Most of the crew members of "brokeback mountain" attended this Academy Awards Ceremony, even Liv Tyler, who had just given birth to a son earlier this year, was dressed to the nines.
Charles sat with his mother, and not far away was the crew of "the aviator"; the front seats were always reserved for competitive crews and members.
Charles was not too happy when he saw Chris Rock as the host. This black man was not only sharp-tongued but also liked to mock people everywhere.
He was also the host of last year's VMA, mocking asian americans, and even black people. It's no wonder Will Smith would later slap him directly at the Academy Awards Ceremony.
"The Oscar is becoming more and more boring now, no wonder the ratings are falling," Charles mumbled, shaking his head.
Evelyn smiled and said, "So, the organizing committee now hopes to invite more stars and topics!"
The Academy Awards Ceremony was inherently a bit boring, which was also why Charles didn't particularly like to attend. Soon, it was time to present the Best Supporting actress award.
Michelle Williams of "brokeback mountain" lost to Cate Blanchett of "the aviator"; the Great Demon King was indeed the Great Demon King.
Charles watched his mother clap so vigorously beside him and started clapping along, muttering in his heart, "She's not even your artist?"
Next were some technical awards and guest performances, and Charles was ready to go backstage to rest.
"Where are you going? Are you coming back?" Evelyn knew her son too well; he might just run off.
"I'm going to the restroom, and then I'm going to have a drink!"
Charles then got up and left, going straight backstage through the corridor.
There was a bar backstage at the Kodak Theatre, and guests attending the awards ceremony could come for a drink. Charles didn't plan to return to his seat so early, so he came here.
"Hi, Charles, our Hollywood's genius filmmaker!" Harvey Weinstein and his new young girlfriend, Georgina Chapman, walked towards Charles.
"Good evening, Harvey, would you like a drink? It's on me!" Charles waved his hand. This arrogant attitude when talking to him... in terms of net worth, Charles now had assets exceeding 600 million US dollars.
"You go over there and rest for a bit," Harvey Weinstein said to the woman beside him, and then patted her butt.
Sitting side by side with Charles at the bar, after ordering two whiskies, Harvey Weinstein smiled and said, "Your 'brokeback mountain' is good, but there are also quite a few negative reports."
"Homosexual themes always attract protesters."
Charles glanced at the fat man next to him. If he guessed correctly, the negative reports about "brokeback mountain" probably had this guy's fingerprints on them.
"the aviator" was a mainstream American biographical film and very competitive, but the reputation of "brokeback mountain" was simply too high.
"the aviator" was also co-produced by Miramax and Warner Bros., and the Weinstein Brothers were both producers of the film.
Charles took a sip of his drink and smiled, "Winning awards isn't too important to me; my main focus is commercial films!"
Charles and Harvey Weinstein were not on the same path at all. To date, Miramax's most expensive film was "the aviator," with a production cost of 100 million US dollars. Previously, their big-budget films were "cold mountain" with a budget of 80 million US dollars and "gangs of new york" with a budget of 90 million US dollars!
Unfortunately, they all failed; commercial failures are irreparable.
Harvey Weinstein smiled, "Charles, you are still young, perhaps you don't quite understand the rules and system of Hollywood yet."
Harvey Weinstein was a little angry because the young man in front of him did not show him respect but talked to him as an equal.
Whether they were actors, directors, or young producers, they all showed awe and flattery in front of him.
Charles took another sip of his drink and smiled, "Hollywood rules? What else needs to be said about the rules in a commercial system!"
"Charles, your mother now has many actresses who need opportunities. I think we can cooperate in some areas," Harvey Weinstein's smile was a bit eerie, but what he said sounded very normal.
"Bob and I are preparing to leave Disney and will then set up our own independent film production and distribution company, and there will be many projects!"
"Then you can discuss casting with the Agents at ETA. My mother rarely pays attention to ordinary actresses below now," Charles said casually. Actresses indeed need opportunities.
"Charles, what I mean is, I need opportunities for private communication with some actresses, and some aspects require your mother's cooperation," Harvey Weinstein stated it bluntly.
Charles now understood. It was normal for actresses to use their bodies to gain opportunities, and Agents generally wouldn't interfere, even supporting it.
Evelyn Capet certainly wouldn't interfere with actresses in ETA doing that, but now Harvey Weinstein meant he needed his mother's cooperation?
To ask those actresses to accept his unspoken rules? With Evelyn Capet's current status, as Charles Cape's mother, does she need to do such a degrading thing?
Charles turned his head and looked at the fat man in front of him, anger already burning in his heart. Did a person who played independent films really think he was the boss?
"Harvey, are you drunk?" Charles's face wore a slight smile, but his tone was somewhat cold.
"A small Agent company, does my mother need to care about it?"
"A film project with a budget of several million to tens of millions of US dollars, I can even develop twenty or thirty projects a year without any financial pressure, and I don't even need to waste time raising funds;";
"Do you take me for a naive boy who just entered Hollywood or a foreigner who doesn't understand the Hollywood circle?"
Harvey Weinstein was stunned, staring into Charles's eyes. It seemed that Charles Cape himself was now a part of the capital.
"Haha, Charles, cooperation? Hollywood needs everyone to communicate to be better," Harvey Weinstein quickly put on a warm smile and patted Charles's shoulder to show closeness.
Charles also smiled and patted Harvey Weinstein's shoulder, then leaned down and whispered in his ear, "Don't cross the line with many things, otherwise I can take out one hundred or two hundred million US dollars in cash at any time and distribute it to various newspapers and magazines.";
"If my mother is unhappy, I will also be unhappy! Hollywood is a whole; what do you think Hollywood will do to someone who blackens Hollywood and damages the market?"
Charles left after speaking. He really didn't expect that this stray dog, who was about to be driven out by Disney, would dare to say such words in front of him? Although Charles didn't have deep feelings for his mother, Evelyn, Evelyn was genuinely good to her son, and Charles would also treat her well!
In America, never doubt the power of capital!
