Chapter 137 - Chapter 137: Preparations Begin

For a computer to calculate and automatically counteract inertia to maintain balance, it requires data on a fixed external form.

As for systems capable of self-adjustment, they do exist, but the computational load involved already falls into the realm of AI.

The reason Lowe could pilot the Gundam directly as an ordinary person was because Little Eight assisted him with auxiliary calculations.

However, mass-producing Little Eight isn't practical. Not only is AI technology not that advanced, but even if it were possible, the costs would undoubtedly be higher.

"GINN is a mass-produced unit, not a prototype like the Strike Suit. Adding this feature would not only cause costs to skyrocket but also serve no meaningful purpose. Since everyone's quality will be the same in the future, what's the point of adding automatic calculations?"

"We're currently just confirming the R&D progress; there's no need to rush."

Fred shook his head.

His future subordinates hadn't arrived yet, and the design team was already working overtime, so he couldn't push them further.

Moreover, based on surveillance of the intelligence dealer, it seemed he was recently preparing for a smuggling operation to Mendel, and Creuset was likely involved.

So, Fred also needed to make a trip to Mendel during this time.

As for the GINN's external form, Fred remembered it, but only in broad strokes.

Being able to draw the structural details of an airplane just from seeing it fly would be nothing short of extraordinary.

However, he was quite interested in a versatile AI.

"First, let's finalize the calculation program and clarify the basic design redundancy for the Engine and Power Reactor."

As he spoke, Fred had already skillfully arranged the tasks ahead.

"Understood!"

Albert Heinlein responded loudly, his gaze toward Fred filled with even more curiosity than before.

Although he had known Fred's identity for some time, he still hadn't fully accepted it.

After all, the person before him was actually that Fred.

While he wasn't familiar with Fred's capabilities before coming to PLANT, one thing was undeniable: Fred was a Natural.

A Natural...

Just looking at him, Heinlein still felt a bit dizzy.

Was it really possible?

The reports that hailed him as the Atlantic Federation's rising star, which at first glance seemed like exaggerated propaganda for the masses, now appeared completely genuine to Heinlein.

It was like witnessing a myth come to life before his eyes.

"I'll likely be away for about three days. I'll leave things in your hands during that time."

Noticing Heinlein's dazed expression, Fred paid it no mind and continued.

Regardless of whether Heinlein knew his identity, Fred would carry on as usual, unconcerned about trivial matters.

After all, Heinlein wasn't the type to betray anyone.

With the work arrangements mostly settled, Fred calmly gave himself a three-day break.

Fred's voice snapped the young man out of his thoughts.

"Huh? Where are you going?"

Heinlein asked in surprise.

It wasn't that he enjoyed meddling in others' affairs, but based on his understanding, Fred was practically online twenty-four hours a day.

Fred was a workaholic who didn't lose to him in that regard.

Now, suddenly being told that Fred would be away for three days was indeed surprising.

"Just taking a break," Fred said with a laugh.

In reality, he was planning to go to Mendel.

However, he didn't intend to go into detail, nor did he know whether Siegel would succeed in persuading that Patrick.

"You said you want to borrow someone?"

Following Fred's train of thought, Patrick was currently frowning as he looked at Siegel on the screen.

"What for?"

"Work Pod improvements," Siegel explained.

There wasn't actually any rule specifying who Fred belonged to. The reason he came to mention it was due to Fred's importance.

If Fred disappeared for three days, it would definitely be impossible to hide it from Patrick.

It was better to come up with an excuse. For just three days, arranging for Fred to go to April City—within his own territory—should be manageable to keep it under wraps.

Upon hearing this, Patrick nodded in agreement.

"Alright."

He didn't think Siegel had any ulterior motives in borrowing someone.

After all, there hadn't been any major events recently.

Moreover, the research team members assigned to Fred hadn't been fully assembled yet, so there was a gap of a few days anyway.

"Keep him safe," Patrick said seriously.

"...I will."

Looking at his colleague before him, Siegel was somewhat surprised.

Generally, he would have assumed Patrick's words subconsciously meant to keep a close watch on Fred.

But now, based on Siegel's understanding of his friend, he genuinely seemed to detect sincere concern.

Still, it made sense. After all, Fred had his own charismatic personality.

Otherwise, how could he have so quickly brought Yzak and the others into line?

The longer one spent with him, the more one was drawn to his exceptional character.

Even so, the secrets surrounding Fred were indeed a bit too many.

Not to mention how he knew about Creuset's affairs,

even the matter with that information broker was the same.

How could he possibly know which information broker Creuset was working with? Wasn't that a bit too exaggerated?

His inexplicable intelligence, combined with the forces the Clyne family had been cultivating in secret, revealed immense potential.

But the source of his information remained completely unknown.

However, if things truly turned out as Fred had said this time, perhaps he could confidently deepen his cooperation with Fred.

Especially by probing for more possible intelligence from him.

With that thought, Siegel ended the communication.

Before he could even run through the plan in his mind again, Lacus had already knocked on the door of his study.

The crisp sound echoed in the room, causing Siegel to pause his movements.

"Come in."

As Siegel's voice fell, the door swung open.

"Father, I want to go too~"

Lacus walked in upon hearing his voice and got straight to the point.

"It's dangerous over there."

Siegel wasn't surprised, only a flicker of darkness passed through his eyes as he sighed and spoke.

"Lacus is still young."

It wasn't that it was impossible—after all, his daughter would grow up eventually, and she needed experiences to mature.

But that place was different. Some of his late wife's former colleagues were still there.

Given that individual's obsession with research,

if Lacus went there, she would truly be in danger.

He couldn't give that person a chance to harm his daughter.

As for him, he certainly wouldn't go either.

He was the Chairman—it would be madness to personally participate in a covert operation.

His safety wasn't just his own; it belonged to all of PLANT.

"Don't worry, I've sent many people. Even if Mendel is truly attacked, we'll be able to withdraw unscathed."

Siegel still offered an explanation.

After all, Fred couldn't afford to have anything go wrong.

This was clear to everyone, and when it came to covert operations, Siegel believed he was more experienced than Patrick.
