Chapter 130 - Chapter 130: Golden cuple

In mid-January 2005, Hollywood's golden couple and model husband and wife, Brad Pitt and Jennifer Aniston, publicly announced their separation, initiating divorce proceedings.

Looking back to 2000, the marriage of Brad Pitt and Jennifer Aniston caused a sensation; he was Hollywood's Prince Charming, and she was America's National Princess.

Meanwhile, the 62nd American Golden Globe Awards were held at the Beverly Hills Hilton Hotel, where brokeback mountain triumphed over the aviator, million dollar baby, and Sideways, winning four major awards: best picture in the drama category, best director, best screenplay, and best original song, becoming the biggest winner.

Charles, who did not want to waste time at the Golden Globe Awards ceremony, specially hosted a celebration party at the Plaza Hotel on Wilshire Boulevard in Beverly Hills, not far from the Hilton Hotel.

"Congratulations to you all, though it's a bit regrettable that Heath Ledger and Jake Gyllenhaal didn't win any acting awards this time," Charles said, praising them while clinking glasses with Ang Lee.

Ang Lee nodded and said, "It is indeed a pity. Heath Ledger and Michelle Williams were nominated for Best Actor in a Drama and Best Supporting actress respectively, but they didn't take home the trophies!"

"Don't worry, the Oscar nominations will be announced soon. Perhaps there will be some gains at the Oscar, you never know," Charles himself actually very much hoped that brokeback mountain could win the Oscar for Best Picture.

This way, Capet Pictures would be a film company with an Oscar for Best Picture. In any case, this is a form of recognition!

Director Ang Lee's brokeback mountain can be said to have achieved both critical acclaim and box office success. Compared to the countless negative reviews and low box office of his previous film, hulk, brokeback mountain yielded completely opposite results.

The reception not only invited many media professionals and Hollywood celebrities but also included several Oscar judges among the guests.

A collector's edition DVD of brokeback mountain will also be given as a gift to the judges attending the reception. How to do public relations? It's about making sure the judges are impressed by the film and at least watch it thoroughly.

The more people know about it through publicity, and the more it's discussed in the market, the higher its popularity will be.

Charles walked around, chatting warmly and cordially with many people.

"Hi, Charles, good evening!" Brad Pitt was talking to his friend Brad Grey.

"Good evening!" Charles shook hands with Brad Pitt and then looked at Brad Grey, smiling, "Perhaps we will have more opportunities for cooperation in the future!"

It was no longer a secret that Viacom Group was replacing the current Paramount Group chairman, Sherry Lansing, with Brad Grey as the new head of Paramount, although it had not yet been officially announced.

However, Brad Grey has already begun reforming and operating Paramount Pictures.

"Charles I also very much hope to deepen cooperation with excellent filmmakers like you and Pitt," a beaming Brad Grey also said with a smile.

Brad Grey started as an Agent, and after becoming a manager, he produced excellent series like HBO's hit The Sopranos.

Then, he partnered with Brad Pitt and Jennifer Aniston to co-found Plan B Entertainment; however, he will withdraw from Plan B Entertainment now that he is taking over Paramount.

"Capet Pictures is currently just a small company and needs to cooperate with The Big Six that have complete overseas channels in many aspects!" Charles did not have many requirements for which of The Big Six to cooperate with, only that his own interests be maximized.

Brad Grey nodded and said, "Paramount's previous economic contraction policy has led to its market share becoming increasingly low, and I believe this situation will be broken very soon."

Sherry Lansing, who led Paramount for over a decade, indeed developed many good films in the early stages, but as film production costs became increasingly high, Sherry Lansing's conservative strategy of overly controlling film budgets caused Paramount to miss many opportunities.

Reducing film costs or seeking more collaborators to share risks led not only to a decline in film quality but also to a greater distribution of profits.

Charles nodded and asked, "I heard that Mr. Redstone is going to split Viacom Group and CBS Group?"

"After CBS Group and Viacom Group split and list independently, resources can be allocated and utilized more rationally, which is good for shareholders," Brad Grey also explained with a smile.

Sumner Redstone, who controlled Viacom Group through a small theater chain company, National Amusements, has been in the news in Hollywood for years due to lawsuits with his brothers, son, and other relatives over equity disputes.

Charles understood that the current split of CBS Group from Viacom Group was definitely because the television group was more profitable than other businesses.

After chatting with the two Brads for a while, Charles met Scarlett Johansson in the banquet hall. Although she was nominated for Best actress in a Drama Film, she still didn't win.

"What's wrong? Weren't you almost Best actress in a Drama for A Love Song for Bobby Long?" Charles asked the somewhat dejected Scarlett Johansson, putting his arm around the Lady and walking to a resting area in the banquet hall.

Scarlett Johansson took a sip of wine, then shook her head and said, "Far from it. Hilary Swank's performance was quite good; she deserved the award!"

This year's American Golden Globe Awards for Best Actor in a Drama went to Leonardo DiCaprio for the aviator; Best actress in a Drama went to Hilary Swank for million dollar baby.

"My dear, you know that both the Golden Globe Awards and the Oscar have prejudices against beautiful actresses, especially beautiful Young Ladies," Charles said, shrugging his shoulders and continuing,

"Besides some destructive performances, actresses also need to build up their seniority. You are still young, so there's no need to be so anxious!"

"I know, but I see a lot of guests here tonight, Charles, you're really invested in brokeback mountain's performance at the upcoming Oscar," Scarlett Johansson suddenly said with a smile.

"The Oscar for Best Picture, after all, needs to be fought for, doesn't it? And brokeback mountain has the capital and means to contend," after all, Oscar awards are always the foundation of a company, and films that win major Oscar awards are always easily remembered.

In the subsequent DVD and audio-visual market, television stations, or streaming media and other downstream industries, the Oscar is also a guarantee for gaining greater benefits.

Winning an Oscar award not only directly boosts fame but also directly concerns financial interests!
