Chapter 75 - Debriefing the Impossible

THE MORNING AFTER THE THRESHOLD

I woke up in the medical wing to three immediate problems.

First: my ribs hurt.

Second: someone had put six blankets on me like I was a fragile diplomatic pastry.

Third: I could not remember the word for *window* for a full five seconds, and that was long enough to make every muscle in my body go cold.

I sat up too fast.

Bad choice.

Pain lit through my side, and the room tilted.

A healer at the far table looked up instantly. "Lie back down."

"I'm fine."

"You are absolutely not fine. You have three cracked ribs, narrative strain, exhaustion collapse, and mild identity drag."

I froze. "Mild what?"

The healer pointed at a chart like this was all perfectly normal. "Identity drag. Residual threshold contact. Temporary word-loss, delayed memory retrieval, emotional dislocation, intermittent sensory mismatch. We're monitoring."

That was not reassuring in any language.

"Where are Sera and Mira?"
