Chapter 10 - CHAPTER 10: Dead?

ARIANA'S POV:

At noon, I was sitting at a hilltop café It was the best café I had ever seen. The view was breathtaking, the hills, the open sky, the peaceful air. Everything felt perfect. Even the coffee tasted perfect.

After a while, I decided to go for a walk along the hills. As I walked, I noticed police officers gathered near the riverbank. Curious, I moved closer to see what had happened.

That's when I saw it.

A dead body.*

They were saying they had pulled it out of the river.

I stepped closer and then I froze.

My eyes widened in shock.

It was him.

My ex. The same person I had met yesterday.

The police noticed my reaction and asked if I knew him. I admitted that I did and told them everything, how I had met him the previous day. They took my number so they could contact me if needed for further investigation.

fter a few moments, I returned to the hotel and sat down, completely numb. I couldn't erase the image of his lifeless body from my mind. It was horrifying. Traumatic. The same person who had greeted me politely yesterday was now dead.

When Mykel came back and saw me sitting there in shock, he immediately looked worried and asked what had happened. I told him everything.

"Totally deserved."

"What do you mean?" I asked, staring at him.

"I mean, from what you told me yesterday about him, it was a deserved death."

"Even though he's my ex, that doesn't mean he deserved to die! What the hell are you talking about?"

"He wasn't just your ex. He broke you. He ruined you, love. I'm just saying… even though his death is shocking, it's not exactly undeserved. He deserved it. And why did you tell the police that you knew him?"

"Should I not have?"

"No… because you know how the police are. They'll keep annoying you in the name of investigation."

"I don't care. If even a small detail can help them, I'll tell them everything."

"Okay… do whatever you want" He kissed my forehead gently.

But I still couldn't believe what he had said. How could he speak like that? No matter what my ex had done, saying someone deserved to die especially when they were already dead, felt wrong.

---

The next day, I went to the police station to ask about my ex's case.

"That case? It's been closed," the officer said. "It was just an accident."

"Closed? But yesterday you said it didn't look like an accident. Now you're saying it was?"

"Yes. We investigated thoroughly and found no evidence of foul play. We have no choice."

"Oh… okay."

I didn't believe it.

But I had no proof. And no choice.

So I went back home, the uneasiness still sitting heavily in my chest.
