Chapter 231 - Chapter 227: The Killing Begins

Although Dr. List's shrill, off-key scream was born purely from a coward's fear of death, it acted like a bucket of cold water, snapping the stressed-out Baron Strucker back to reality.

That's right, what was the point of shooting?

He had just blown this monster's head off with his own hands, and she had still been able to stand up as if nothing had happened.

Conventional weapons were simply useless against her!

Baron Strucker forced down the shock in his heart and coldly demanded: "What exactly are you? What is Pierce's purpose in sending you here?"

Makima let out a soft laugh, facing dozens of dark gun barrels.

She elegantly spread her arms, as if embracing everything before her, and even the entire HYDRA castle: "I am Makima, Baron Strucker, and I have come here to accept your submission."

But before the Baron could respond to this incredibly arrogant statement,

"Hands up! Don't move, or we'll shoot!"

Several HYDRA soldiers, their nerves stretched to the limit, could no longer bear the suffocating pressure. They plucked up the courage to shout sternly, hoping to use the volume to dispel the fear in their hearts regarding this eerie existence.

Even though the woman before them was unarmed, they could not suppress their inner fear of this eerie existence.

Hearing these noisy shouts, the smile on Makima's face vanished rapidly, replaced by an indifference that made one feel as if they had fallen into an ice cellar.

Since when do dogs speak before their Master?

Truly... uncouth.

Makima parted her thin lips slightly and calmly uttered a few words.

"Corpses are speaking."

As soon as she finished speaking, several crisscrossing, shrill flashes of cold light streaked through the air.

The few soldiers who were still shouting didn't notice. Upon hearing her words, they were all stunned, wondering what nonsense Makima was spouting.

How could corpses speak?

Just as they opened their mouths to shout something else, their vision suddenly blurred.

Their line of sight bizarrely rose, flying into mid-air.

Filled with confusion, they first saw the high vaulted ceiling of the castle, then saw Baron Strucker, who was backing away in terror not far off, and finally... they saw several headless bodies standing stiffly in place, maintaining the posture of aiming their guns.

Those were their own bodies.

Only then did they realize that their heads had already been severed while they were speaking.

Corpses are speaking...

This was the last sliver of consciousness that flashed through their minds.

"Pfft—!!"

From their severed necks, blood gushed out like a high-pressure fountain, splattering everywhere and instantly dyeing the entire hall red.

A few drops of warm blood splattered onto Makima's fair cheeks, yet she didn't even blink.

Just then, a tall, slender shadow appeared behind her, though no one knew when it had arrived.

The person was a woman with a cold temperament.

She had striking silver-white tied hair, wore a pitch-black eyepatch over her right eye, and a simple black tight-fitting vest that outlined her slender yet explosive physique. Her whole body exuded a casual yet lethal sense of oppression—it was none other than Quanxi.

Quanxi flicked her wrist, and the long sword in her hand traced a beautiful arc in the air, shedding all the blood droplets from the blade before she smoothly sheathed it. After sheathing the sword, she naturally extended her hand toward Makima's cheek.

It was unclear if those long, slender fingers were truly trying to wipe away the bloodstains or if there was some other intention.

However, before her fingertips could touch that shade of crimson, her wrist was firmly caught by Makima's raised hand.

"Not good, Quanxi-chan."

Makima turned her head, looking at her with a smile that wasn't quite a smile.

Caught in the act, Quanxi curled her lips in boredom, pretending nothing had happened, and lazily retracted her hand.

Baron Strucker's legs went soft from fear, and he nearly fell onto his butt.

He had seen that scene clearly.

The few HYDRA soldiers were still speaking when their heads flew into mid-air in unison, like fireworks at a celebration.

The female killer's cutting technique was so exquisite it was hair-raising, to the point that the headless corpses hadn't even fallen over yet, still standing stiffly in the surroundings, maintaining the posture of aiming their guns.

Surrounded by headless corpses, the corner of Makima's mouth still maintained that calm smile.

A spine-chilling, cult-like religious atmosphere arose spontaneously.

This eerie and terrifying scene scared Baron Strucker out of his wits.

What kind of bizarre ability was this?

"Someone, come quickly!" the Baron roared at the top of his lungs, his voice cracking.

Alarms echoed, and more HYDRA soldiers flooded into the hall, wielding heavy firepower.

Baron Strucker knew better than anyone.

Conventional weapons were useless against this red-haired monster, and sending his men over was pure suicide, but he didn't care. His only thought now was to use these grunts' lives to buy himself a glimmer of hope for escape!

How could he care about the blizzard sealing the mountain outside now? Even the fiercest storm was a hundred times better than staying near this monster-like woman!

A large number of soldiers surrounded the entire hall, packing it tightly. Taking advantage of the chaos, the Baron turned and sprinted toward the castle gate.

Makima raised an eyebrow slightly, just about to step forward in pursuit.

"Boom!"

A blinding blue energy beam struck suddenly.

The beam hit Makima precisely, and the terrifying high temperature instantly vaporized a small half of her body along with her shoulder and neck.

The mangled body fell backward weakly once more.

Beside her, Quanxi merely glanced at Makima's fallen corpse.

There was no ripple on her face. Her figure flickered like a ghost, and relying on her astonishing reaction speed, she narrowly avoided the second energy cannon shot that followed, as well as the bullets fired by the HYDRA soldiers.

With the heavy sound of tracks crushing the stone floor, a tank with its cannon barrel crudely modified into a Chitauri energy cannon slowly drove into the hall.

The dark muzzle locked onto Quanxi, who was dodging the hail of bullets, clearly intending to blast them into smithereens right there.

At this moment, List, caught in the middle of the crossfire, was already scared out of his wits.

Seeing Makima killed again by high-tech weaponry, he lay on the ground, hands covering his head, crawling outward frantically like a maggot, screaming like a slaughtered pig: "Don't shoot! I'm Dr. List! I'm on your side! Don't shoot!"

Having finally managed to scramble out of the encirclement using his hands and feet, List leaned against the wall, panting heavily, and roared furiously at the soldiers: "Blast those two women to smithereens! Now!"

After shouting, he immediately greased his feet and fled in a panic along another secret corridor.

However, in the chaos, whether it was the Baron who was only concerned with saving his own life, or the HYDRA soldiers who were in a complete mess, they seemed to have forgotten one person.

Aside from those ordinary HYDRA Agents who walked into this fortress with Makima, there was... another man.
