Chapter 48 - Chapter 48 - The name He cannot lose

The training ground inside Red Moon Pack territory was empty.

Night had already fallen.

Hazel stood alone under the artificial moonlight lamps installed across the modern training field.

She was practicing control.

Nick had told her:

"Your power does not respond to panic. It responds to calm dominance."

So Hazel was breathing slowly.

In.

Out.

In.

Out.

Then—

A sudden crackling sound echoed from the eastern edge of the training ground.

Hazel turned immediately.

Hunters.

Five of them.

But something was wrong.

Their eyes were blank.

Like puppets.

Controlled.

Hazel's heartbeat quickened slightly.

Not fear.

Alertness.

One hunter spoke in a mechanical, distorted voice.

"Blood Alpha heir."

Hazel's claws extended slowly.

"Leave territory," she said coldly.

The hunters moved simultaneously.

Too fast.

Too coordinated.

Magic.

Devourer influence.

Hazel dodged the first attack but felt a sharp burn across her shoulder.

Not deep.

But enough to hurt.

Inside the mansion—

Ryan's eyes snapped open.

Venom surged violently.

Ralph growled.

Blade sharpened.

Hazel's scent changed.

Blood.

Danger.

Ryan disappeared from the mansion balcony in a blur of movement.

Back at the training ground—

Two hunters grabbed Hazel's arms.

She struggled.

Not panicking.

But calculating.

The third hunter raised a weapon glowing with dark energy.

"Kill heir."

Before the strike landed—

A terrifying pressure exploded across the field.

Dark fire aura.

Demonic wolf presence.

Ryan arrived.

His eyes were darker than night.

Not controlled calm.

Not political Alpha presence.

Something more dangerous.

Venom was unstable.

Not fully released.

But close.

Very close.

The hunters froze.

Ryan spoke one word.

"Leave."

The word carried killing intent.

The hunters did not move.

One attacked Ryan.

Bad decision.

Ryan grabbed the hunter's neck mid-air.

Crack.

Not loud.

But decisive.

The body dropped.

The remaining hunters tried to retreat.

Too late.

Ryan's aura exploded slightly.

Dark demon flame energy surged across the field.

Not random destruction.

Controlled rage.

But Venom was whispering.

Destroy.

Protect.

Claim.

Hazel watched silently.

Ryan walked slowly toward her.

Not touching.

Not speaking immediately.

He stopped one step away.

His breathing was slightly heavier than usual.

"Are you hurt?" he asked quietly.

"Yes," Hazel said.

"Where?"

"Shoulder."

Ryan looked at the small wound.

Then his hand moved — very slowly — as if asking permission.

Hazel did not step away.

Ryan's fingers touched the injury gently.

Dark energy flowed briefly.

Healing.

Hazel felt warmth.

Not pain.

Silence.

Then Ryan spoke quietly.

"You are important to me."

The words were not loud.

But they carried weight.

Hazel's chest tightened.

Ryan added very softly:

"I almost lost control when I felt your blood."

Hazel's fingers moved slightly.

Then she said quietly:

"I am not fragile."

Ryan answered:

"I know."

Pause.

Then he said the dangerous word again.

"Mate."

Hazel did not reject it.

Not tonight.

The wind moved softly across the modern pack training field.

And somewhere far away—

The Devourer watched silently.

Because emotional attachment was the best weakness.
