"When disciples raise their weapons against one another, the master hath already lost something more precious than victory."
— Ancient Heavenly Proverb
Kaito's fingers twitched.
It was barely noticeable.
A single movement.
Yet the Fire God's stance tightened instantly, flames coiling around his forearms as he shifted his weight forward. Across from him, the Water God raised two fingers without changing his calm expression. Around him, dozens of translucent water blades materialized soundlessly, each one hovering with deadly precision, their sharpened edges pointing directly toward the kneeling Sun God.
Neither of them intended to hesitate again.
Fire pushed off the ground.
At the very same instant, Water's fingers moved.
A burning fist and a storm of crystalline blades surged toward Kaito from opposite directions.
The attack never reached him.
A single finger rested between them.
No explosion followed.
No clash echoed.
It simply...
Stopped.
The Fire God's fist remained suspended less than an inch away from the finger. The flames around his arm still danced violently, but they no longer advanced. Every ounce of strength in his body strained forward, veins surfacing across his arm, yet it felt as though he had struck an immovable mountain.
The countless water blades froze in midair.
Not shattered.
Not dissolved.
Frozen.
Even the flowing rivers surrounding the Water Domain ceased their movement for a heartbeat.
Silence swallowed the battlefield.
Fire's eyes widened.
"...Impossible."
The Water God's calm gaze finally shifted away from Kaito and settled upon the lone figure standing between them.
A loose white robe fluttered gently despite the complete absence of wind.
Long silver hair fell neatly over one shoulder.
A bronze monocle rested upon one eye, its countless mechanical gears rotating with soft metallic clicks.
In one hand rested a slender clockwork staff.
The other hand...
Still held out a single finger.
Knowledge let out a slow sigh before lowering his hand as casually as though he had merely interrupted children arguing over toys.
The pressure vanished instantly.
Fire stumbled back two steps.
The suspended water blades collapsed into harmless droplets that splashed quietly onto the ground.
Knowledge adjusted his monocle with a relaxed smile.
"My, my... what a troublesome gathering."
Neither Fire nor Water spoke.
Kaito slowly lifted his head.
His golden eyes narrowed before softening ever so slightly.
"...Master."
Knowledge looked toward him and chuckled.
"Thou lookest dreadful."
Kaito managed a weak smile despite the blood running down the side of his face.
"I've... had better days."
"I can plainly perceive that."
Knowledge glanced around the battlefield before scratching the back of his head.
"Forsooth... I depart but for a little while, and mine pupils seeketh to dismantle all of Heaven. Must I truly supervise thee at every waking hour?"
Fire finally stepped forward, flames rolling around his body once more.
"This doesn't concern you."
Knowledge tilted his head.
"Oh?"
Fire pointed toward Kaito.
"He came here demanding obedience."
"He challenged us."
"He lost."
"So step aside."
Knowledge smiled.
The smile never reached his eyes.
"Nay."
The single word echoed across both domains.
Fire frowned.
"What did you say?"
Knowledge planted his staff lightly upon the ground.
"I said... nay."
His voice remained calm.
Almost gentle.
Yet the atmosphere itself seemed to grow heavier.
"Thou hast every right to reject another's command."
"Thou hast every right to defend thine own convictions."
"But..."
His expression lost its warmth.
"...thou hast no right to strike down a fellow god whilst Heaven yet draweth breath."
Fire instinctively took half a step backward.
Even Water remained completely still.
Knowledge continued as though lecturing students beneath a tree rather than standing between three gods.
"Hast thou forgotten thy lessons so swiftly?"
"The enemy lieth beyond these skies."
"Yet here stand ye, eager to spill kindred blood before the true battle hath even begun."
Water finally spoke, his voice as calm as the rivers surrounding him.
"Heaven has already failed."
"The King abandoned it."
"The Pantheon shattered."
"No one rules."
Knowledge nodded thoughtfully.
"A fair observation."
Fire folded his arms.
"Then you agree."
"I agree only that thou hast observed the wound."
Knowledge's smile returned.
"I did not say thou understoodest its cause."
Silence.
The Fire God clicked his tongue.
"We don't need Heaven anymore."
"We built our own future."
"The other gods agree."
Knowledge slowly turned his head.
"Oh?"
"The Earth God."
"The Wind Goddess."
"The Metal God."
"The Forest Goddess."
"They all stand with us."
"Heaven has no king worth following."
Kaito lowered his gaze.
The words struck deeper than any blow.
Knowledge noticed.
He always noticed.
The old god walked toward Kaito before extending a hand.
"Up."
Kaito hesitated.
Knowledge smiled lazily.
