Chapter 252 - As We All Know, Quetzalcoatlus Eat Airplanes

[Aerial Deterrence System Activated]

*Sound of flapping wings*

I am a Quetzalcoatlus.

Today, just like every other day, I soar through the skies.

However, I noticed there seemed to be a punk in the sky today who looked about seventy percent similar to me.

At first, I thought it was one of my own kind and was overjoyed, thinking my single days were finally coming to an end.

Who could have expected that this son of a bitch on the opposite side would peck straight at me, nearly tearing to shreds my elegant, magnificent, dashing, delicate-complexion-and-fine-skin, graceful-moth-eyebrow, gem-like-pure, handsome and suave wings?

At that moment, I finally understood that my true love is actually my wings. To protect my wings, from now on, I will strike first no matter what I see! The sky belongs to my wings and me... to just one of us?

"Roar—!"

Yet, there are exceptions to every rule.

Sound of crunching snow.

Carlo climbed up the snowy mountain, compressing the accumulated snow clinging to the ground firmly with every step he took, leaving behind a gigantic footprint.

"Kreeeeng!"

Gah! There's a giant! Don't hurt my wings, dammit!

The Quetzalcoatlus let out a piercing, shrill shriek. Carlo had caught the creature's scent quite early on, but this fellow had been darting back and forth in the sky, why had it suddenly landed now?

"Roar?"

Carlo inched closer to the other creature step by step, and the Quetzalcoatlus backed away step by step toward the edge of the cliff until it had nowhere left to retreat.

Why aren't you flying?

Carlo felt somewhat puzzled, but taking advantage of the opportunity, he lowered his body, observing the other creature with a gaze mixed with a hint of curiosity.

He hadn't spent much time interacting with pterosaurs; the first time was when he encountered a large group of small ones during the birdcage incident with the Indominus, and the second time was when he fed one to the pterosaurs while hunting the Scorpios.

But a Quetzalcoatlus was not among those pterosaurs.

So tall... Though it looks a bit slender, strictly speaking in terms of height, is it almost catching up to a Tyrannosaurus rex?

Come to think of it... It's been quite a while since I last saw that Tyrannosaurus rex. It seemed like I sent her some food before; I wonder if she still remembers me.

Before Carlo's colossal figure, the Quetzalcoatlus looked like a well-behaved canary, the kind that wouldn't even dare to come out of its cage.

"Kreennng..."

Stop voyeuristically staring at me...

The bone-chilling cold wind atop the snowy mountain battered the two beasts. Although Carlo blocked most of it, the little Quetzalcoatlus still felt a marrow-chilling coolness pierce through its core.

I feel like I should fly away, but for some reason, my brain won't let me.

Swish-swish—

Carlo straightened his body and shifted his footing slightly, disturbing some of the piled snow. Deciding not to pick on the Quetzalcoatlus beside him anymore, he turned his head to look into the distance.

The vast expanse of white snow and the undulating, identical mountain ranges were, to some extent, no different from a desert, making it very easy for a dinosaur to get lost.

Fortunately, the snow-mountain's blanket of snow varied in depth, and the exposed rock surface areas differed, helping Carlo discern his direction.

Hm?

Carlo had originally intended to back-track the humans' scent to where they came from, but he randomly spotted a dark-gray strip-like object nestled between two towering peaks.

That thing spanned across the valley, utilizing the difference in elevation to divide the frozen, long river… is that a dam?

Carlo pondered for a moment, lifting his head slightly to sniff the air twice. There was no human scent near the dam, but... perhaps that side was closer to his destination?

Actually, judging by Carlo's olfactory radar which could cover the entirety of Isla Nublar, he was already capable of picking up the scent of the forest at this moment. It was just that the gunpowder residue still lingering in his nasal passages from swallowing an artillery shell raw had somewhat diminished his sensitivity to scents.

"Roar…"

Bye-bye~

Carlo very politely bid farewell to the Quetzalcoatlus, though the creature not only couldn't understand him, but was also scared half to death by that single roar.

