I wanted to leave, I should've left ten minutes ago because the conversation was going nowhere except in circles and with Kai defending Sloane, and me trying to make him see reality but he'd ordered my usual coffee without asking and without me telling him what I liked. He'd remembered from last time and he looked genuinely concerned, not about Sloane but about Bryce and that made it harder for me to hate him.
"Is he going to accept it?" Kai asked.
"I don't know, he's thinking about it." I answered.
"And what did you tell him?"
"To refuse it, obviously."
"Even though it would help his mom?" Kai's voice was careful not to hurt my feelings or spike any more harshful words from me.
"Yeah, there are other ways to go about it without accepting anything from her." I told him.
"Are there?" he asked as he leaned forward slightly. "Because from what I understand, you're both working multiple jobs and it's not enough." he said and I went cold.