"I did not request it."
"I instructed it."
Despite every injury screaming through his body, Kaito grabbed his master's hand.
Knowledge lifted him effortlessly.
"Better."
He dusted off Kaito's shoulder as though cleaning dirt from an old book.
"Still alive."
"A satisfactory beginning."
Fire's patience finally snapped.
"This conversation is over."
Flames erupted around him once more.
"If you intend to protect him..."
"I'll defeat both of you."
Knowledge didn't even turn around.
"Oh, child..."
He sighed dramatically.
"...thy confidence doth vastly exceed thy present abilities."
Fire exploded forward.
His movements were faster than before, each step leaving molten footprints across the crimson earth. His flaming fist cut through the air with terrifying speed.
Knowledge casually raised his staff.
Tap.
That was all.
The staff touched Fire's forehead lightly.
Nothing more.
Fire's entire charge disappeared.
The momentum vanished as though erased from existence itself.
He blinked in confusion before realizing he could no longer move.
Not a single muscle obeyed him.
Knowledge looked at him with genuine curiosity.
"Didst thou truly believe..."
"...that I trained thy generation merely to become weaker than it?"
Fire's pupils shrank.
Cold sweat rolled down his temple despite the inferno surrounding him.
Knowledge turned toward Water.
"And thou?"
Water silently crafted two elegant water spears.
Knowledge smiled.
"I would advise against that."
Water ignored him.
The spears shot forward.
Knowledge simply looked at them.
Both weapons dissolved into ordinary rain before reaching him.
The droplets landed harmlessly upon the ground.
Knowledge chuckled.
"Much improved."
"Still insufficient."
Water finally lowered his hands.
"...I understand."
Knowledge nodded approvingly.
"A wise decision."
He then looked toward every horizon surrounding the twin domains.
His voice carried effortlessly across Heaven itself.
"Hearken unto me, all ye gods who dwell beneath these celestial skies!"
The heavens fell silent.
Even the wind stopped.
Knowledge planted his staff firmly into the earth.
"The peace of Heaven hath perished."
"The bonds betwixt brethren lie broken."
"The throne standeth empty."
"Thus there remaineth but one path."
His bronze monocle glowed brightly.
"I, Knowledge, Guardian of Wisdom and Master unto the Pantheon, do hereby proclaim..."
His voice thundered across every realm.
"...that two days hence..."
"...Heaven shall enter Civil War."
The declaration echoed endlessly.
Every mountain.
Every ocean.
Every floating island.
Every god heard it.
Knowledge closed his eyes for a brief moment before speaking one final sentence.
"Spend these final days wisely."
"For upon the third sunrise..."
"...the heavens themselves shall judge thee."
The silence that followed felt heavier than destiny itself
Here's Part 2 in the same style and format.
The declaration spread through Heaven like a storm.
No god ignored it.
No realm remained untouched.
For the first time since the creation of the Heavenly Order, every deity understood that the enemy was no longer beyond the gates of Heaven.
It stood within them.
The Fire God returned to his domain without another word. The moment he crossed the crimson boundary, messengers forged from living flames scattered across the skies.
"The Civil War begins in two days."
The words were enough.
The Earth God arrived first. Towering and broad-shouldered, every step he took shook the mountains beneath his feet. Stone armor covered his body, and moss grew across his shoulders as though he had stood since the birth of the world itself.
"I heard."
The Fire God folded his arms.
"Then you know my answer."
Earth nodded once.
"The throne has become meaningless."
From the western winds descended the Wind Goddess. She landed gracefully upon a pillar of air, her silver hair dancing endlessly around her.
"Heaven requires change."
"It does."
Fire looked toward her.
"Then stand with us."
She smiled.
"I already chose."
One after another, gods began arriving at the twin domains.
Some came seeking justice.
Others sought power.
A few merely wished to survive.
Regardless of their reasons...
Heaven was dividing.
Far away from the growing alliance, Knowledge walked quietly through an abandoned valley surrounded by floating cliffs.
Kaito followed behind him.
Neither spoke for several minutes.
Finally, Knowledge stopped before a calm lake whose surface reflected the stars despite the daylight above.
Without looking back, he spoke calmly.
"Sit."
Kaito obeyed.
Knowledge leaned lightly upon his clockwork staff.
"Tell me, child..."
"...why didst thou lose?"
Kaito remained silent.
Knowledge waited.
"I underestimated them."
Knowledge smiled faintly.
"Nay."
"I lost control."
"Nay."
Kaito frowned.
"They were stronger."
Knowledge slowly shook his head.
"Nay."
Silence returned.
