"!!!"
Dudley's words nearly made Snape lose control of his expression.
What had he just heard?
A spell that could restore a werewolf to human form?
How could such a spell exist?
The wizarding world officially recognized only one thing that could help werewolves: Wolfsbane Potion.
"Lockhart was a fraud, but the exploits in his books were real."
Dudley spoke slowly.
"You all remember, do you not? In Wanderings with Werewolves, he once recorded a story like this. He used a single spell to turn a werewolf back into human form and freed a village from the werewolf's attacks."
"I imagine many of you treated that story as something he invented. I thought so at first as well. In fact, the events behind his stories were real. He simply replaced the real hero with himself."
"The person who restored the werewolf was someone else."
A Hufflepuff student could not help saying, "You mean he stole someone else's achievements?"
"Stole? No. It was worse than that. He did not merely steal their experiences. He also erased their memories."
The students cried out in unison.
That was too vile.
Dudley had not yet told them what had happened to the wizards who had lost their memories. That was the truly tragic part.
"I found the village that had been harassed by the werewolf. I also found the old wizard. Unfortunately, by then, all that remained of him was a skeleton."
"But I found the notes he left behind."
"Based on those notes, I reconstructed that spell and improved it."
Ever since obtaining the notes during the holidays, Dudley had studied them whenever he had time. With the help of his data magic eye, Dudley had already gained a basic mastery of the spell and had made certain improvements to the original foundation.
"I call this spell the Homorphus Charm."
Dudley raised his wand, and the tip began to shine.
It was a light different from that of other spells.
Dudley turned his gaze toward the bound special werewolf, which was still struggling and refusing to give up.
According to the old wizard's explanation, if an ordinary werewolf transformation was a curse, then the special werewolf before them, born from two transformed werewolves on a full moon, had been struck by a doubled curse.
That was why he was in pure wolf form.
"Professor Snape, may I ask you to serve as my assistant?"
"It would be my honor."
Snape naturally did not want to miss this. First, he had seen a special werewolf born from two werewolves in wolf form. Now he had heard of a spell that could restore werewolves to human form.
This was the moment to witness a miracle.
If Dudley had truly reconstructed this spell, the entire wizarding world would be shaken.
It meant wizards would have another method for dealing with werewolves. It also meant that wizards who suffered discrimination because of their identity as werewolves might have their fates changed.
Inside the classroom, the students all held their breath and stretched their necks, afraid to miss a moment that might change history.
"Then... let us begin."
Dudley aimed his wand at the special werewolf.
Silver-green ribbons emerged from the tip of his wand. Like vines, they gradually extended. As the special werewolf struggled, they slowly crawled across its entire body.
"Roar!"
The special werewolf began struggling violently. The silver-green ribbons seemed to bring him tremendous pain.
Snape drew his wand and flicked it. The special werewolf's mouth, full of sharp teeth, seemed to be zipped shut, and he immediately fell silent.
Then Snape tapped his wand at the special werewolf several times. The creature became as stiff as if it had been hit by a Petrification spell, unable to move at all.
He controlled the special werewolf to keep it from interfering.
Dudley's spell had truly caught his interest.
When the silver-green ribbons wrapped around the special werewolf's entire body, wisps of black vapor began rising from him.
"There it is."
According to the old wizard's theory, that black vapor was the source of the werewolf curse.
The magic crystal on the side of Dudley's wand glowed faintly.
The silver-green ribbons formed the shape of a cocoon.
Dudley turned the wand in his hand.
The cocoon shattered, and the black vapor dispersed.
The students strained to keep their eyes open, afraid to miss a single detail. They were witnessing the birth of a brand-new spell.
One second.
Two seconds.
Ten seconds.
Just as their eyes began aching from staring too long, a miraculous scene occurred.
The special werewolf's long fangs gradually began shrinking until they withdrew behind his lips. His protruding mouth began flattening. His thick fur softened and shortened until it disappeared, revealing smooth skin beneath.
Finally, the wolf form completely receded, revealing a human body.
"It worked!"
The students cheered and looked at the special werewolf who had fully turned human.
Such a beautiful wolf would surely look good as a human too, right?
Then...
'How can a person be this ugly?'
The students were deeply disappointed. He had indeed turned into a human, but...
Lying on the ground was a person with a bowl-cut hairstyle, eyes set too far apart like a flounder's, a plump freckled face, a head narrow at the top and wide at the bottom like a gourd, and teeth so yellow and rotten that they were almost impressive. Most importantly, his lips looked as if two sausages were hanging from them at all times.
This could no longer be described with a simple "ugly."
He was aggressively ugly.
Most importantly, this thing was not wearing clothes.
"It can last one day at most."
Dudley shook his head with a trace of regret.
Even though Dudley had reconstructed and improved the Homorphus Charm, the spell's effect could only last one day. After one day, the transformed werewolf would return to wolf form.
"One day is enough."
Although Snape's face remained calm, his tone was full of praise.
"That is already enough. Preventing a werewolf from returning to wolf form is already remarkable by itself."
Completely solving the werewolf problem was unrealistic. Never mind Dudley. Even the four founders of Hogwarts had not had the ability to solve that problem.
Reconstructing the Homorphus Charm was already beyond what could be described with the simple word genius.
At that moment, the bell rang at exactly the right time.
"Today's homework: everyone will write an essay on how to identify and kill werewolves."
Snape ignored the fact that Dudley was technically the substitute teacher and assigned the Defense Against the Dark Arts homework himself.
Dudley merely shrugged to show that he did not care.
"Mr. Dursley, I believe you should come with me to the Headmaster's office."
Snape could hardly wait to take Dudley away.
The appearance of the Homorphus Charm would absolutely shock the entire wizarding world.
Before leaving, he pointed at the special werewolf lying naked on the ground and spoke with utter disdain.
"Also, bring that thing."
Before long, the door to the Headmaster's office was pushed open, and Snape strode in with Dudley hurrying after him.
"Dumbledore, I have something to tell you."
Dumbledore looked at the ugly, naked man behind them, and his eyes became extremely strange.
'Severus, you...'
