Month Six: February
Sera rolled over for the first time on a Tuesday afternoon.
Isla had laid her on the play mat—something she did during conference calls so Sera was occupied while Isla worked.
Mid-sentence with Catherine about supplier contracts, Isla watched Sera push up on her arms. Wobble. Then roll from her stomach to her back.
"Oh my God."
"Mrs. Archer? Is everything okay?"
"She rolled over. Sera just rolled over. Hold on—" Isla grabbed her phone. Started recording. "Do it again, baby. Show mama."
Sera, obliging, rolled over again. Then looked confused about how she'd ended up on her back.
Isla's eyes burned with tears. "Catherine, I need to call you back."
She hung up. Replayed the video. Watched her daughter's first major milestone.
And Killian wasn't here to see it.
He'd missed it. Would keep missing every first. First roll. First crawl. First steps. First words.
All of it. Six years of firsts he'd only see through videos and photos.
