L.S. Produ, Conference Room
Lin Zhiyan summoned all the Production Assistants and Production Managers from the company.
As the meeting began, he first praised everyone for their recent efforts before introducing the agenda:
"You're all familiar with the TV anime adaptations of Shakugan no Shana by J.C. Staff and The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya by Kyoto Animation.
The light novel adaptation trend is now a dominant force in the industry. We must seize this opportunity to further develop our company, and that means your time to shine has come."
Previously, L.S. had only produced original animations, never taking on adaptation projects. All these original projects had been personally conceived by Lin Zhiyan himself, leaving the Production Assistants and Production Managers with no role in the planning stage.
Now that Lin Zhiyan had decided to have L.S. produce light novel adaptation anime, he naturally needed to train the Production Assistants and Production Managers, aiming to cultivate a few qualified producers.
When viewers watch an animation, they might remember the name of the Supervising Director or scriptwriter if the work is particularly outstanding, or the Character Designer if the character designs are striking. However, very few people bother to remember the producer's name, as it's generally only the die-hard animation enthusiasts and industry insiders who pay attention to them.
In reality, however, the producer is the most crucial person in an animation company, even more so than high-level artists.
An animation company can survive without skilled artists, an Animation Director, or a scriptwriter, but it absolutely cannot survive without a producer. This is because the producer is responsible for the project's planning and overseeing the production process.
A capable producer can assemble an animation production team even if the company lacks internal staff, by recruiting talented directors, scriptwriters, and character designers from outside.
Right now, L.S. is in need of producers who can lead the creation of an entire animation. The current boom in Light Novel Adaptations provides an ideal opportunity for these production assistants and managers to gain practical experience.
After finishing his explanation, Lin Zhiyan continued, "For those of you in Production Assistant or Production Management who want to advance further, you can try developing light novel adaptation anime projects. Of course, I'll be very strict with the quality control. I'm just giving you an opportunity to see if you want to seize it."
As soon as he finished speaking, someone in the conference room couldn't resist asking, "President, will you be the Supervising Director for these light novel adaptation anime?"
"Absolutely not," Lin Zhiyan replied, shaking his head.
If he were to personally serve as the Supervising Director, there would be no need for these people to strive.
If they simply used his name to deceive others, they could easily secure the adaptation rights for a light novel. That would be completely counterproductive and pointless.
The crowd in the conference room wasn't surprised by Lin Zhiyan's answer. Even though he had directly refused to be the Supervising Director for these projects, no one felt disappointed.
Soon, another question arose: "President, must we focus on light novel adaptation projects? What about game adaptation, manga adaptation, or original animation projects?"
"Game adaptation and manga adaptation projects are even better if someone has the ability to handle them. As for original animation projects, I personally don't recommend you try them," Lin Zhiyan answered earnestly.
In essence, he was currently in a world that had gone astray under his influence—a "Second Playthrough" world, not a parallel one. He could generally gauge which anime adaptation projects would succeed and which would fail.
Original anime projects were different. Who knew what kind of original anime concepts these people would come up with?
Of course, if an original anime concept seemed exceptionally promising and had a high chance of success, he'd be open to it. That's why he didn't completely rule them out.
Ultimately, everything would depend on the capabilities of the Production Assistants and Production Managers within the company.
After assigning the tasks, Lin Zhiyan gave some final instructions. Seeing that everyone had no questions, he decisively ended the meeting and returned to his office.
Since he wouldn't be serving as Supervising Director, Lin Zhiyan wouldn't be deeply involved in the adaptation anime projects, focusing instead on review and oversight.
As for the original anime he would personally supervise, there was no rush. He could take his time considering it—after all, there was still the new theatrical film for Puella Magi Madoka Magica to work on.
The new theatrical film was scheduled for release in October 2007, but because planning had begun so early, news about it surfaced shortly after the TV series concluded.
The TV series had a complete, self-contained narrative with a clean, decisive ending. When the announcement for the new theatrical film was made, many viewers were confused, even suspecting it was fake news or that they were calling a compilation film a "new" theatrical film.
Only after confirmation that it would be an entirely new story did people remember the post-credits scene from the final episode of the TV series.
While the story's nature remained unknown, the fact that it was a Puella Magi Madoka Magica theatrical film, personally helmed by Lin Zhiyan himself—not some cash-grab by others—instilled confidence in the audience.
Countless fans eagerly anticipated it, vowing to see it in theaters upon its release.
Whether the film would be a healing or a gut-wrenching story, Lin Zhiyan offered no hints, and the official animation account representing L.S. Produ remained tight-lipped.
At the end of the day, what the audience was more curious about wasn't whether the theatrical film would be healing or devastating, but what its plot would be.
How could they make it seem like more than just a cash grab?
If the Puella Magi Madoka Magica animation remained popular even after its conclusion, it would be easy to make another theatrical film to rake in money. All they'd need to do is introduce a new magical girl.
For example, they could tell the story of a rebellious new magical girl who, by chance, meets the remaining three members of the main cast. Their interactions would lead to conflict, and later, due to some event, she'd fall into despair. This despair would break her limits, and she'd emerge as the Law of Cycles...
If they made the plot more convoluted, gave Sayaka more screen time, and added a satisfying ending, it would be a commendable theatrical film that fit the title Rebellion Story.
With such a strategy, making a profit would be no problem.
However, although the animation official hasn't revealed detailed information about the new theatrical film, one thing is crystal clear: Madoka remains the main character.
This situation only fueled everyone's curiosity.
