deeply embarrassed.
After the ceremony ended, she changed her clothes and left the shrine. Standing under the main gate, she shouted towards the distance: "I'm sick of this place! I'm sick of this life! Please let me be a handsome guy in Tokyo in my next life!"
And then,
It seemed as if a god had heard her troubles and granted her wish.
When she woke up, she was already in Tokyo.
More precisely, she was in the male lead's body. However, at that moment, she didn't know the male lead at all, nor did she realize her wish had been granted; she just felt as if everything were a dream.
After breakfast and changing her clothes, she went out. Like a country bumpkin in the big city, she took in the bustle of Tokyo with a mixture of curiosity, excitement, and thrill.
Because she didn't have the male lead's memories, she got lost after leaving the house and didn't find his school until noon.
Later, when interacting with the male lead's two friends, she caused some humorous situations, such as using feminine pronouns for herself and speaking with a dialect accent.
At the cafe, looking at the menu, she sighed: "The price of one pancake could last me a whole month!" This made the Male Lead's friends retort: "What era are you from?"
Although it was very expensive, the Main Character thought that it was a dream anyway, so she didn't worry about it, ordered dessert, took pictures, and dug in.
Afterwards, she received a message on her phone saying that she was late for her part-time job.
The Male Lead's two friends didn't think much of it and just urged her to go quickly. Then, she stood up and asked embarrassedly: "Where is my part-time job?"
On one hand, it's the Male Lead's body, and on the other, the Main Character's soul—unfamiliar and without memories—this creates a strong contrast and leads to many humorous situations, which is very interesting to watch.
However, the Main Character doesn't just make a fool of herself. At the place where she works part-time, when someone caused trouble, it was Senior Okudera from the restaurant who helped resolve it.
Although they successfully resolved the issue by waiving the bill for the troublemaker, the Senior's skirt was slashed by the troublemaker with a blade.
Then, the Main Character pulled the Senior into the back office and mended her slashed skirt, thereby gaining her favor.
When the part-time job ended and she returned home, she looked through the photos on the phone and discovered that the Male Lead seemed to have a one-sided crush on Senior Okudera.
Additionally, the Male Lead has a habit of writing a diary every day.
She wrote down what had happened that day in the diary on her phone, then suddenly remembered the "Who are you?" on her notebook. In a moment of thought, she picked up a pen and wrote her own name on her hand: "Mitsuha."
After writing it, she yawned, lay down on the bed, and immediately closed her eyes and fell asleep.
In the promotions before the movie's release, it had already been revealed that the main characters would swap lives in their "dreams," which had piqued the interest of many viewers. However, what Shiga Taka hadn't expected was that the actual content was far more interesting than he had originally hoped.
Although the screening had only just begun, it already gave him the feeling that it was very good, making him look forward to what was to come even more.
