Duke Des realized he had taught his daughter to be far too naive and self-righteous, and he knew this couldn't go on.
It was incredibly frustrating. He was a noble, a Duke authorized by the Imperial Family, yet she wanted to slap the Imperial Family in the face and saw absolutely nothing wrong with it. While he was still around, he could prop up the Dais Family and shoulder the burden for Mei Lin. But what if he was gone? You never knew which would come first: tomorrow or a deadly accident.
Given the current turbulent political climate, even sitting in his position, Duke Des didn't dare guarantee that every day would be safe. If he were gone, even if Mei Lin couldn't maintain the Dais Family's current glory, she still needed to be able to stand on her own two feet, know how to handle affairs, and understand where her loyalties lay. She couldn't just keep up this facade of absolute righteousness.
