She'd groggily opened her eyes in the early morning but had quickly fallen back asleep. By the time Chu Yao was fully awake, it was already noon.
She stirred, then suddenly froze.
Something heavy was pressing down on her waist, and she felt an unfamiliar warmth at her back.
Alarm bells instantly went off in Chu Yao's head.
'There's someone here!'
'Someone's in my bed!'
The thought flashed through her mind, but the alarm faded just as quickly. Chu Yao shifted slightly without turning all the way around, so she couldn't see the person beside her.
But she was already at ease. She recognized a faint, fresh scent.
It was Lu Xize's scent.
At the same time, a voice came from behind her. "You're awake?"
It was a familiar male voice. A little hoarse, perhaps, but she would recognize the voice of the person she knew so well no matter what.
Chu Yao rolled over and, sure enough, found herself looking into Lu Xize's dark eyes.
She smiled. "Yeah, I'm awake. What are you doing here?"
