Chapter 42 - Chapter 42: Distant New Reality

It was dark, but then, everything blurred up, before revealing something.

A quiet day, or at least that was what he thought.

The streets were bustling.

She pulled him along.

He was short, clearly no more than six years old.

A language echoed in the air. It wasn't English but Korean, something he hadn't heard in a long time.

As the crowd pulled up, he finally tried to see who held his hand.

He looked up to see who it was.

But, then it vanished.

---

Night woke up covered in sweat.

"What was that...a nightmare"

It was hard to think, but when he calmed down a little, he felt something weird going on.

He was dressed in a blue tunic and fitted pants.

He was in a warm bed, and an unfamiliar room.

It made absolutely no sense.

Pushing my self off the bed , I stood up and tried to walk towards what looked like a mirror.

I was barefooted which made everything feel more bizarre. He took a step forward and then another, the moment he was about to look into the mirror, a knock echoed through the room.

Night's attention was diverted instantly. In the next moment, the door burst open, and a little girl jumped on him.

"Brother"

She said as she her face glimmering with joy.

Deep blue hair, pink eyes, and a soft and warm voice. No matter how much he tried to figure out what was happening but still, she felt familiar.

Night was completely puzzled on what to do next. But then, his body felt weird for just a moment. He felt like he said something but he didn't hear a thing.

She ran to the door, and left while saying,

"Mom's waiting for you"

Night went after her, walking down short stairs, night found it strange how he could easily find his way through the house.

The house was simple, it's interior felt strangely hold, not modern but something between Morden and ancient. Then he saw someone else as he walked into what seemed to be a dinning room...

Middle aged, with ink blue hair and pale black eyes, despite her aged look. She was nothing short of beautiful.

The moment she saw him, she called out a name, he couldn't hear it . Struggling with reality, night didn't realise the moment she got close and embraced him tight.

It was warm..calm, something he'd never really remembered.

Night did not realise it when he pushed her away, he sprinted towards a door.

The moment he bursted through the door, it was hard to believe what was before his eyes.

The layout of the world before him, it was just... exactly the same with the ruined city, it wasn't ruined but filled with life and prosperity.

No rubbles, no spawns. And most importantly, there was life brimming everywhere.

Runes popped up, alarming him instantly.

[Synchronization rate: 1%]

It made no sense, but looking at it made him wonder,

"What would happen when it reached 100"

A warm hand slipped into his hand, night looked back, her small eyes were teary, she asked with a shaky voice

"Brother, is something wrong "

Seeing her like that made him freeze, he thought instinctively.

"Was she real"

None of it made sense, thinking back to what happened before he woke up here, he knew he was on the verge of death.

Night stopped thinking. Then, bent and parted her head, saying;

"Sorry for scaring you, I just had a bad dream".

She smiled and ran inside.

Watching her walk, he could faintly remember what had happened before.

"I was on the verge of death, someone I knew almost killed me, right?"

.

.

"But then,"....he paused for a moment before saying, "I can't remember who"

---

Night recovered a bit of his composure, and soon found himself dinning with the person who was supposedly his mother.

He was wary, but it was easy to tell, none of them knew what was happening.

So he ate quietly, suppressing his urges to run and his thoughts on the situation.

His mother finally broke the silence.

"*#£@£, you seem different today"

Night felt his mind shake, the moment he heard the first word, he tried to figure why, but then his body moved without control again.

He spoke in return, in a different voice , with a different mind. He could not hear a thing, but he knew something was deeply wrong.

As the conversation went on, runes popped up before him.

[Synchronization rate- 2%]

While the sync rate went up, he could barely do anything, trying to stop it got harder and harder the higher the number became.

Right when it stopped at nine, night regained control over his body.

He felt sweat drip down his face, he stood up.

His mother who was smiling before stopped, sensing the change.

Night fumbled on his words has he managed to make an excuse as he left the house.

---

Night used his prior knowledge of the ruined city to navigate through the unknown sceneries.

He couldn't help but feel weird, trying to figure out what exactly was going on.

Everywhere he went, almost everyone knew him.

Trying to figure what was going on only made it harder to conceive.

All the information he could gather was, the area where he was currently in, was the central region, which meant...

There was a possibility of the underworld still existing.

Night found it hard to know where to go, since most of the paths he usually took were now blocked by buildings. He also found it an hassle to keep getting recognised by everyone around .

The moment the sync rate shot up to ten, he decided to go another way.

Night summoned his runes, and luckily his chronicles were still in place, nothing had changed except for a new trait that appeared.

[Delusioned]

It had no description and no use. So he ignored it for the time being, the moment he reached where the entrance was supposed to be, there was nothing other than a fountain.

Night walked towards it, ignoring everyone around him. The moment he got the the fountain, he searched around him . For something, a keyhole , a button or something else.

At that point, it was hard to keep his mind straight.

There was nothing other than barely visible runes,

so he resulted in another plan. Focusing on the aen around him , he tried to feel its flow.

There was a distinct flow hidden in the runes, the moment he tried to tamper with it, he felt himself get pulled by it.

The next moment, he found himself by familiar stairs and the hex's voice;

[You have discovered a lost gate- Grave of the lost moonlight]