[Aerial Deterrence System Deactivated]

Sound of air tearing.

Taking advantage of the cliff's terrain, the Quetzalcoatlus launched itself into a vertical takeoff! Soaring through the air with an exceptionally graceful posture.

The head-on airflow attempted to disrupt its flight, but the Quetzalcoatlus didn't evade; instead, it began rotating its body along with the turbulent currents.

A 360-degree aerial roll later, the airflow grew calm. The Quetzalcoatlus pierced through the clouds, flapped its wings twice, and ascended into the higher blue sky!

"Kreeennng-roar!"

Hahaha! Who dares kill me? Who dares kill me?!

A massive shadow swept across Carlo's body. The latter raised his head, looking up at that tiny black dot in the sky.

It must be nice to be able to fly.

Lowering his head and gazing down at the steep slope, Carlo turned his body sideways, took a wide stride, pressed his right foot tightly against the cliff wall, bent his left leg slightly, and then gathered his entire body inward toward the direction of his right leg.

Swish—

His massive, towering physique slid down the slope, kicking up a long streak of white snow-waves. Viewed from a distance, the sight was undoubtedly as spectacular as a landslide.

Before long, Carlo reached the base of the mountain, closely followed in his wake by a small-scale avalanche.

Swish-swish...

The layers of snow frictioned and slid against one another, ultimately plunging down the mountain and coming to a halt right beside Carlo's feet.

Huummm—

What kind of punk noise is that?

Amidst the comforting sliding sound of snow that pleased the dinosaur's ears, a distinctly discordant sound suddenly rang out.

Carlo raised his head once again, looking back in the direction of the sound, and spotted a large... no, should it be a small transport plane?

Beep-beep, beep-beep, beep-beep...

The aircraft's control panel sounded an alarm, yellow text flickering on and off before the screen finally went dark and black.

"What is that?"

"Uh... that's the Aerial Deterrence System."

Owen and Claire were riding with Kayla Watts, the Black woman who had previously saved Claire's life.

Perhaps because she loathed human traffickers from the bottom of her heart, she was making an exception right now to give the two of them a ride, heading toward her employer's organization, BioSyn. But whatever happened after that was none of her concern.

"Why is it flashing lights?"

"Because the control tower turned off the Aerial Deterrence System! We have to—"

"Kreeennng-roar!"

The shriek from above the clouds echoed exceptionally far and eerily, though it vanished just moments later.

"Was that another plane... right?"

"Not quite."

The Quetzalcoatlus adjusted its position, keeping itself positioned just behind and to the side of the aircraft.

Hmph! Intruders trespassing into the territory of Lord Quetzalcoatlus, prepare to face my judgment!

The Quetzalcoatlus went into a direct dive, latching onto the back of the transport plane! Its slender, sharp beak unhesitatingly drove into the engine, and black smoke mixed with sparks instantly spewed out!

In its worldview, a flying creature's most vital asset was its wings, so that had always been its primary target of attack, only...

Carlo stood frozen on the snowfield, watching black smoke billow from the left engine of the plane, followed immediately by the right one.

Huh? Man, you're more hardcore than a T. rex; I've never even seen a T. rex gnaw on a plane.

At first, Carlo thought this plane was here to give him trouble, but looking at it now... it must have just been passing by?

No wonder the humans who captured him used a helicopter, turns out they were afraid the Quetzalcoatlus would accidentally swallow it.

Huummm—

Trailing black smoke, the transport plane slowly plummeted toward the direction of the dam. Feeling the intruder lose altitude and realizing it might have successfully crippled the opponent's wings, the Quetzalcoatlus spread its arms and took flight, returning above the clouds once more.

Today is peaceful within the territory as well... discounting that giant down on the ground.

Sound of crunching snow.

Black smoke streaked across the sky, as spectacular as a falling meteor. Carlo strode across the snow; the falling plane, the snow-covered mountain ranges, and the boundless blue sky together composed his backdrop.

Leisurely and beautiful... at least to a dinosaur.
