Lu Xize had just placed the peeled egg into Chu Yao's bowl when her words made him pause.
He glanced at Chu Yao, a hint of awkwardness in his eyes.
Chu Yao had told him she wasn't used to sleeping with other people, but he had broken that habit last night. Lu Xize had originally planned to get up and slip out quietly before she woke up, but he ended up oversleeping.
'So, is she here to make me pay for it now?'
Of course, Lu Xize wasn't afraid of Chu Yao being unhappy or angry. He just couldn't bear to disrupt her habits. He could wait, slowly, for her to change on her own terms, rather than barging into her life and forcing her to adapt.
He couldn't bear it; he didn't want Chu Yao to feel the slightest bit of discomfort.
After a moment of silence, Lu Xize said calmly, "Mm, maybe." Chu Yao nearly choked on a bite of her egg. 'I was just joking, and this guy actually replies so seriously with a "maybe"?'
Chu Yao rolled her eyes internally. 'Dude, sleepwalking? My ass.'
