The Morning After - Duke's Study
Draven sat at his desk, staring at duchy financial reports without actually reading them. His mind was elsewhere.
Last night with Elise. The breeding. Her request for a child.
In the heat of the moment, it had seemed perfect. Romantic even. But now, in the cold light of morning...
What the fuck were we thinking?
A knock at the door.
"Come in."
Elise entered. She looked different. Less confident than yesterday. Almost nervous.
"We need to talk," she said.
"I was thinking the same thing."
She closed the door. Locked it. Sat in the chair across from him.
For a moment, neither spoke.
"I got caught up yesterday," Elise said finally. "In the fantasy. In the idea of carrying your child. But this morning, I started actually thinking about it. Really thinking."
"And?"
"And it's insane." She laughed, but there was no humor in it. "Draven, if I get pregnant, everyone will ask who the father is. And the only man I'm ever around is you. My son."
