Madam Su didn't look back. Through the spiderweb cracks blooming across her windshield, her wild, bloodshot eyes caught only a fractured glimpse of a dark charcoal suit spinning through the air before her panicked mind completely took over.
Her hands, slick with cold sweat, violently yanked the steering wheel to the right. She slammed her foot down on the accelerator, forcing the damaged sedan to jump over the stone curb, grinding heavily against the brick wall of an adjacent courtyard before it blasted out of the narrow alleyway with a deafening screech of rubber, leaving behind a jagged trail of black tire tracks and shattered fiberglass.
"Ying'er! Ying'er!"
Old Master Su's voice cracked into a raw, ragged scream that he hadn't uttered in decades. Completely ignoring his own deeply bruised limbs and the sharp pain in his hip, the aging patriarch scrambled frantically out of the recessed stone alcove of the restaurant's wooden doorway.
