Chapter 128 - Chapter 128: What to Care About

In the master bedroom of Nicole Kidman's mansion in the Brentwood community of Los Angeles, Charles was contentedly pressing down on the Lady.

Heavy breathing indicated his exertion, and Nicole Kidman, feeling weak all over, patted Charles's back and said feebly, "Get off me!"

Charles rolled over and lay beside the Lady, both staring at the bedroom ceiling.

"What does it feel like?" Nicole Kidman asked.

"Hmm? A bit tired, I guess."

"No, I mean, what does it feel like to conquer an oscar best actress winner?"

Charles suddenly understood. So that was it. He then replied, "A sense of satisfaction, quite a bit of spiritual vanity and satisfaction!"

"Heh, the screen goddess in the eyes of countless viewers being under you, it truly brings satisfaction," Nicole Kidman's words made Charles feel as if there was some philosophy to them.

"They don't know, Hollywood goddesses can be quite terrifying when they go wild," it was already past midnight, and Charles felt sleepy.

"Alright, let's sleep!" Nicole Kidman pulled the covers over both of them, then hugged Charles and closed her eyes.

The next day at noon, Nicole Kidman emerged from the covers, covered her mouth, and quickly ran into the bathroom.

Charles lay in bed, smiling. It took a long time to coax the high and mighty oscar best actress winner to eat breakfast—no, it should be lunch—in bed!

Soon after, Charles also went into the bathroom to shower. Nicole Kidman, lying in the bathtub, glanced at Charles showering under the spray and said grumpily, "You really are not polite at all to your goddess!"

"It's all fun, isn't it?" Charles said with a laugh while the hot water streamed down on him.

"Are you leaving now?" Nicole Kidman asked.

"I have to leave, but I really am a bit reluctant, sigh!"

"Don't even think about it. There won't be a next time. Don't expect me to do that with you again!"

"Hmm, hard to say. In Hollywood, you're like grass, and I'm the wind. Wherever the wind blows, the grass will bend, isn't that right?"

Nicole Kidman stared at Charles for a while after hearing that, finding him a bit arrogant, but she still felt a certain agreement deep down. It was truly because Charles's development was too fast, and his luck seemed too good.

"Do you still want me to be your mistress? I want to get married and start my own family now. My beauty won't last much longer," Nicole Kidman's intelligence lay in her clear-headedness.

After showering, Charles came to the edge of the bathtub, looked at Nicole Kidman who was soaking, and said with a smile, "In the future, if you encounter some difficult problems, you can let me help you once!"

"Hmm, what kind of difficult problems?" Nicole Kidman now had the title of oscar best actress winner, and she was famous in Hollywood and internationally, having also received the highest salary for a foreign actress in Hollywood. What kind of bad things could there be?

"Remember, Harvey Weinstein, all Hollywood actresses are familiar with him. If possible, maintain a normal distance from him!" Charles said, then wrapped himself in a towel and left the bathroom.

Nicole Kidman frowned. She, of course, knew who Harvey Weinstein was; several good films she had collaborated on before also had Miramax's involvement.

However, it didn't matter when she had the protection of being Tom Cruise's wife, but now she was an internationally renowned superstar, with many projects to choose from.

Although her works in the past two years had not met expectations, her strong popularity could still sustain her. She just needed to make good films again to maintain her status!

"Maintain distance from Harvey Weinstein?"

Nicole Kidman murmured, then got out of the bathtub.

At the villa entrance, Nicole Kidman asked Charles, who was standing beside her, "Aren't you having lunch?"

Charles shook his head, "I have to go back to the company!"

Nicole Kidman nodded, hugged Charles, and smiled, "What a wonderful night!"

Charles put his arm around the Lady's waist, leaned in, and they kissed. After they finished, Charles whispered in the Lady's ear, "Good thing I used breath freshener!"

Nicole Kidman understood immediately. Before she could say anything, Charles smiled and waved as he got into the car!

As Nicole Kidman expected, many newspapers published Mel Gibson's review of brokeback mountain that day: "A foolish movie, a film that goes against faith. This is a signal to fight for the rights of same-sex marriage."

However, director Ang Lee quickly faced reporters' interviews: "Love can transcend cultural and racial differences. When love arrives, there is no difference between heterosexual love and homosexual love."

Subsequently, large-scale articles denouncing actor Mel Gibson appeared in magazines such as Los Angeles Times, The Wall Street Journal, San Francisco Chronicle, and Vanity Fair.

Charles, who had returned to Capet Pictures, was also stopped by reporters asking for his opinion on the matter. Charles, of course, accepted the interview.

"Mel Gibson's view of brokeback mountain as a vanguard for same-sex marriage rights is completely wrong. This film is not a cry for gay rights, nor is it a conservative observation and analysis of homosexuality;"

"I am a producer, and for me, the bottom line of this film is just a love story;"

"brokeback mountain is neither a gay film nor a Western, let alone what some people call a 'gay Western,' because these labels precisely make some people ignore the film itself;"

"Because brokeback mountain is not a film about sex, but about love—that kind of love that is bound, separated, and hidden deep within the heart. The emotions expressed in the film are so complex and profound, deeply sensing the delicate, mysterious, and unknown love that occurs deep in the human heart, just like all previous excellent love films."

Charles said a lot. When he was about to go inside, another reporter asked, "Charles, what do you think of Mel Gibson's direct evaluation of this film?"

"What do I think?" Charles glanced at the reporter and then said, "I'm a man in my twenties; do I really need to argue with a fifty-year-old who's had too much to drink about these things?"

Then, with the help of security, Charles entered the company gate, leaving a group of reporters looking at each other, seemingly lost in thought.

After returning to the office, Phyllis Jones came in to report on work, "Boss, we've had many gossip newspapers hype it up. These next few days will become increasingly lively and intense. Mel Gibson has also helped us with advertising this time!"

"Heh, talking nonsense comes with a price," gossip newspapers like to fabricate stories, and what Mel Gibson said had already changed drastically by the time it reached them.

brokeback mountain needed buzz. It was best for supporters and opponents to clash, otherwise, how could more people be attracted to the cinema?
