They did not get far.
The moment Eclipse stepped beyond the threshold of the holding corridor, the air changed, tightening in a way that pressed against her skin like an unseen hand.
It was subtle, almost imperceptible, but to her Ashen Wolf it was unmistakable. A net had been cast long before she arrived in her mock mission of rescuing Rooster, and now it drew closed with quiet certainty.
The answering sound came a heartbeat later—low, layered howls that bled into one another as they closed in from every direction.
They were not frantic. Not wild. But coordinated like what would be expected from a pack of wolf guards.
An encirclement in the form of a well layered formation pressed on against the air… but Eclipse did not stop walking.
Behind her, Rooster staggered into step, breath uneven, her grip tightening around the single arrow she had claimed as though it were the last proof that she still existed.
