"Updated again?" Tony Stark put down his sledgehammer and wiped the dust from his goggles.
He looked like a construction worker who had lost a fight with a drywall, not a billionaire playboy.
"Yes, sir," Jarvis confirmed.
Tony walked over to the holographic display. "Let's see what our oracle has to say."
He read the entry.
[Snake Shield]
"Snake Shield again?" Tony squinted. "Is this a meme? A typo? Or a secret society with a terrible branding team?"
"Jarvis, scan the internet for 'Snake Shield'. And cross-reference with 'HYDRA', 'AIM', and 'Bad Guys Anonymous'."
"Searching," Jarvis replied. "No direct matches found. However, the term 'Snake' is often associated with deception and hidden enemies."
"Create a file," Tony ordered. "Label it: 'Snake Shield'. If Lucas mentions it, it's real. Even if it sounds like a bad fanfiction villain."
"Jarvis, get Fury on the line."
New Mexico. SHIELD Base.
Fury picked up the phone. "Tony. You saw it too?"
"Snake Shield," Tony said without preamble. "My analysis suggests it's not a typo. It's a rival organization."
"Think about it," Tony continued. "SHIELD. Snake Shield. It's like 'Mario' and 'Wario'. Or 'Coke' and 'Pepsi', if Pepsi was evil and tried to take over the world."
"And Lucas says they might 'make a move' early because of the news coverage," Tony added. "Which means they're active. They're watching."
Fury nodded slowly. "A dormant enemy. Waking up."
"Or maybe," Coulson interjected, "they never went to sleep. Maybe they've been here all along."
"Like a parasite," Fury muttered. "A snake in the grass."
The realization hit him. HYDRA. The old enemy of the SSR. Cap fought them in WWII. They were supposed to be destroyed. But snakes... cut off one head, two more grow back.
"Snake Shield," Fury whispered. "HYDRA inside SHIELD."
It was a terrifying thought. If his own organization was compromised... who could he trust?
"We need to be careful," Fury said into the phone. "This 'Snake Shield' might be closer than we think."
"Agreed," Tony said. "Now, about the hammer. Lucas says it contains a neutron star core."
"Is that scientifically possible?" Fury asked.
"In a magic hammer?" Tony laughed. "Anything is possible. Density, mass, gravity... magic laughs at physics."
"But if it's true," Tony mused, "that hammer weighs billions of tons. And yet, it sits on a coffee table without crushing it. That's... spatial manipulation? Mass negation?"
"It's magic," Fury said flatly.
He turned to Thor, who was munching on a pop-tart.
"Thor," Fury asked. "Is there really a neutron star in your hammer?"
Thor looked up, crumbs on his beard. "A what?"
"A star core," Fury clarified. "Super-dense matter."
"I don't know," Thor shrugged, his eyes wide with innocent ignorance. "The Dwarves made it. It hits things hard. It summons lightning. That is all I know."
Fury sighed. "Right. You're the user, not the engineer."
"Exactly!" Thor grinned. "I swing it. It goes boom. Simple."
"Okay," Fury rubbed his temples. "Back to the diary. Lucas mentioned something else."
[Besides Thor, there are a few who are worthy.]
[And then there's the guy who pretends he can't lift it...]
"Who is he talking about?" Fury asked the room.
"Someone strong," Coulson guessed. "Someone noble."
"Someone who doesn't want to show off," Hawkeye added.
"Steve Rogers?" Fury wondered again. "But he's on ice."
"Unless..." Fury looked at the map. "Unless there's another worthy soul out there. Someone we haven't met yet."
"Or maybe," Tony's voice crackled over the phone, "it's me. And I'm just being humble."
"You?" Fury snorted. "Humble? That's the real fantasy here, Stark."
"Hey!" Tony protested. "I can be humble! I'm the most humble person I know!"
"Whatever," Fury hung up.
He looked at the diary again.

[Secretly Worthy Guy]
"Two mysteries," Fury muttered. "And one headache."
"Thor," Fury commanded. "Finish your pop-tart. We have work to do."
"What work?" Thor asked.
"We need to find out who this 'Secretly Worthy' person is," Fury declared. "And we need to hunt some snakes."