Knowledge finally looked toward him.
"Thou lost because thou wert fighting to reclaim thy title."
He gently tapped the surface of the lake with his staff.
Small ripples spread across the perfectly still water.
"They fought to protect their convictions."
"Thou fought to protect thine pride."
Kaito lowered his head.
Knowledge continued softly.
"The difference is immeasurable."
The words struck harder than any punch Fire had landed.
Knowledge walked around the lake before stopping beside a weathered stone pillar.
"Lift thy spear."
Golden light gathered inside Kaito's hand, forming his familiar spear.
Knowledge smiled.
"Strike me."
Kaito hesitated.
"I cannot."
Knowledge sighed dramatically.
"Must I repeat every instruction twice?"
"I said..."
"...strike."
Kaito inhaled deeply before lunging forward.
The spear flashed with blinding speed.
Knowledge stepped aside effortlessly.
The spear missed.
Again.
Again.
Again.
Each attack became faster.
Sharper.
More desperate.
Knowledge never blocked.
He simply wasn't where the attack landed.
Minutes turned into hours.
Sweat covered Kaito's face.
His breathing grew heavy.
Knowledge had not moved more than a few steps.
Finally...
Kaito collapsed onto one knee.
Knowledge looked down at him.
"Again."
Kaito forced himself upward.
The training continued until sunset.
Then through the night.
Then into the following morning.
Knowledge never attacked.
He only corrected.
Each mistake.
Each hesitation.
Each wasted movement.
Every lesson was carved into Kaito through repetition rather than mercy.
By the end of the second day, Kaito's arms trembled from exhaustion.
Knowledge finally nodded.
"Better."
"Still disappointing..."
"...but better."
For the first time in two days...
Kaito laughed.
Knowledge smiled.
"There. That sound suiteth thee far better than anger."
A familiar voice interrupted them.
"I was wondering where you disappeared."
Kaito froze.
Slowly...
He turned around.
Standing several meters away, wearing his long coat and sheriff's hat, was Daniel.
The Moon God smiled awkwardly before scratching the back of his neck.
"Been a while."
For several seconds...
Neither of them moved.
Neither knew what to say.
Daniel finally broke the silence.
"I heard you got yourself beaten up."
Kaito couldn't help smiling.
"I did."
"You look terrible."
"So do you."
Daniel laughed.
"I missed insults like that."
The tension melted.
Kaito walked toward him before stopping just an arm's length away.
"...I blamed you."
Daniel nodded.
"I know."
"I said things I shouldn't have."
"I know."
"I thought..."
Kaito struggled to finish the sentence.
"...that you abandoned us."
Daniel looked toward the distant sky.
"I thought the same about you."
Silence.
Not an uncomfortable silence.
One that carried understanding.
Daniel looked back at him.
"We were both angry."
"We were."
"We were both hurting."
"...We were."
Daniel smiled.
"So..."
"...friends again?"
Kaito stared at him for a moment.
Then he laughed.
A genuine laugh.
He extended his fist.
Daniel bumped it with his own.
"Best friends."
Knowledge watched the scene quietly from a distance.
A satisfied smile crossed his face.
"'Tis pleasing..."
"...to behold that wisdom hath finally reached thee, though by an unnecessarily winding path."
Daniel chuckled.
"Still talks like that?"
Kaito sighed.
"Every single day."
Knowledge pretended to look offended.
"I possess excellent taste in speech."
Before another word could be spoken...
The bronze gears within Knowledge's monocle began spinning rapidly.
His smile disappeared.
He slowly turned toward the northern horizon.
His expression became unreadable.
"They have begun."
Kaito immediately stood.
"What happened?"
Knowledge tightened his grip around the clockwork staff.
"The banners move."
Daniel's expression hardened.
"So..."
"...it's time."
Knowledge nodded once.
"'Tis no longer preparation."
"'Tis war."
Far beyond the valley, horns echoed across Heaven.
Massive banners bearing the symbols of flame, water, stone, and wind rose into the skies.
Countless soldiers marched beneath them.
The earth trembled beneath thousands of synchronized footsteps.
On the opposite side of Heaven, those who still believed in the old order gathered beneath Knowledge's command.
The silence before the storm had ended.
Knowledge raised his staff toward the heavens.
"Come."
"There remaineth no further lesson to teach."
"The battlefield shall instruct thee henceforth."
Kaito looked toward Daniel.
Daniel adjusted his hat.
Neither needed words anymore.
Side by side, the Sun and the Moon stepped forward once again.
And for the first time in Heaven's history...
Brother prepared to wage war against brother.
The Civil War had begun.
