July 14th.
It was a bright and beautiful Wednesday.
The morning sun was light and warming.
Birds sang in trees and the chatter of children were everywhere.
Kelechi,who was just dropped off by his mother some minutes ago was chatting with his classmates as their teacher was yet to arrive.
"Everyone quiet! She's coming!" Thomas a bright chubby boy and the class honourable lookout said from the doorway as he hurriedly moved his chubby legs to his seat.
Everyone immediately started scurried back to their respective seats making a bit of noise as the moved.
Some minutes later their teacher entered the classroom. It was very quiet. Suspeciously so.
She placed her books on the table in front of the class.
"Class compliment!!" Emeka the class prefect shouted banging his table three times.
"Good morning Miss Rejoice. Welcome to our class,may a God bless you!!" All the children got up at once and shouted in unision.
"Good morning everyone and thank you. You can all sit down now." Miss Rejoice said with her signature warm smile as she gestured for everyone to sit down.
Miss Rejoice is a beautiful young woman with a slim figure that was complimented with a lovely braided natural black hair,brown eyes and dark-skin.
She was a natural beauty true and true with some of the male teachers constantly talking to her or trying to.
Not that any 6 year old would be concerned about that.
The class started without a hitch. Morning lessons were a volatile something, sometimes good sometimes bad.
"Edward! Yes you. Stand up and answer this question." Mrs Rejoice said pointing at a fair-skinned boy with light brown hair and light brown eyes.
The first scape goat of the day have been delivered.
Some felt pity but mainly greatful for his great sacrifice.
"I-I don't know." Edward replied in a small voice,head lowered.
"Remain standing." Mrs Rejoice said then started looking around for those that were paying attention.
Oh no!
The offenders immediately began using various methods to hide by show varying levels of seriousness on the subject at hand.
"Thomas." She called out pointing at the chubby innocent looking boy from earlier.
Thomas face immediately fell downcast,he felt abandoned by the world.
Some of the smart ones in class were already raising their hands to answer.
The overdors,Henry a boy in medicated glasses and a cute serious expression on his face and Mary a petite slim girl in neat all back(natural hair) were raising their hands so high one would think they wanted to touch the sky.
Kelechi knew the answer but choose not to interfere or try to attract attention to himself.
A few more minutes later and several students were already standing before Mrs Rejoice finally had enough and picked Mary to answer.
Mary jumped up in joy and Henry lowered his hand in disappointment.
Kelechi nearly laughed at their antics.
Mary calmly yet with undeniable happiness answered the question which was a simple addition concerning three different numbers.
"That's correct. Everybody clap for her." Mrs Rejoice said with a smile.
*Clap.clap,clap.
Mary sat back down,face full of unconcealed happiness. She shot a smug look towards Henry who just scoffed and turned his face away after clapping.
Kelechi seriously wanted to laugh but held himself back.
Soon it was break time in the early afternoon and all the children were in their physical education (P.E) clothes as today was Wednesday day a nationally acclaimed sports day.
Kelechi stood at the side laughing and talking with his friends when all of a sudden they noticed a commotion at a part of the field.
He and his friends got curious and went to check it out.
Lo and behold it was a heated argument between two girls one was his classmate and a friend of his Samantha a dark-skinned girl with a fierce temper but only when offended.
The other was a girl he hadn't seen before who had a similar build and height to Samantha but different facial features and hairstyles and also skin colour.
The girl pushed Samantha backwards first making her stumble but being stronger Samantha pushed her back harder making the girl fall back on her butt.
The girl immediately started tearing up on shouted some words to Samantha before running away crying. Her friends immediately followed her.
Kelechi came closer and found out what happened from Samantha and her two other friends.
A few minutes ago the girl approached Samantha and asked her to give her her plastic hand fan as the weather was hot and Samantha was the only person currently with a fan. But she asked quite rudely and due to Samantha not liking her attitude and her still making use of the fan,she politely refused.
Obviously the girl got angry and tried snatching it and that lead to the current situation.
When they thought everything was over they immediately hear the sound of rapidly approaching footsteps and looking at the direction it was coming from to see the the girl had brought reinforcements.
The P.E teacher was currently unavailable,that is he was having a conversation with the other teacher at a far corner of the field and didn't notice the commotion.
The small girl brought her brother who was in a higher class than the and came with a few friends.
The boy was bigger than them with a average yet mean face due to the unhidden anger on it with black hair and eyes but similar facial features with the girl currently crying by his side.
His friends were of similar builds and calm faces.
He immediately walked up to them not asking what happened but demanding that they hand over the fan.
Samantha and her friends were afraid but being who she was she loudly refused.
The boy's face became even more angry and even raised his hand to attack her.
Kelechi knew that it was a stupid move but was tired of watching this injustice,so he told one of his friends who was known for being fast to go call the teacher while he went to delay the boy.
