Aunt Lai looked up. In the past, she would have started picking something out, but today she really wasn't in the mood.
"You're getting older now. Do you really want to keep living like this forever?"
Lai San chuckled. "Aunt, isn't this life pretty good? No taxes, no military service. We might not have a permanent home, but at least we don't have to worry about much.
Aunt, I know what you're going to say, but I think this is fine. I only have to worry about feeding myself. Even if you helped me find a wife, I have no way to provide for her."
After speaking, he grinned at his cousins behind her. "If any of my dear cousins have a wedding, I can still chip in for a gift."
That was the most he could offer, and even then, the gift would be a small one.
"Stop grinning like a fool. Your younger cousin told you about that government notice last time. Now I'm asking you, what do you think about it?"
