Like the first spring breeze at winter's end, her faint breaths brushed against his skin in the darkness, making Aaron Xavier freeze completely.
Goosebumps prickled his skin, and he desperately wanted to shove Zoe Pierce away and leap aside.
But she was clinging to him tightly, murmuring something unintelligible that made his mouth go dry.
"Zoe!" he called out nervously. "Zoe, what's wrong with you?"
In just a few moments, the situation had completely reversed.
He reached out and touched Zoe's neck. Her skin was scorching, far hotter than normal. Her whole body felt like a fireball, and beads of sweat were already glistening on her neck and in her hair.
Aaron Xavier kept calling Zoe's name, but she gave no response.
Her body temperature was dangerously high, and her spiritual power was just as erratic. Her defensive spiritual power was flickering on and off.
'We have to get out of here.'
Aaron glanced around, only to feel a pair of soft, pliant arms coil around his neck.
