"What a pain!"
Hidan had thought it would be easy just to lead a group of ordinary people out.
Turns out, it wasn't easy at all.
First, the pitch-black environment caused huge problems. Second, when you have thousands of people moving together, anything can happen.
People tripped and fell, got separated from their families, screamed and cried loudly, or cursed venomously...
Hidan was utterly annoyed, yet he couldn't just abandon them and leave.
Reluctantly, he distributed the glowing fluorite crystals he carried with him.
He placed one every certain distance, so that the people at the back could still see some light from those ahead and wouldn't get lost.
If Shinji had been there, he would have been truly impressed!
Did his brain suddenly start working properly?
Although the idea sounded good, once he actually started doing it, he realized all sorts of flaws.
First of all, human nature is selfish. In total darkness, people instinctively gravitate toward any light source.
So everyone who was lucky enough to get a crystal instantly found themselves surrounded by a crowd.
Then people started thinking: Why should someone else hold onto something this important?
What if they lose it? What if they fall behind?
If I take it for myself, as long as I can see where I'm going, I can probably find my way out alone.
The moment this thought appeared, the atmosphere suddenly turned tense and dangerous.
Especially after the very first person snatched a crystal right out of a young girl's hand — conflict erupted instantly!
"What do you think you're doing?!" the girl cried out anxiously.
Others immediately protested too.
But the man just smiled coldly and said calmly: "Hmph. Would you all really feel safe letting something this valuable be held by a little girl?"
Many people fell silent. By now, they realized exactly what he was planning, and they instantly regretted it.
Because quite a few of them had thought of doing the exact same thing — they had just hesitated for a moment, and in that moment, lost their chance.
By the soft glow of the crystal in his hand, he saw the expressions on everyone's faces and felt confident.
"Since no one objects, I'll take responsibility for keeping this safe for everyone."
"How can you do this?!"
The girl saw that the people who were just speaking up for her had suddenly gone quiet. Her face showed disbelief and deep hurt.
She said angrily: "That thing was given to me personally by that strong man earlier! You just stole it! Let's see what happens later!"
The man panicked for a second, then forced himself to stay calm. "What can he do? Is he going to kill me? I bet he was hired to save us. Since he's getting paid, he has to do the job. Besides, as long as we have light, we can find the exit ourselves. We don't need him anymore."
Hearing this, many people thought it made sense. Even though they had been scared earlier, they really didn't believe Hidan would dare do anything to them.
The girl burst into tears, wronged and helpless. She was too weak to fight back and had no choice but to endure it.
And she wasn't the only victim. There were more people being robbed — some succeeded, some failed.
The main problem was that not everyone was willing to just swallow the injustice.
"You bastard! You stole my stuff! I'll kill you!"
A young man in his twenties, eyes bloodshot, charged and tackled the thief to the ground, gripping his throat tightly.
Everyone else scrambled and fought over the crystal that had fallen to the ground.
This small spark instantly ignited the powder keg. Chaos exploded everywhere!
"I'll fight you to the death!"
"Give it to me! Hand it over now!"
"I got it! I got it! Hahaha!"
"Follow me! I see the exit!"
...
All the fear, anxiety, resentment, and anger they had been suppressing this whole time — plus the instinct of the jungle: survival of the fittest — burst out all at once.
The crowd surged wildly toward any light. Some people even set their sights on the few remaining crystals Hidan was still holding.
Hidan was so angry he actually laughed.
I rarely try to be nice, and this is what I get in return?!
Swish!
Without hesitation, he gripped his Bloody March Scythe and swung it down!
The guy who had gathered the courage to try and rob him was sliced clean in half diagonally.
The others rushing forward froze instantly at the sight. It was as if a bucket of ice-cold water had been poured over their heads. They stopped dead in their tracks, eyes wide with terror.
How dare he?
How dare he kill people?!
Wasn't he here to rescue us?!
Save you my ass!
Shinji always told Hidan not to kill ordinary people — but only as long as no one attacked or provoked them first.
But once people messed with them... didn't matter who you were. You died.
Hidan followed that rule strictly.
"Everyone — stay exactly where you are! If anyone runs around holding a crystal after I count to three, I'll kill them first!"
Hidan wasn't joking. But the crowd was already out of control, and no one was listening.
"If you want to die so badly, don't blame me for sending you to Lord Jashin early."
Hidan grinned ferociously, swung his scythe, and knocked everyone nearby flying.
He then chased down the nearest light source and snatched it back.
"Whoever tries to take my things... brothers, kill them!"
Hidan's eyes flashed with cold killing intent. He swept his blade horizontally and cut them all in half at the waist!
Once blood was shed, his rationality plummeted instantly. And these people just kept pushing his limits.
"Murderer!"
"Run away! It's a monster!"
"Get out of my way! Move!"
When someone screamed that a monster was attacking them, the already chaotic scene fell into total anarchy.
Some people, panicked and running blindly, actually fled back toward the dangerous depths they had just come from.
Crystals were shattered and smashed to pieces in the struggle for light.
Several times, Hidan nearly lost control and wanted to slaughter every single person here.
But the thought of that bastard Shinji made him forcefully suppress his rage.
Just then, a young boy — about eleven or twelve years old, seemingly separated from his family — ran in panic and bumped right into Hidan's leg.
"Get lost! If you don't want to die, find a corner and hide there quietly!"
His tone was harsh, but it was actually good advice.
Who knew how many people had already been trampled to death in this chaos.
The boy nodded quickly.
Then, the moment Hidan turned his attention away... the boy's expression suddenly turned dark and sinister.
Dark Curse Art: Sever!
Hidan's face twisted in utter shock.
Then, his head rolled smoothly off his shoulders and fell to the ground.
His body collapsed like a pile of blocks and crumbled apart.
