Lu Xize left the hospital and went straight back to the villa. There was a car accident up ahead on the ring road, causing traffic to slow to a crawl, so the trip back took much longer than the drive there.
When he got back to the villa, the living room lights were still on, but no one was there. The script Chu Yao had been reading earlier was on the coffee table.
Lu Xize looked around and confirmed Chu Yao wasn't on the first floor. Only then did he turn off the lights and go upstairs. He opened the bedroom door and froze—no one was on the bed, either. There was no sound of running water from the bathroom, and the light was off.
'Did Chu Yao go out this late at night?'
Lu Xize frowned. He turned his head and noticed a faint light coming from the study. He gently pushed the door open and saw that the floor lamp next to the hanging basket chair was on. The light wasn't bright, just a warm yellow glow that created a cozy feeling.
