Ava's Pov:
Leon sat behind his desk, his laptop open, files scattered around like he had been going through them for hours even though we had only just gotten there.
I stood by the window at first, watching the city move like everything was normal, like people didn't have problems sitting quietly in the back of their minds waiting to explode.
I turned back to him.
"You're doing it again."
He didn't look up. "Doing what?"
"Overthinking."
"I'm not overthinking," he said quickly. "I'm checking."
"Checking what exactly?"
He finally looked at me. "Everything."
"That's not an answer."
"It is when everything feels off," he replied.
I walked closer to his desk and leaned against it, folding my arms.
"Leon," I said calmly, "you've checked the system three times already."
"And I'll check it again."
"For what?"
"For anything that proves she's involved."
I sighed.
"She just got back."
"And that's exactly why I don't trust it," he said. "The timing is wrong."
